China RX 580 2048SP VBIOS Flash to RX 570?

Hello,

I've recently purchased a Chinese "ELSA" Branded RX 580 8GB which turned out to be an RX 580 8GB 2048SP, which I didn't even know these things existed.

----------------------------------------------

The Problem: When installing AMD Adrenalin Drivers, the driver install will complete but when I try to launch Adrenalin software, I get this error:

"Windows Update may have automatically replaced your AMD graphics driver. Hence, the version of AMD Software you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed AMD Graphics driver."

This is on a completely fresh install of Windows 10 and NOT connected to my network.

And of course it stays in ugly stretched out resolution and not native on the monitor because of the drivers are not working.

2022_10_29_03_55_IMG_6199.JPG

----------------------------------------------

I have tried:

  • Fresh Install Windows 11 Pro
  • Fresh Install Windows 10 Pro
  • Latest AMD Adrenalin Drivers 22.10.3
  • Latest AMD PRO Edition 22.Q3
  • AMD Auto-Detect Driver Installation
  • Windows Update Driver Installation
In between driver installs, I have used DDU to remove previous drivers before installing new ones.

----------------------------------------------

Solution? (Help Please)

It is my understanding, and please correct me if I am wrong, in order to get the drivers to play nice I have to flash the VBIOS to RX 570 8GB. Since it is a Chinese Brand "ELSA", I have no idea which VBIOS to flash here without bricking the card. I have uploaded the VBIOS of the card here @ this link: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/250383/250383

If anyone can point me in the right direction to get this card up and running, I will be eternally grateful! :)

----------------------------------------------

Specs (If needed):

i7-4790k
MSI Z97
8GB RAM

2022_10_29_10_42_IMG_6200.JPG

----------------------------------------------

EDIT: While digging through GPU-Z under Advanced Tab, I found this. It seemingly has an XFX bios flashed according to the config file in the photo below. Would I have better luck trying a VBIOS from say, Sapphire or Gigabyte?

ELSA is not a Chinese brand, it's German. In fact, they used to make pro-tier cards back in the day. I have an ELSA GF3 Ti 200 in my box of cards.

edit: Though it's now a Taiwanese brand so technically it's Chinese.

This card is a 7-year-old technology. Maybe AMD dropped the support.
I would advise to sell the card and buy something modern from this year - RX 6500 XT for example.

RX 6500 XT is worse than RX 570/RX 580 2048D

6500XT is a crippled card, which amd released specifically to tackle the mining problem. Etherium is now dead so 6500XT became useless. I highly suggest checking out GamersNexus's channel, he makes some great quality in-depth reviews

Sure RX 400 and 500 series are old tech, perf per watt ~ geforce 900 series (we are talking 2015). But still supported, nice FSR results too, even using an rx 470.

Selling the card or using another card is not an option. I have to use this card.

Well, those chinese guys from ELSA maybe they indeed used an XFX BIOS.
The problem is : why in the world some1 would buy (actually to pay money for it) a chinese version of an RX580?
Now we have to dig in the whole database to see if we find some BIOS that matches your card.
BTW - from GPU-z go to advanced tab and choose memory. I need that picture.

Thank you @impero !

Yes it was an unfortunate mistake that I have learned from. I genuinely thought that an RX 580 is just an RX 580. I did not know about this particular version existed, nor did I think it would give driver issues.

Anyway, here is the photo you requested. Under Memory Timings Tab, it appears to be " HYNIX H5GC8H24AJR "

Those "xxx SP" cards seem to be common thing on the China market, sometime ago i got my hands onto a R9 270... 1024sp edition. Even tho the seller listed it as a R9 270 (80 rops vs 64, so quite a significant performance drop).

Really? How? Why?

Really? The 6500 XT is FASTER than the 2304-shader RX 580 and this one here is limited to only 2048 shaders.

Those bars don't show bad stuttering even in old games, straight up hangs and freezes and other "goodies" of insufficient bandwidth and axed features, not to mention even worse performance on older PCIe version hardware. And that's just gaming, for productivity or GPGPU compute it's also weak and RX 580 beats it.

Ok, then go ahead and brick the card.

Hello.
Here you have a BIOS file that is a perfect match for your card ID subID and memory code:

Also here you have a short guide how to flash the card :

A million times, THANK YOU!! I will try this today, fingers crossed!

Hello.

One question, wouldn't I have to flash it to RX 570 VBIOS to make the Adrenalin drivers work? I was under that impression since the current RX 580 2048SP VBIOS does not work.

I offered you the right BIOS file for your card.
We try 1st this way.
Remember to save 1st your BIOS for further tests.
Keep it in a safe place.
All we do from now on is testing the card.
If we don;t like the outcome we can always return to original BIOS.

Hello @impero

I have followed the instructions you listed posted by @eidairaman1 as he lists specifically to use a method for RX 580 (which I did)

I used the VBIOS you listed here ( VGA Bios Collection: AMD RX 580 8 GB | TechPowerUp ) and though it appears to be a successful flash, the result is still the same problem. After the flash, I rebooted as instructed and tried to install the amd drivers. The drivers installed to the PC but did not work with the GPU, same as before. When I try to launch AMD software it gives the same error. "Windows Update may have automatically replaced your AMD graphics driver. Hence, the version of AMD Software you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed AMD Graphics driver."

Please let me know what the next step is from here, as I really appreciate your guidance!

EDIT: here is a photo of cmd prompt after the flash

Hello everyone, I have also bought a chinese rx 580 8GB 2048sp (by a brand called ENWEIDA). I want to flash it to RX 570 BIOS but sadly i had no luck until now. Seems like i have samsung vram modules (also opened the card to make sure and indeed there where samsung chips on the front side). I'm a bit confused about the low clock speed of 1184 mhz on the core so i also uploaded the bios file whhich seems to be the same like MLLSE cards. maybe someone can help me? I must ask why you want to do this?

It is possible but somewhat risky, and I cannot think of any gain you would have.

Because I need hardware acceleration on my hackintosh under macOS. I already tried several bios‘es around here and always had to flash back because of black screening

Yes I rebooted as it instructed.

After reboot I installed drivers and still no luck.

What driver version are you trying ?.
Well as far as i know, the BIOS was flashed correctly this time.
I suggest to clean your old drivers.
Download drivers from 2020 NOT newer from AMD.
Boot computer in safe mode and with network cable off.
Use DDU to clean old drivers.
Restart computer normally and install the driver you downloaded.
Now you can restart computer and after restart plug in the network.

Wouldn't the last driver be 21.5.2 as AMD did a out of the blue update for them.

Ah, ok.

Can you provide a GPU-Z screenshot, and a picture of the Memory Timings page under the Advanced tab?

Also, a picture of the sticker on the back of the card (the one that shows the model) can be helpful.
