I agree, scalpers are only a problem if there are enough idiots to purchase the product at inflated pricing.
I don't really blame the people trying to make a buck.
I would agree with you if they (the scalpers and the cook groups they belong to) did not have an extremely unfair advantage over your average consumer or even most of your fairly savvy consumer and were not literally violating the TOS, Guidlines and Rules of the sites/platforms they're using to obtain these goods while everyone else is stuck playing by the rules.. You see, in the scalping world, especially prevalent on "Cook group" discord servers, basically massive groups of scalpers, expert scalpers, and newbie - novice scalpers. In these Discord Server Cook Groups, a few of the more experienced users/experts in the group set up the server and charge the rest of the members a monthly fee to be a part of the cook group as well as set up "affiliations" with other groups as well as "software" creation groups who's sole purpose is to create bots (software groups) that will scour every single online site that sells a particular item most scalpers would be interested in purchasing at MSRP to sell at an increased premium to the average consumer. Obviously their goal is to make the most effective and easy to use "software" as to be the most attractive piece of tech around for the time making it extremely valuable. The CGs (cook groups) partner with these other groups hoping to get a chance to purchase a license key to use one of these bots since only a limited number of license keys are given out for each particular bot. This seems like an attempt to curb too many scalpers scalping with bots at once so that the people using the software will actually land hits and successful check-outs of desired items, but in the real world with GPUs being so extremely popular right now and even more so when GPU mining was huge, a lot of different software groups make very effective bots all with very close / similar performance because everyone wants a piece of this action, so limiting keys to one bot or another proves totally futile when dealing with the sheer number of bots available on the market.... Using these bots is prohibited by most of your retail sites that are large enough for scalpers to want to target so each bot usually has a limited life span or will eventually need total overhaul to remain effective...but good bots go for anywhere from a few hundred bucks for a weeks use of a "rental" software key to $5k+ for a "permanent" key that you can keep for just about as long as you like.. With these bots and keys also comes a monthly subscription to keep the keys active, usually $25 or $50 per month depending on key level / price... Some keys are cheaper with a higher monthly rental fee....You still with me so far?
So the higher ups in the discord server are basically a "grey market" marketing team, attempting to grow their brand to reach as many other different/various affiliates for various things in the scalping world while raking in cash from their group's users who pay them a monthly fee for access to this software , other affiliate groups with various services / non-bot software offerings or just straight up connections to other groups that can give you that slight edge with earlier access or access to better tools/bots private servers, proxy servers etc... you see because with so many bots and keys available coupled with the sheer amount of scalpers, the location of the end user and their proxy servers in relation to the servers of the site they're trying to bot come in to play to reduce latency to give them another slight edge over one another....If you are on fiber in texas running one of these bots, your proxy servers are in say Virgina as well as the Site's servers you are trying to run your botting script on (amazon servers are in Ashburn, VA a very popular spot for, you guessed it, VPS and Proxy servers...coincidence?) well your proxy server(s) will likely hit on restocked items you're constantly pinging for 24.7 very very very quickly, almost instantly...probably something under 40ms before your proxy hits a ping....but then relaying that back to you where your software for actually autonomously checking out the actual item reside, could take 200+ms to get back to you..meanwhile someone also renting (or using for free, lots of ways to get decent vps for free) a VPS also in Ashburn, VA would have thier proxy's ping, relay to the end user where the software resides (on VPS in Ashburn VA) and check out the item successfully before the person running software on their home PC in texas even got the notification that the item was in stock. By the time Mr Lonestar's PC/Software has made it to the first attempt at check out of the item, if it is a very popular item like all new GPUs, it would likely already be out of stock before the bot could finish checking out / payment. Each of these scalpers using this method use multiple accounts / payment methods for each site, exponentially increasing their chances one of the accounts will hit.. Some run 10 accounts, some run 20 or more on a single site..this is also forbidden on just about every online retailer and could cause a permanent ban on the user if caught...but using VPS / Proxy servers and making sure not to use your main personal accounts on any of the sites you're attempting to scalp pretty much ensures you can just kill your VPS server, make a new one with a new name, new IP, new everything, dump your proxy's to buy a new list of 200+ servers, and either create your own, use one of the multitude of tools that will create multiple accounts for you, or even buy bulk "known good aged accounts" that look much more legit than 20 accounts made that day around the same time with similar names / addresses, IP address, etc.... and be back up and running in no time, missing out on a very small window if anything at all.
So since these scalpers are essentially using a "pay to win" system and even getting a straight up tutor one on one to work with them until they're comfotable/skilled enough to setup and run the bots themselves or even to know the many methods/tricks to using just your hands with browser scripts that will auto check out something if you can get it in your cart manually and that system is so obviously effective that they are stepping all over one another, with extremely small time window advantages being necessary to successfully beat out other scalpers..still only able to purchase 1 to maybe 2 or 3 G PUs at a time when they do come in stock as they're cleaned out so fast...this leaves realistically almost a 0% chance a normal average customer is going to be able to even see something come in stock, much less add it to their cart, check out / enter payment info and address info if they must do so, and actually purchase / receive the GPU. This is beyond an unfair advantage that was especially nasty, cruel, sickening, disgusting, when this was seemingly even more widely used during the pandemic., When the people who suffer are those who are already suffering because they have been displaced through no fault of their own, unable to to afford these exorbitant prices on even the low end, old, 2nd hand hardware that has been scalped to obscurity, while being literally forced to stay home with little to do, unable to purchase any console, graphics card, most CPUs, and even SSDs for their gaming experience or PC build, there is nothing you can say or do to justify your position. Period.... now I was very fortunate and a lot of others can be as well with a little knowledge of how this system, likely most average people either don't know even exists or understand remotely how it works, to help level the playing field. There are free "bots" on github, but they will require some heavy research or a little program knowledge to function on the level those scalpers are paying for can...and even then, running it at home depending on your location without hundreds of proxy servers can still leave you at a decent disadvantage...but it will be MUCH MUCH more likely for you to get whatever it is you want that's being scalped...Concert tickets seemed to be the "GPUs of the past" for popularity and botting sites like ticketmaster or places selling tickets where a bot would work being extremely common targets. Sneakers seem to ALWAYS be just absolutely decimated by scalpers at all times, all seasons and all remotely popular models being targeted endlessly...I've seen videos of law enforcement..uh...well above the state level, being reduced to having to purchase certain sneakers from scalpers to have the luxury of owning a pair personally..... Lastly, and likely most effectively, but also probably the most costly to you behind buying from a scalper directly would be to seek out and join one of these groups to get what it is you want. There are free cook groups out there that are not bad, most free ones aren't good and have other methods of attempting to squeeze money from their server members/users, ways to get in to the good "paid" groups for free with things like giveways and free trials, or there are ways/servers / bot markets you can enter without a group at all to rent or buy just about any software tools and bots available to scalpers with those who are selling / leasing keys often times offering full one on one help learning the software...with nearly all of them offering some sort of guide/tutorial, video instructions on each different site and how to use their particular software with each, etc etc etc.... There are also spreadsheets and documents full of products to scalp and their corresponding SKU#/ItemID# or whatever number each particular site assigns each item and uses as a 100% identifier for the item when being purchased that cirulate these various CGs and will be absolutely vitally necessary if attempting to use a bot/script of any kind to acquire "the thing wanted being scalped" and pretty much makes avoiding these servers impossible if you are wanting to use this mehthod to buy your thing... Users also very commonly share their setup/info used for their successful checkouts with their respective bots / scripts... The learning curve is fairly steep at the beginning, but tapers off very quickly, so any method if any you choose, I would advise you to sit back for a bit before paying for anything, also note and be weary there are scammers there as well just looking to steal your money only offering one of life's hardest lessons in return...that people everywhere of all races, backgrounds, religions, identifying metrics of any kind can also be worthless scummy assholes....so pay attention to whats going on, learn a bit, and get comfortable before making any decisions that have real-life monetary consequence.... Regardless of your method for actually attempting to purchase a GPU or pair of sneakers....or whatever you have deemed precious enough try to fight your way in to possession of.. I would recommend that you venture in to that realm and to wade through the toxic, devoid of any empathy, rational thought, humans who had at least someone love them in their lifetime, wasteland of scalpers....To see how they operate, to see their tricks and tools...they also have probably the best stock alerts in each scalper server around...so that could give you a leg up and cost you nothing...you could find ways to enter in to giveaways for other soffware/bots to give you even more of an edge...or if you are unable to figure out certain aspects on your own or if you're trying to use a free bot/similar to your advantage and finding it impossible to figure out or implement in an effective way, you could get some free help just being in the server / general chat channels and asking questions or for some support...or if you just get downright tired, angry, pissed off that you are just unable to get what you really want, you can always pay to win like the rest of em in the most cost effective way possible, likely still granting you the ability to purchase your new shiny thing and still costing less than buying from a scalper...Like renting an average, but effective bot for a week or a month might cost as little as $100 maybe even less depending on age/credibility of said software, find out where to get free / free 30 day + trial for VPS, and where to find and the exact type of proxies you will need, even more likely at the very least, discount codes for various proxy providers, server providers etc etc.
I probably have/had a somewhat unique perspective because I am a system builder owning a small, but decently profitable personal business ran from an addition on my home offering custom PCs of various performance, uses, styles, etc, 2nd hand refurbished custom PCs or upgraded former office PCs as a cheap alternative for whatever use case as well as PC and electronic device repair and at the time, I was also running a somewhat decent size compared to available space mining farm. At the time, I didn't really actually need any new GPUs having known for a while the scenario was coming and expecting it to be every bit as bad as it was, if not worse...Due to the pandemic / chip shortage, all time crypto prices with all time highs for GPU miners, and in the ~20 years I've been in or around this business witnessing the largest overall demand for gaming PCs and/or hardware for them that I'd ever seen....I knew it was going to get ugly and since I had bought up some stock for the business of whatever decent or better hardware I could find to keep my business limping along....what I did not see coming or didn't take in to account was just how long it would last.... I had recently upgraded, just over a year prior or so, to a 3800x/x570/16g 3200 ddr4/AMD RX 5700 XT system from a very old AM2 platform with an equally old Radeon HD 3870 X2 GPU...and though I had built my new system fully anticipating to upgrade to Zen3 and a better GPU when they were released that year, I was by no means in a spot where I had to or needed to upgrade and I could still be using that same system to this day probably without really actually needing any upgrades, maybe more ram, big maybe.,..anyway, I just wanted to convey my position as I had plenty of time to just kick back, releax, and learn the game as it unfolded before my eyes. Soo...
For me, I personally used a mix of a free bot that I had to write a little python for to remove some limitations and add some simple features to use it as similarly to the scalper bots as possible, setting up a free VPS close to my desired retail store to query/purchase and running the bot/script from there. At the same time, I was navigating and learning my away around the scalperverse, which resides mostly on discord with some parts of other social media networks giving them a platform for a little extra reach...mostly Twitter and Reddit and the scalping communities there are extremely small in comparison.... Also tons and tons of youtube videos and community posts are on youtube, but always linked to from discord and the YT always links back to the discord so nothing very special here either...what I did find though, was the massive basically small economy of retail scalping / botting that is rampant on discord. Not only is everything I've talked about fully available, but different groups, software, bots, etc are viewed as stocks and can be invested in as such for real returns/losses. There are different types of these communities too, like cook groups that specialize in one thing or another, groups that dabble in a little of everything like botting/scalping of anything out there worthy of it, creating their own software tools, having their own buying systems for anything purchased to resell,etc... basically encompassing all the scalping world has to offer in one little group..well these groups are usually absolutely massive and though they offer basically all the tools and means any scalper would want for any process or different niche of the entire scalping experience, they tend to be more for your advanced users or at least somewhat experienced users offering very little help, if any, outside of some written guides/tutorials....
I was able to nab my first GPU a radeon 6700 XT very quickly, like within the first week of looking in to these groups, probably within the first 1.5 days of attempting to get something and with the free bot I slightly manipulated/altered to my liking...after that though, it was very difficult to get anything...I dont know if it was the bot or the sheer numbers/influx of new pleople flooding in specifically to buy GPUs, but probably a combo....any CG server I went to there was always lots of talk about how many new members / scalpers coming for GPUs and PC hardware...good screw the scalpers..not so happy when the playing feild is evened...but what's acutally worse, I think, were the "higher ups" in the groups and espeically in newer groups that changed the environment and tone of their respective groups to cater or at least appear to cater to the new GPU hunters..not to help them, to get that subscription fee...I saw some of them implement "schools" and "classes" that seemed akin to Trump University or those "How to pick up chicks" schools I thought only existed on TV...just going tho show the lengths some humans...these shitty humans will go to exploit other humans and/or their interests, desires, wants, and needs for monetary gain. It's sick and I wish more "normies" would learn about the existence of these lairs of depravity, mostly filled with young people tbh, looking for a way out of or to skip that boring 9-5, which would be admirable, if it weren't on the backs of those that always suffer and get stepped on....i wish for all the normies to learn of these places and go there learn the tricks, learn the tools, find free ones that can be competitive, and even the field. The fairgame bot homepage on GitHub said something like, "If everyone is botting, no one is botting" or something to that effect...I'm sure everyone understands the meaning but basically it said something that meant if everyone has an advantage, no one does and it's fair again. So I'd recommend at least researching and checking out this as a viable option if you're needing /wanting a new gen GPU while also not feeling like you should be expected to pay through the nose for it. Oh, and the scalpers always had the same justification for what they were doing... "It's not food, or shelter, or necessities, it is entertainment tech, designer clothes/shoes, luxury items and there is nothing wrong with us charging/making a luxury tax to make a living ourselves." Which once again, I would totally agree wholeheartedly if they were buying up all these items while not simultaneously literally violating the TOS of each site they're using software in order to obtain these items and giving themselves an extreme, unfair advantage. I'm not against a guy/gal making a buck, or even millions of them...,but doing so in a way that's not violating the rules of the platforms everyone else is playing by.
