I wonder if this is related to white 1 pixel width line I get under "[Search | Copy]" box, after selecting section of text in Opera browser (side note : I currently have RX 570 GPU installed).

View attachment 285460

This is at 1080p resolution on native 4k screen (no scaling on Windows side, Opera window zoom [+175%]).
Also, this line doesn't exists on screenshots I take - sounds familiar ?

Honestly, I don't really care either way, since this is basicly near invisible to me at the distance I view things from.
But I still wanted to point it out a possible clue on Office problem.
I've seen this in edge recently, but i couldnt reproduce it
The line underneath the one with the spellcheck suggestion had an artifacted duplicate of the red-line

I had my text glitching out or becoming invisible while typing on word/outlook and windows mail app. It would flicker in and out when editing existing sentences, and if I typed longer sentences sections of my paragraphs would become invisible until I pressed space multiple times to re-render the previous text.

Stumbled across this thread while googling for solutions, and for me my issue disappeared by manually updating office by clicking account>update options>update now into a system restart.

I always had the "disable unnecessary animations" checked in control panel, and the disabling connected experiences workaround was not an option since I use onedrive. Variable refresh rate and optimization for windowed games was always enabled for me. Never had an option to disable hw acceleration for office apps so I didn't do anything with that. MPO disabled.

I also remember seeing someone mentioning that the power button option icons in win11 were glitching out when hovered on their 6800xt, I had the same issue too but that also appears to be gone after I updated office and restarted.

I will update if the issue returns, but for the past hour of editing and whatnot I have not run into any noticeable text issues across my programs.

My system config:
5900x
6800xt on latest driver (23.2.2)
lg 27gp850-b @180hz and nzxt 27q @165hz freesync enabled for both with vesa certified dp1.4 cables

Hi,

Try to install older Radeon driver: whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-22.3.1-win10-win11-march17. For me (RX6600) it works. No glitches in office and power button.

As mentioned above in my first comment, I fixed my issue updating office and restarting my pc. No gpu driver rollback was needed for me.

Hello all. I've been following this thread for some time as I too have the issues. I replaced my 6700XT with a new 4070ti on Monday, and wanted to report that I have had zero issues since the upgrade. Maybe it's something to do with the nVidia driver version (528.24), or maybe it's just the new hardware. Since this seems to only affect those of us running dedicated GPUs, I also wanted to ask if anyone has the issue with stock settings on their GPU (no OC) - could it be a VRAM issue? I haven't tested extensively, but wanted to throw my experience into the pot in case it helps.

could it be a VRAM issue
Yes this could be a VRAM clock issue in theory. Why: As soon as there is some load on the GPU+VRAM the glitch isn't reproducible. It only appears when idling. Some say that VRAM clocked too low can cause issues. Nvidia apparently never really looked into this Office 365 issue even though we gave drivers feedback and feedback on their forums. Standard answer: Microsofts problem.

As a follow up to my original post, it's been nearly 2 weeks and I have yet to experience any further glitches in Office applications. I've been working non-stop on updating documentation in both Word and Excel, so I expect I would be aware if the glitch had resurfaced. I wish I could offer more details, but all I can say for sure is that the video card switch seems to have resolved the issue. Since others here have commented on the issue being present on both NVidia and AMD cards, I doubt it was driver related or fixed by a Windows update, as it would have magically solved the issue for others as well.

One thing I'd like to recommend is that if you do OC your graphics card - specifically using MSI Afterburner - try using the curve editor to set a flat line at the expected peak voltage / GPU frequency. This may eliminate any fluctuations that could cause the issue to manifest. I was unable to do this with my old AMD card - MSI just wouldn't work right - but I've done so with the new 4070ti and haven't had any issues.

I can’t refer to your finding. I did a complete system switch from an 12900k with rtx 3080 to an 13900k with rtx 4090 and the issue is still there.

Nuts! Do you happen to know if you have multiplane overlay (MPO) enabled or no?
I have not such a registry entry so I assume the MPO not beeing enabled.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are the only programs having these issues. All other thing like 3d rendering software, games, browser and so on have no issues.

I've had this problem with Office 365 for about 1.5 years now. I'm on Win 11 with an AMD Radeon 6800 XT. For me the problems started with AMD driver 22.7.1, a driver which unlocked a lot of extra performance in many games. I've since tried every registry hack suggested, including all posted in this thread, but to no avail. The only reliable solution for my is going back to AMD driver 22.5.1 - but since I'm using my PC both for work and gaming that's a difficult choice. I've posted numerous bug reports both to Microsoft and AMD ...

For me it mostly starts after Outlook has been running in the background for some time. At first there are only display errors when hovering over buttons, where it looks like buffered graphical data is randomly overlayed instead of the correct image - I can live with that. But then while typing, words or whole lines get corrupted or disappear only to reappear when moving the cursor around which is extremely annoying and leads to many editing errors. It also happens frequently in Word and OneNote. I'm using a lot of applications, including graphics, audio and video software which make use of hardware acceleration and the only software affected is Office 365 (both 32 bit and 64 bit).

MPO is enabled by default. Adding the described key disables it. Give it a try.

April Update:

We continue to live in the Twilight Zone! This situation would seem to be impossible and incomprehensible, yet we continue to endure the reality. Fact: since September of last year, for those of us with a Windows 10/11 computer and a recent graphics card, Microsoft Office remains unusable. And STILL Microsoft is unaware.

I just called Microsoft again (for like the two-dozenth time), and the representative of course had no clue what I was talking about. He then proceeded to suggest the same idiotic advice as always: repair/reinstall Office, run sfc /scannow and DISM, try various Windows and Office settings, even reinstall Windows... none of which, as we all know, has any impact on this bug. (Pity the poor soul who trusts the rep and follows this advice.) This is so maddening! How can this pathetic situation exist? After eight months?!

Meanwhile, Microsoft proudly celebrates their announcements of countless new advanced Office features, even AI features like Copilot. And all the while, the product remains unusable for the basic task of entering and editing text! Updates to Windows and Office come and go, and never is this bug addressed. Microsoft apparently still has no awareness it even exists! Arggghhh!

We can tell ourselves that this bug will someday be fixed, perhaps by next year. Or maybe even by October of 2024 if indeed Windows 12 is released at that time. Or maybe (I am beginning to wonder) it will NEVER be fixed. Maybe many more updates of Windows and Office will come and go, and still Office will remain unusable... perhaps for years to come. Could that be possible?

As always... if anyone has any constructive ideas on what can be done to make Microsoft aware of this disastrous and ongoing bug, please post. Thank you.

Benchmark Scores I have wrestled bandwidths, Tussled with voltages, Handcuffed Overclocks, Thrown Gigahertz in Jail
i've also experienced weird anamolies with 365, esp word and outlook but never in excel. These are minor hiccups in tiny portions so now i just ignore them. They come and go. At the moment its going great but they do appear occasionally but not disruptive enough for me to consider a windows reinstall. Actually i'm looking to upgrade soon, hence the laziness. I don't have this problem with my 7700K+1080 ti build (same 365 subscription), it occasionally occurs on the 9700K+2080 TI build. Maybe its Ray Tracing, shining bright lights through the letters/objects lol but it doesn't explain duplicated lines or sometimes its almost as if there's a second layer below the page with foreign markings.

If it helps: My office package runs everything at default. No foreign texts imported. No changes to any setting other than some standard personalisation with outlook. No external API/sync settings or external plug-in/add-ons. Everything is polished up with the latest drivers/updates directly from the official source: 365, OS, GPU, peripherals, etc. Other things i've tried: 365 re-installation, temporarily uninstalled logitechs HUB + NZXTs CAM + anti-virus application with no success. The only change on my system: CPU overclocked, memory OC'd via XMP at the rated spec and GPU left at stock. I haven't reverted back to stock for any of these settings in BIOS as i didn't feel it was linked.

Left this for last: I have a weird feeling it might be my printer driver. Reason being, when the problem occured last nothing was displayed in print preview (word) other than a vertical line on the left. I'm waiting for the mish-mash to return again and hopefully in time i'll uninstall the printer and see if it helps.

@Chris85, i am curious- if your issue lingers i wander if you could try the printer uninstall method and see if it makes a difference. I don't even know if the printer/driver would have any link to this type of problem but you never know (printer AIs playing gangster maybe?)

Just wait some days or weeks. They will be back again. I also had the hope several times ago when those glitches disappeared but they always came back…

The glitches reappeared after several fresh installations of windows 10 or 11 without having any printer drivers installed. So unfortunately for me this does not the trick :/

Print preview bugs out sometimes, it's life. It has nothing to do with the graphical artifacting. You can have Print Spooler disabled 24/7 like I do and see for yourself.

It has been months. I've had my 4070 Ti since the end of January. The only other thing that I can think of is that I am now also running Win11 Pro - previously I had always been on Home for 7, 10 and 11.

Do you use any MPO-related features? Windowed VRR in Windows? What's your Windows graphics settings page look like

MPO is often murky as to what it does/how it works, I'd pull out all the stops - turn off the related Windows graphics settings, clean install Nvcleanstall with disable MPO flag, and then do the registry edit on top to remove it from the equation.

While I don't have it in Office anymore, the Chrome address bar has decided to take up the mantle......I have a feeling it's Windows-wide. Maybe in combination with >100% scaling.

Benchmark Scores I have wrestled bandwidths, Tussled with voltages, Handcuffed Overclocks, Thrown Gigahertz in Jail
The glitches reappeared after several fresh installations of windows 10 or 11 without having any printer drivers installed. So unfortunately for me this does not the trick :/

that irons out the printer possibility... i thought i was on to something, a potential saviour for mankind (for the first time) lol

Print preview bugs out sometimes, it's life. It has nothing to do with the graphical artifacting. You can have Print Spooler disabled 24/7 like I do and see for yourself.

Not really familiar with some of these settings. If i disabled the spooler would that effect the print order? Its a single user printer so multiple user print requests are not a concern.

It's not a problem with printer drivers, Windows instalations, MPO and so on. It's something to do with GPU power saving - turn on Furmark in the background and there will be no glitches in the Office apps.

Also don't waste time on reinstalling Windows, it doesn't help at all.

There might be a very promising fix I didn't think of in the beginning but one in our Reddit thread did:

Assigning specific cores via
  • Start OneNote / Word / Outlook (using OneNote in this example)
  • Windows Taskmanager => "Details" tab
  • Right clicking "ONENOTE.EXE" selecting "Set Affinity"
  • Assigning one or a few cores (0,1,2,4) and confirm
Doing this all my glitching goes away instantly. I will do further tests during the next days.

I really hope you can reproduce this, very curious!
