I think the difference could be in what review is picked as the baseline. This is the one indeed.

Note that relative percentages work differently depending on what your baseline is !
Simple example: if I drive 100% faster than you, you drive only 50% slower than I do.

This trips up so many people. I'm staggered at how many adults regularly fail at grade-school maths. At work I'm explaining this exact topic to correct mistakes on an almost weekly basis :\

I love the YouTube videos where some funny American guys go to US universities and the students there can't even answer a question like:

"If I'm travelling at 60mph, how far will I have travelled in one hour?"

The mental gymnastics that these kids try to pull is nothing short of priceless!

I think that the channel is called "MyWorldIsGettingdumber". Yep, that's it! :D

This is my second AMD Graphic Card. The last one was Radeon HD 5970. If Nvida has struck with 8-pins power delivery I would have got the RTX4090.
I have custom wiring sleeves. Need to purchase a new power supply and re-run the cabling. That's too much an effort. My next build I would do the 16-pin or whatever new standard that is coming.

Ah, I remember that card. The Evergreen Hemlock (which could have also been called the HD 5850x2). I'll never forget Guru3D's review of it and how it "brutally sodomized" the GTX 295. I still chuckle when I think of those words that Hilbert Hagedoorn chose for his review.

There might not be a new standard coming because, as AMD demonstrated, it's not a necessity. Standards only get really adopted if what is currently being used turns out to be incapable. If the RX 7900 XTX doesn't need this new connector, then no card does.

Yeah! I got it because of the review and like the idea of having 2 GPU on one card.

Now I need to be refamiliarise myself with AMD drivers. Hope its will be an overall good experience.

Yup, back in the days of Crossfire and SLI. I ran two XFX HD 4870s and replaced them with two Gigabyte HD 7970s.

I think that you'll be quite happy with them. No having to log in and from what I've been told, Adrenalin gives you much more control over your card than GeForce Experience does. I couldn't tell you for certain because my last GeForce card was a Palit GeForce 8500GT 1GB. Since 2008, I've been all Radeon [HD 4870(x2), HD 7970(x2), R9 Fury(x2), RX 5700 XT, RX 6800 XT].

Adrenalin was a marked improvement over Crimson which itself was a marked improvement over Catalyst. I find that it's very intuitive and I have no problems with them. As I said though, take my opinion with a grain of salt because I don't use nVidia so I can only tell you half of the story.

I use both, as I have PCs both with Radeon and GeForce cards.

Nvidia's driver is fine if you want something that just works. You only need an online login for GeForce Experience which you don't need to install if you don't want its extra features (like Ansel or game tuning). The interface of the base driver is Windows 95 level simple (it looks like it's from that era, too), everything is right in front you, but you don't have much control over the card.

AMD's driver gives you a lot more control (like overclocking and fan tuning), it doesn't need an online login, and the UI is more in line with 2023 looks and feels. On the negative side, it's a bit harder to navigate.

It's a matter of what you want, and what you like, I guess.

The temperature control options AMD has is one area Nvidia is lacking that leather jacket man should really address.

Thanks for that. I really didn't know what nVidia's software is like these days but if the UI looks like Win95, then it sounds like it hasn't changed at all since I used it with my 8500 GT.

I'm pretty neutral about it. Sure, the Adrenalin software LOOKS better but that's not a big deal for me as long as it works. The extra customization available with Adrenalin is a positive but I don't use it much and I'm pretty sure that most other people don't use it much either. :D

Well, if you mean overclocking, undervolting, fan curve adjustments, power limits, etc. then I'm pretty sure a lot of people use it. ;) I don't, because I have a reference card, but that's besides the point.

I would expect that the vast majority of people who care about those things will be using Afterburner anyway. I wouldn't stop using it even if NVIDIA changed the software.

Yeah, it looks ancient, but it works and everyone knows exactly where everything is. I like the simplicity. It's also one of the main reasons why MPC-HC is my favorite video player.

I like simplicity myself - that's why I don't see a point in installing an extra program when the driver comes with everything I need. But each to their own. :)

Just FYI - The AMD driver doesn't even contain a control panel. What you like so much is the Adrenalin software suite. It's analogous to what GeForce Experience is: an optional part of the driver install package.

True, but it does require you to uncheck 'share my usage with AMD'

Every. Single. Time.

Doesn't have anything to do with the fact it's not part of the drivers.

You mean "Issue detection"? Because I can't find that option you mentioned.

But anyway, a driver doesn't have to have an interface to perform it's main function, so nV Control panel is just extra by that logic.

No, not issue detection.

You must use the driver auto-update feature from inside Adrenalin. Downloading the driver package from AMD, the last screen when the install completes has an option pre-selected to share usage with AMD. You have to uncheck it, otherwise closing the last screen defaults to share usage.

I don't really care if it's extra or not, or any logic behind it. I was replying to another poster who claimed all the tools were part of the driver.

I like simplicity myself - that's why I don't see a point in installing an extra program when the driver comes with everything I need. But each to their own. :)

Does Adrenalin come with an in-game overlay as robust as Afterburner's?

What about framerate limiter? RTSS' limiter offers a pretty much perfect frametime. No in-game limiter comes close, not even NVIDIA's driver limiter.

Those are serious questions.

I don't know because I don't like in-game overlays. I have a 7" secondary screen that has Windows Task Manager and GPU-Z running.

AMD's frame rate limiter works pretty well in my experience. Better than Radeon Chill.

These are serious answers.

Just FYI - The AMD driver doesn't even contain a control panel. What you like so much is the Adrenalin software suite. It's analogous to what GeForce Experience is: an optional part of the driver install package.
Nvidia has two different pieces of software to do similar things, while AMD has one. Sure, you can look at it as optional, but why would you?

Well, if you mean overclocking, undervolting, fan curve adjustments, power limits, etc. then I'm pretty sure a lot of people use it. ;) I don't, because I have a reference card, but that's besides the point.
I was using the "most other people" in the relative sense (as in, more than half). It also depends on one's definition of "a lot". My expectation is that less than 1% of people overclock their cards because less than 1% of people actually know how. It's not nearly as straightforward a task as overclocking a CPU and I wouldn't expect that many people would be comfortable messing with their video card's BIOS, especially knowing that it would void the warranty if the vendor ever found out. I undervolted my RX 5700 XT for mining with it but I wasn't about to touch the BIOS in my RX 6800 XT and just used it stock with the fans set to a constant 100%.

I personally agree with you that there are quite a number of people who routinely do this but I'm sure that you'd agree that they're a tiny minority. :D
