I'd go mad at anything over 20-30 seconds these days, kinda funny given we had at least 2-20x longer boot times on HDD's in the past :shadedshu:
20-30 seconds was my boot time on HDD back on sata 3. 6-7 seconds was my boot time on I5 3470 on Plextor M5 Pro. Nowadays it's 12 seconds clean boot when changing anything in BIOS, and around 9 seconds of regular. That's with OS on PCI-E Gen 3 NVMe.

Granted, when X570 launched a 15-18 second boot time was the norm, even with NVMe.

That's just the acceptable limit for me, because I remember 5-10 minute (re)boot times from 20 years back. Also on laptops I get mid to high double digit boot times, in part because I haven't upgraded it in the last 5 years.

I guess the point is high speed storage has been arguably the biggest difference in computing over the last 20-30 years! I recently upgraded the last HDD booting system (laptop) to an SSD & couldn't be happier, even though I lost a fair bit on overall storage space.

Intel's biggest issue is not whether they have some more performance per dollar in a given generation or not. It's their platform that requires you to change your motherboard every time. They are simply unsuitable for the DIY user like myself. If I have to recommend a new machine to someone who simply wants a good modern PC right now and who is not gonna do anything with it but change it in like five years down the track I'd send them Intel's way - 13600K and all that jazz. But me - who upgrades one or two components every other year - I'm sticking with AMD.

Either are easily tweakable to fit your needs without losing more than 5% of stock performance. It would really just come down to how much of an upgrade path you want.

Both the 13900k and 7950X are pushed way beyond their efficiency curves to try and one up each other.
It's true, though now I'm looking at this:
When limited to 105 W, the 13900K performs at the same level as a 7700X in HUB's test. The 7700X is a cheaper CPU, but I would need to buy DDR5 RAM with it, so they kind of equal out. The other big question is cooling. The 13900K at stock throttled with HUB Steve's 360 mm AIO. My 280 mm be quiet AIO works fine with my 11700 up until about 180-200 W. I'm wondering if Raptor Lake's heat dissipation is similar to that of Rocket Lake's or not. I'm also wondering how much gaming performance I would lose by power limiting these CPUs. With Eco mode on the 7700X, not a lot. I'm not sure about the 13900K.

Edit: I know that the 13900K and 7700X aren't equal in any sense - I'm just playing with my thoughts here. :D

That's a foolish advice for people who are on older systems and need an upgrade right now.

RPL still have lots of untapped potential that haven't been explored yet like 7600MT DDR5 support, I'm sure it will make a sizeable difference. Overclockers have already tried 7600MT DDR5 on 12900K and they say it improve 1%low FPS by 30%.
That's exactly the trigger for my next CPU upgrade. When fast DDR5 is commonplace, I'm ready to go and the gap between my last CPU will be worth doing it for.

Interesting also to see the differences happen in front of you if you're going that route on 13th. But some X3D chip might also tempt me. Lots of choice :)

OCing RAM is probably the only thing worth doing now, RPL and Ryzen7000 have like zero OC headroom.

When 7000 X3D is available for purchase it's already half way until Intel 14th, you might as well play the waiting game forever.

For now they split loads because not every user is full time busy with gaming, average joe doesnt need a gaming rig while doing office and such.

What's with the obsession about OC-ing when these modern CPUs give you everything they've got at stock? Memory OC only adds a couple % performance at most. It's no use.

I for one, think that having no OC headroom is great. All I have to do is enable XMP for my system to operate at its maximum capability. :)

They will wait. It's foolish to buy garbage AM5 products right now :D
Yeah, if you have something like a Sandy Bridge i5 or i7, I'm sure you'll wait for something that won't even be announced for another year and a half at least. Really sound advice.

When 7000 X3D is available for purchase it's already half way until Intel 14th, you might as well play the waiting game forever.
I agree. The waiting game is a fool's errand. There's always something newer to wait for.

From R5 3600 to R7 5700X sooner or later. Not going to buy a new platform to only get a heater in my apartment.

So, they have been using the Sandy Bridge for a decade and today they somehow realised that they need to upgrade?
No, of course not. These new chips are bad, these people can stay with Sandy Bridge.

I am using similar performance with Raven Ridge and I don't see the need for the marketing "latest and greatest chip".
My point is that if you need or want something now, that is now, and not 2-3 years later. If you wait for the next generation, and the next, and the next, then you're waiting forever and you never have what you need/want. Waiting for the next generation is entirely pointless, imo, unless you're waiting to catch some good deals on used current-gen stuff.

HUBs results seem abnormally low for the 13900k as more reputable reviewers test it at lower wattages we will get a better picture. Also the 13700k seems like the better fit for most people.

Der8auer paints a better picture for efficiency tweaking at least for gaming.

Also at this point I would ditch DDR4.... DDR5 shows large enough gains in some games already and that will only likely widen over time. A high end DDR4 kit isn't much cheaper than a solid DDR5 kit anyway. Although for buyers trying to save every dollar who tend to stick with midrange gpus I can see the argument for DDR4.

That "125W TDP" is a total joke, I don't even understand why they use that in marketing?

No option for "I'm AMD and am planning to upgrade to AMD". So I chose first option. Meh.

Think the heat is too much for me, so I'm just going 5600X or 5700X. Where I can still use me Vetroo V5 on a 65 watt chip...

13600K + DDR4 make sense for a strict budget build (more money for GPU), but yeah for high-end it's better go to DDR5 with 13700K/13900K

I'm getting 2x16GB 6000C36 DDR5, let see how far I can overclocking it :D

I also want something now but there is nothing worth it. Everything on the market is so bad. Now is not the time to buy.
So bad compared to what?

Was considering the AMD 7000 Series cpu's (7700x to be exact) but the fact that it tries to run above 90c, has to train memory timings, has to have DDR5 and the motherboards are expensive are a turn off for me. Raptor lake has peaked my interest but I think I would be satisfied with either the 5900x or the 5800x3D for the next 5 years. Pair that with a 3080-3080Ti-3090 and I'm done. Will see depending on price.

That would be HUGE upgrades for you, whatever you do!!...

If your system specs are current that is...
