Does HEC have more modern platforms currently offered that BQ can use for such unit?
I wonder, since it seems like BQ wants to keep its designs as German as they often can.

They use FSP for a good number of their PSU build who, like HEC group, is Taiwanese.

Does HEC have more modern platforms currently offered that BQ can use for such unit?

Sure, but it costs more. Than again BQ could have stayed with CWT for the System Power 10 like they did with the 9 series. This is all about cost cutting by them.

Those Cougar Polar units, aren't those HEC?
made by XHY
I guess so. Cougar is HEC's brand. The question was more regarding budget units
I believe HEC owns a part of them but is not sole owner (it may have changed recently) as I said above they started using other OEMs for their high end builds

Laughable. I'm shocked to see my CX750m perform so well, outside of a few issues.

I agree with this comment. I have mentioned in the past on my opinion about the state of quality within the Tech industry.

Everyone is cutting corners. Everyone is pushing the cost to whatever the market will bare.

ADDED: My Rosewell 850W 80+ Gold has been running on my high end rig for 3 years with no issues what so ever. At the time it was $75 including shipping. So thanks for the review on this PSU. There are little reviews on PSU online anymore so every little bit helps.

That headline alone hurts me, but be quiets PSU pricing here in Au is absurdly high - i just wasnt aware they did that around the world too
this shouldn't have been launched. It's an insult to their reputation.

Oh although this:
  • Only a single 4-pin Molex connector
I'd prefer PSU's to have zero floppy and molex connectors, but include a sata to molex adaptor.

System Power 10 series is the lowest end unit in be quiets portfolio, they are the bulk OEM power supplies. So no surprise they are bad.

iirc their lineup goes System Power -> Pure Power -> Straight Power -> Dark Power / Pro. The Pure Power is already very high quality and comes Gold rated, even for the 400W unit. In fact they are the only ones on the market who offer Gold efficiency for an only 400W power supply, it's a wonderful little unit for home servers (they also have a 300W Gold unit but that one is TFX form factor).

Yeah, but they're often a unique size (135mm) with a 2 small 2 pin connector

You're stuck with the factory fan profile so you could put a fan in but have it run too slow to safely cool the PSU, so it's not recommended (and this thread isn't the place to discuss it)

In most cases, you can, but you need to modify the header and pay great attention to use a similar spec fan. If the fan that the PSU uses is PWM controlled, it is way more complex.

What an amazing review! So technical and thorough! I wasn’t aware PSUs were analysed in such a deep way here. Kudos.

Terrible idea:

Molex is a higher-power connector than SATA. If you convert from a lower-power connector that is only rated for 54W to a molex connector which is rated for 156W, you have high potential for it to be misused and melt/fire. That's probably less of an issue in practice because the 16AWG cable optimistically used for molex is only rated for 9A, which is 108W on the 12V circuit, but you're still looking at converting from a 54W connector up to a 108W connector. On the downside, Some SATA cables only use 18AWG and they could easily ignite or melt their wire insulation if asked to deliver the sort of power that a molex connector is capable of delivering.

In many PCs it won't be a problem, but you only have to see the idiocy people are capable of to know that it's a fire waiting to happen and with enough of those you get brand-destroying reputation or class-action lawsuits against you. As someone who manufactured their own cables for mining rigs and did plenty of research to check what was safe, I saw plenty of forum post examples and anecdotes of people using SATA-to-molex and starting fires. Within the mining community, SATA is a "do not use" cable for good reason.

molex connector which is rated or 154W
11 A per pin. Which would be 132 W for 12 V and 55 W for 5 V.

SATA Power is 1.5 A per pin. 3 pins for 12 V makes it indeed 54 W. 22 W for 5 V and 14.85 W for 3.3 V.

That has nothing to do with anything. HEC can make a good PSU. beQuiet just phoned this one in to them.

Nice review !

The problem isn't the fan here (although I personally detest Yatel Loon fans). It's the fan controller. So you can swap out the fan, but the controller is still going to control it, and if it's a fan with higher CFM at the same voltage and lower static pressure, the controller is just going to ramp that fan up even higher than if you just leave the stock fan in there.

Really it has nothing to do with anything, you really do have an interesting approach to psu's

"be quiet! needs to rethink the whole System Power 10 concept and replace it with something better, as soon as possible, at least the models with up to 750 W capacity which use this terrible HEC platform."

That's just it. It's my opinion that this PSU was never meant to be 750W.
they are certainly not the first brand to push a platform past its purpose simply to have market representation at a cheap price, they are guilty of it but not alone
