Getting ripped off is a choice in the case of scalped product but its a given with theft.

Entitlement is the basis for saying these are the same things. If people pay a price product gets sold at said price. Simple market.

Again, this is coming purely form the defense of "im not against people trying to make a buck" thats all they said, no if's but's or any borders, as long as people are trying to make a buck, they are not against it.

Theft is also people trying to make a buck.

I would also say that its hard calling it a choice when they literally cannot buy the card anymore because its out of stock because scalper's bots bought it all before any human could.....so if you NEED that card and was waiting for it for your job....is it really a choice? they took away that choice by bot-buying up the entire inventory.

But whatever, pointless debate that just keeps going in circles im sure, agree to disagree I guess.

There I was saying "scalpers are here to stay" just week ago and people were saying "whatcha talking bout, mining is over". Well, here we are...

Well we still have to see if it actually pays off, lot less incentive to buy an already expensive product at even more inflated prices when you cant make some of that back via mining.

I think Scalper will regret buying these.

The key difference is one is legal the other is not... Didn't realize on a tech forum I had to distinguish that I'm ok with someone making a buck legally but not illegally.

I hate scalpers as much as the next person at the same time what they are doing is legal and the systems in place allow them to make a buck off of high demand items.

I'm more upset with retailers not having better systems in place to combat bots etc.

Dont know what this being a "tech forum" has to do with it but, you specifically left out indeed the legal part, am I suppose to guess where you line of "being ok with it" lies?
You made a very broad statement that you are ok with people trying to make a buck.
Yeah if you would have added "as long as its legal" you would have not only ended any doubts about your stance on theft, but actually raised a good point about the thin lined legality of this, because Im pretty sure this is walking a very thin line in the law of commerce.

A "bot" is an undue advantage in a transaction. I am sure it would not stand up in court but who has enough time to care. It is part of society now. These things are not fads. Fads don't make money. Anything that makes money stays with society. At some point there will be a reality check for the prices. That is the real issue.

hah, have at it, scalpers. The card was already priced around double of what I'm willing to pay anyway. Happy to keep waiting.

Can't agree on that, sure this may apply to the 4090 with its already absurd price but getting ripped off is often not a choice! I was in a similar situation about 2 years back around peak Covid but thankfully Zotac's "extended" warranty came through & didn't have to pay stupid prices for ordinary cards.

Blame the idiots as much as you want but throw a dart or two at the greedy scalpers as well.
No, sorry. There will always be rats unless people stop feeding them. Always been there, they thrive on attention though and thats what shortages gave them. So now its a norm. We created this.

Societies either cultivate that dynamic or they move to kill it. Apparently we prefer cultivating it because hordes of fools are buying a 4090 at 2K and over, even if just from retail. Other hordes of fools consider open marketplaces like Ebay and amazon great places to buy product, feeding across lower segments just the same.

You get what you pay for; pay half wits, get half wit treatment. The world is really that simple. Why are you even defending idiot consumers paying up? Because deep down, you feel its not your/our fault. But it really is. WE feed the consuming beast. We.

Its a hard thing to realize because its true and it echoes across all things we consume that are in effect pure luxury.

Nobody needs Geforce for a job. And if they do surely they have a business model that can carry a few grand on capital to do the job. But you still dont really need the top card at release. Absolute entitled bullshit.

lol, they're gonna take this one right in the chin...there's boatloads of these cards, stocks have been built up for months by countless partners, just usual bottleneck first few weeks to get them to the shops but will normalise soon

Pretty sure every high-end Nivida card has sold out at launch for the past decade or more......this is probably a non issue, give it a month.......with the holidays coming up Scalpers have extra incentives to try and hoard an item in the hopes others will hoard it, in the hopes of being able to resell at a profit because the market is cornered. SEE: Cabbage Patch Kids, Beanie Babies, Tickle Me Elmo.....Xboxs and PS5's.....

But we're in a post-COVID world now, ships are sailing .....containers are shipping.....

Who's paying a premium for a $1600 card when the crypto-mining component has effectively been removed from the purchasing pool besides YouTubers who need video topics to post and Money-No-Object gamers? Those same types who will immediately dump their 3090 Ti's for $600 on ebay, by the way..........which is probably where the smart people are shopping right now.

Actually video games are designed and programmed on systems with GeForce and Radeon video cards. There are other content creators who can effectively use the GeForce products; they aren't required to use RTX professional models.

Fine fine, idk enough about that world, im more repeating what GN mentions every now and then (and Epox Vox's vid on the RTX4090 specifically for creation) when giving buying advice specifically talking about how Nvidia's top end cards are good for certain workloads like Blender.

Ewwwwwww, please find it in yourselves to Not buy from scalpers people.

Arse Total arse, we we're told Nvidia had enviable stock's of this part, well, clearly not.

Oh and the pro job argument to me is ball's.

If it's to earn me money I wouldn't use tech released two minutes ago it's likely to lead to issues.

There are a lot of deaf ears here.

Many people bought graphics cards from scalpers during the pandemic. Even the ones who didn't buy from scalpers often paid well over MSRP from approved retailers who took advantage of the GPU shortage.

And today there are tons of people buying used mining cards and posting here for help to flash the BIOS.

Hell, I think three quarters of the posts in the Graphics section are those "BIOS for mining card" requests. It's been like this since March.

Remember that people who overpriced items don't care that they are driving up prices for everyone else. They only care about selfishly having the item in question. And this isn't exclusive to PC hardware components, this is a how a free market economy works.

Meh who cares. People with that kind of throw away money don’t. So why should anyone else. Looks like there is good money in scalping high end stuff.

maybe I should ask the bank for a loan and see if I can scalp 3-4 Lamborghini a year with $30k markup? :)

Technically if the car is highly sought after the Dealer will scalp you anyways here in the states hybrids were marked up 10k during peak covid and I believe even now there are 2-6k markups over MSRP.

I completely agree^^

Although i like to add: the original scalper is the exaggerated asking price (MSRP) and very likely deliberate low inventory count to promote "out of stock" free marketing headlines.... if people (esp. rich-pocket gamers) choose to entertain NVIDIA and give credence to this type of scheming and higher premium standardisation across all tiers... then why not, third-party scalpers are more than welcome to push this kaput madness at full throttle. On a positive note, people (esp. gamers) who have no problem parting $1600-$2000 for a gaming card might as well be happy giving some of that loose change to some bumb who is tryna make a little extra cash to cover this years energy costs and maybe enough savings to afford a $300 entry level card.

I want to see the same level of disgust or disrepute for Nvidia's scalping (yep im calling MSRP in-house scalping). Forget $1600.... even $900-$1000 for the two 4080 variants is rediculous. Wheres does that leave the 4060 and 4070.... $500-$750??? scalp'ized MSRP and low stock is nothing new seeing its a growing phenomena from the last 3-4 Gens... i'm not one bit surprised third party scalpers get in on the action (a natural phenomena) Its all cunningly kaput if you ask me so leaves very little sentiments for 4090 cherishing patronage

Dont worry - I'm getting great comms feedback from Congress and SEC commissioners in pushing for more accurate break-up of margins. From next year we'll be seeing "gross margins" alongside "CLSNSI margins" (Cunningly Low-Supply Naughty Scalping Incursions)" LOL

Borderline monopolistic practices is more like it. I think there should be laws capping profit margin. That would be a better fix for inflation than the interest rate manipulation they use now.

Let all the stone throwers join in and call me names and what not. I bet I could get arrested talking like that is 20 or so of the states that make up the United States of America. I don't believe anyone foresaw the unbridled greed that exists in this day and age. Morality and civility be damned. I can't rightly say that ripping people off for something they don't need is really immoral, but it is certainly greedy in a perverse way. It only contributes more to the problems at hand. People starving or living without shelter, meanwhile others are spending $2K on a damn video card to play video games. I love to relax and unwind with some gaming, but this has gotten to be absurd.
