Intel Core i9-13900KS Confirmed with 150W Base Power and 6 GHz Boost Speed

Intel is expanding its 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" desktop processor family with a number of new SKUs, led by the new flagship Core i9-13900KS. A leaked company slide confirmed the upper-end SKUs' specs. Led from the top, the new i9-13900KS packs the same 8P+16E (8 performance cores + 16 efficiency cores) configuration as the i9-13900K. It has a slightly higher 3.20 GHz base frequency compared to the 3.00 GHz of the i9-13900K, but boosts all the way up to 6.00 GHz, compared to 5.80 GHz of the i9-13900K. To ensure improved boost frequency residency, Intel bumped up the processor base power value from 125 W to 150 W, while leaving the maximum turbo power value untouched at 253 W.

We also see the specs of the non-K Core i9-13900 and Core i7-13700, which offer the same 8P+16E and 8P+8E core-configs as the i9-13900K and i9-13700K, respectively, but without unlocked multipliers. The i9-13900 ticks at 2.00 GHz with 5.60 GHz maximum turbo frequency, whereas the i7-13700 does 2.10 GHz base, with up to 5.20 GHz boost, compared to 3.40 GHz base and 5.40 GHz boost of the i7-13700K. As "locked" chips both have lower processor base power values of just 65 W, and maximum turbo power values of 219 W. Both these chips could include a cooling solution in the box, which is very likely the Laminar RH1 stock cooler that company includes with the i9-12900 and i9-12700. Intel is expected to announce these chips alongside a large number of 13th Gen Core i5 SKUs on January 3.

This 6GHz over OC still won't help vs ZEN 4-3D in the games that utilize the extra catch, but will do some good in all other (many) cases and for extra $$$.
Anyway, the 13900K/KS isn`t the right CPU if you are into gaming mainly, but if AMD will set the cost acorrding to it the consumer will loss no matter what.
Power consumption will be outrageous when limits are down, that is for sure, saturation of the EPS connector is not so far now.

Its not even binning is it when they have to add 25W base power... they do that to achieve their whoppin 200 mhz baseclock upgrade! And we allknow peak TDP is shown as a similar number but that only happens because the rest of the sheet says 'up to' on peak frequency.

This is just a shameless product all the way, you have to be a unique type of idiot to pay for this I think.

If you have never had an Intel processor in your life, it is easy to make such statements. You probably consider yourself a genius.
With the same PL2, the 13900KS will be equal to or marginally exceed the 12900K in some applications (like Blender), but it can even bring a 10% increase in others (like Lightroom). I keep repeating that (example) a 20 or 30% slower in renderings/encodings is not a tragedy (the computer can work without your assistance, you can sleep during this time), but it is comforting to have extra performance when working with it. With PL1 increased from 125W to 150W, they have a much more aggressive processor response in the entire frequency range.
If the wind blows through our pockets and we ask the seller how much a muffin costs, KS is not worth it. I can't even afford it.
For those who break the cost of 2-3KS in a night in clubs, the price is moderate for the best processor on this socket. Overclockers also hunt it.

Really not liking now of current gen products been released with stock way up the power curve. The only good thing is its basically a supported pre overclocked product which has some value, but the focus is well and truly away from energy consumption now.

yes, in hindsight it is ridiculous that people actually paid a significant premium for dual core mobile i7s not too long ago, which fundamentally were not any different than i5s.

I think that binning in any real measure is over when they can only achieve frequency increase with power increase over an already inflated K cpu. The K is already at peak. More just needs the security of expanded TDP or is unreliable to achieve its baseclock increase. The top end increase (turbo) is then also achieved by momentarily exceeding stated peak TDP, or just not at all as specs say 'up to'.

It is definitely a better processor than 13900K. For many it matters that it is the best on this socket.
If we are still talking about Ferrari, the sports car does not justify its price in relation to a classic car. However, they can be bought and we all dream of one, right?
It's stupid, if I may, to bring consumption into discussion at this level. If you are serving a meal at a luxury restaurant, don't be afraid of the price of a bun.
