So recently German repair shop received 48 dead AMD GPU's series 6000 (6800.6900) maybe is just a coincidence but it is very interesting that all those cards have broken gpu-chip,some owners played games others just watched videos and some use their gpu's for work when they suddenly broken but what is very intriguing is that all of the card owners claim that are been using latest AMD drivers......

I wonder if that driver was loaded for the Power profile for 7900 series cards?

Yeah had seen his video yesterday and was going post about it.

Don't know how i feel about it overall though as there could be many reasons and that card in the pic has rust on it so to me it seems it was not treated to well.

As today it seems a lot of people don't use common sense.

What Dec 8th update? What driver is that? Adrenalin 22.11.2 was released around December 1st, and adrenalin 22.12.1 was around December 13th, so was the driver the 22.11.2 or 22.12.1 (only for RX 7900 cards). But he'd mentioned specifically December 8th update.....so, what gives?

Not even, release date was the 11\30\22

Where is that thread from a few weeks ago where someone was putting 1.2v through a 6800xt...? Seriously, highly improbable the driver has anything to do with it.

Most likely a local issue, fud, or propaganda as the players smear each other in a desperate attempt to boost flagging sales because they've both totally mispositioned their cards this gen and nothing much is moving...

How could a card that is not even 3 years old have rust on it? You would have to abuse a card to get it to that condition.

So I watched the video and have to come to the same conclusion. Around the start of last year Nvidia was releaseing a card I don't remember what but the Driver AMD released around then put the Power limit of my card was put to 330 Watts. I don't see a small bump in power causing this issue. I do believe that 61 AMD users (In Germany) are more than enough to have one with more skills than the others to install the driver for the (as I have said before) 7000 series on a 6000 series card. I have never seen a card in that condition. Of course it could also be a production issue or a bug in something other than the processor. When I looked at the card in the video there was no evidence of the fuse being blown either. I have never seen a GPU die(from power) where the fuse does not burn out.

Depends on the conditions, really. If moisture in the air, humid air and low-quality material... I am not surprised, even the slightest :slap:

Ok I agree with a 6800XT getting rust if you have Open Bench that sits beside the Ocean outside. The climate in Germany is no different to that of Canada and I have never seen a card that sits inside do that (In the Garage yes).

This one repair shop all of a sudden receives 48 dead graphics cards with a Navi 21 chip and no one wonders about the timing and localization?
Is he still getting new dead GPUs every day or did they all just come last week?

To me this just screams of a bunch of GPUs that were mishandled during a mining operation, sent to a repair shop in the hopes for reselling on the 2nd hand market.

Just as well i dont blindly update radeon drivers each time there is a release, I give it a few days to a week before heading down to AMDs reddit or reddit support page and just read through some of the comments regarding the latest drivers.

I probably dodged a lot of bullets that way. I would recommend that people do the same. A lot of people dont have issues and thats fair and best of luck to you. But at the same time there are quite a lot of folks that do. Especially me with constant blackscreening/shadows, stuttery/freezing videos and 'GPU recoveries' with chrome browsers when browsing sites like YT. -- there was some HW acceleration bug that Radeon software didnt like and the only real option was to change to a non-chromium browser or hack some of the settings in chrome to turn a HW acceleration based option off. Its made me regret my purchase a lot less after that.

I haven't had issues in quite awhile but I recently updated to 22.11.2 last month and blackscreening and 'GPU recoveries' seem to be back on the menu for me. :banghead:
Not very frequent, (only 3 in 3 weeks) but enough to be very annoying as GPU crash also crashes my VM's when I'm using them for work during the day.
I'm just going to have to go back to my prior method of driver management to just find the driver version that works without crashes and never upgrade it.

AFAIK, AMD cards don't have the same level of hardware protection built into them as NVIDIA's do. So it is possible, though unlikely, that a driver bug (or just pushing the power limits a bit too high to eke out some extra perf) is causing some 6000-series cards to go bang. But no point in becoming overly concerned until a more reputable source like GN jumps on this - that said, if I was a 6000-series owner I would downgrade my drivers for the time being.

I have pushed 460W and 1.3v through my 6900xt for some water cooled benchmarks, but I keep it on power saving normally with low voltage.

I see guys on ocn running 500W as a daily gaming overclock. While I think that's just stupid, they haven't broken it.

That's like saying Amazon delivered it, they do it all the time on me which they tend to not knock when a delivery is made.

What ever the reason that card has not be stored in a healthy place.

Didn't 6800XT/6900XT/6950XT have some crazy transient spikes going on?

In order to protect the GPU I'm pretty sure there needs to be actual fuses implemented on the PCB, GPU won't just save itself. So with a wonky driver......I need to go look at some 6900XT PCBs again. Just fun speculation

Yes usually you have to go to MPT to run unsafe profiles, but don't driver updates overwrite SPPT anyway?

No issues on my end with the latest driver. There are transient spikes above 500W for sure, but no overheating issues.

Nice analogy, and I think you're on the money here.

Inflation and money being tight for people will bring up a million more things much like it. People are salvaging things, try to get it on the cheap... it was no different for all those sad ebayers buying GPUs during mining. They had to find something they could afford, ended up with a GTS 450 or something.

Sorry, but I know you can't do that to these chips with out a pick & chisel. Seen "Chew*" on xtremesystems.org try to get threw the silioncon on a phenom II x6 die, had to use a chisel to get it to look like that. Voltage & tpd removed alone can't do that. I bet these were some minning cards dumped on a bunch of people.

Hang on a minute.

Wtaf are these people on anyway.

Why are they being taken to a repair shop.

They had warranties.

In normal use that warranty would still have been valid.

This is total rubbish if my GPU popped while at idle or gaming I wouldn't be taking a new in warranty GPU to a repair shop.

A+B doesn't equal fu£#@£ P on this Story.

Common sense is not common on the interwebs, is what this is. I see a pattern :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one here smelling a RAT. I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying too many things don't add up!

This is worth a watch

Who is Kris, he's clearly a pro and earning off repairs and isn't a prolific tuber, he looks legit to me, all odd though still.
