Ryzen Owners Zen Garden

AMD was fun, back to Intel for me next round
That's the best viewpoint to have

I'll change to whoever gives me performance per watt and performance per dollar in the same product - but only as the total price package, which means 'required' extras like cooling are included

And I'll change to whatever I need at the present moment. For now, I'm happy with my 7700X. I'll plan my next upgrade when I'm not happy anymore. :)

To be honest, curiosity has been the biggest reason for my upgrades in recent years, but it has to stop. PC hardware has got too expensive for me to swap whenever some shiny new tech is out.

Heh some funny comments before.... aios are great I guess.. but I now have 2 dead units sitting on my hallway ready for recycling. 1 computer already went back
to owner with an air cooler, he's very happy, and now my TR system will get the same treatment. As for beige and brown... it's a workstation! Not the showpiece
desktop. It sits in the corner and chugs vms and other things... who cares.... I did pick too small of a cooler though... got too excited and pulled the trigger too fast

Okay, guess I'm officially a member of the zen garden. I boo booed a bit a got a much smaller cooler than I wanted... but it works at least:

I have no idea how to oc this thing... don't seem to have any pbo settings. I can set adaptive voltage, but not frequency. What the heck? I set it to 4.0ghz, and oced my 2400mhz ram to 2677... but still don't

quite understand how to oc this dam threadripper....

Threadripper wasnt designed to be OC'd liked the desktop parts

I'm sure it can be, but it's definitely not the same process

Yes, it can be, but frustrating. I should be able to oc using pstates, but that menu is greyed out for me. If I leave it at auto, dam thing oces to 4.2ghz, but at 1.475v.
I can get 4.0 at 1.27v using fixed. Darn thing.

Hey y'all. I asked here at this thread but I'll try here too

Anyone else getting this on the 7700 non x to where if you try advanced PBO in bios the cpu sticks at 5.5 Multi? Im not thermal throttling and ive tried every combination of settings in that blasted PBO page.
Specs in profile.

None for my B550s yet.. booo.

Did they unlock X3D yet?

Isn't the 7700's stock Fmax 5350? That means even with +200 PBO the most you can do is 5550. You cannot exceed the Fmax ceiling while using PBO, unless you use BCLK (but that would still be limited to the 55.5x multiplier).

If you want to go further you have to all-core OC.

Interesting numbering for what is the same BIOS. Dunno what's the difference between this new 1208-based 4402 vs. the old 1208-based 4303.

Not 55.0. 5.5 meaning 550mhz

Yeah that's a bios or agesa bug for sure  probably need to shop around amongst some older BIOSes to see if they behave different

Otherwise what sort of PBO settings are you running? Not much point in pushing that much power through the 8-core part, even under water. Curve optimizer alone should be able to get you much of what you need.

Was doing it on the release bios. Im on the newest. Currently using the PBO 75C Thermal limit -30mv CO preset on the motherboard. Just would be nice if i could set things myself. Ryzen Master is a bit dodgy.

Paging @ir_cow. Have you experienced this during any of your review of the board?

If it sets a 75C limit, how much extra headroom do you realistically get? Single CCD 8-core parts always scale poorly with power and temps even under water.

The default 88/75/150 might be slightly restrictive but realistically you're looking at what, 20W extra before temps start to climb exponentially?

If -30 is stable just set that, then open up +200 override, and see how it goes.

yeah last update, modded BIOS had it prior to that

Full PBO for all the asus boards when they get this one on the x3D

I did the same thing with a 75C limit myself actually, no loss to performance other than possibly some small bursts not getting as high for those brief milliseconds but it lets my OCD feel happier about temps in the weather here

Even on custom water loops, 36c ambients don't do any good for temps at idle or load

MSpainted stuff out so just the max values here over 4 hours of regular web use and SC2 coop - seeing that 80W maximum makes me happy here, friggin love power efficient CPUs

At 88W a 7700 is not nearly as hot as a 5800X or 5800X3D, although not as amazing as a 5700X. Question is, does PBO + 75C even make sense at this rate? At stock it lands around the 70C mark in all-core, how much extra wattage does one stand to gain from PBO within a 5-10C margin on 1CCD? After 90W temps start to rise sharply.

Obviously, curve optimizer and +200 but I think at this point people generally accept that CO is its own thing.

I set the -20 profile with the +200 override. Will check back in within a day or so.

my CPU would do -5 at +200 and -15 at +0

If you got the time run one of the automated tests like the one in ryzen master and let it get the individual core values, just make sure you have it at the +MHz value you want first (with everything else on auto/defaults)

Thank you for the suggestion i just dont like ryzen master. Always seemed a little scuff to me. Just personal pref

can we expect 7900 x3d reviews at end of this month? do you think they will launch on the 27th? with release date being 28th?

true. i tend to set and forget tho. this not being able to set things myself is going to bug me til new bios is released with the x3d agesa, assuming that update should correct it. One would hope anyway.

Im not even going to bother looking at reviews. Im going to get one and look at A620 boards hopefully we get one in an ITX flavor, ill move the 7700 to my family room rig

this might be a mistake honestly, I am not sure an A620 vrm/mosfet/power delivery will be able to handle a stock 7900 x3d. even if it says it can on the BIOS page, a lot of them cheaper chipsets throttle higher end chips.

asrock steel legend a620 might be the only one to pull it off. or if you can find an MSI one with decent heatsinks.

No no im going to pair the 7700 with it.

I am just hoping some 5800 x3d owners get the itch and upgrade, cause I wouldn't mind upgrading my 5600 to a 5800x3d.
