how can I force my 6600 to not save energy and be used as much as possible by the game?

I already used MPT to disable the "DS".
As well as the driver to specify a minimum frequency,
but even like that, in some places of the map I lose fps and the game becomes loosy

In Dirt4 I get frame drops every second or so and the way I solved it was just by turning on the Xbox game bar (WinKey+G). Try that.

I have a PowerColor Radeon RX 6900 XT Red Devil (AXRX 6900XT 16GBD6-3DHE/OC) converted to water cooling in my PC.
Does anyone know where I can find a description of which thermal pads (thickness, dimensions, position) I need if I want to reinstall the original air cooler.
Preferably with pictures if there is such a thing.

Sometimes you can get no info. Maybe look for reviews some will list that. If you are really stuck then eyeball it.

It appears to be the same PCB at least (place for the 3rd 8-pin PCIe connection). I've never disassembled my RD 6900XT, but I would imagine it's the same. I believe they have the same power requirement/limits between the 6800XT and 6900XT.

I've got a weird idea of swapping my 6750 XT out with the 6500 XT from my HTPC for some testing. When the card came out, everybody criticised it for the lack of VRAM, thus having to swap a lot of data from the slower system memory. The thing is, TPU's test was done on a 5800X with 4000 MHz memory. That's 64 GB/s which is quite slow compared to the card's 144 GB/s VRAM. Now, I've got a 7700X system with 6000 MHz RAM. That's 96 GB/s, which is a lot closer to what the card has.

So what I'm expecting is either
1. Running out of on-board VRAM will be less noticeable than in the review due to higher shared VRAM bandwidth available, or
2. The card will do just as poorly due to swapping all that data over the PCI-e 4.0 x4 bus (which allows roughly 8 GT/s).

What do you guys think?

if it can't load enough textures into VRam you'll get one of 3 things happen
1: The game will crash
2: The textures won't load properly in game and look flat shit until they do load (take a look at the Hardware unboxed is 8GB Vram enough video)
3: you'll huge frame time spikes and low frame rates leading to an unpleasant play time (see the HUB video above)

Just ran some tests - the card is just as good/bad (depending on game and personal perspective) as in my i7-11700 system with DDR4. The x4 bus seems to be the limiting factor in VRAM-limited situations.

Edit: Fun fact that my 6750 XT consumes less power in Kingdom Come: Deliverance than the 6500 XT when both are limited to 60 FPS.

Finally enabled REBAR after picking up my 6700XT July last year. It required me updating the bios on my Z370-F

Unironically. I got trolled by Asus. Because last time i updated my bios, I lost all my OC settings and didnt back them up....

This time I thought id be smart and back up all my settings with the asus tool they have in the bios. Backed it all up. Updated bios then tried to load old OC profile.

And it wouldnt fucking work because it seems that the old backups only work for the same version of the bios that was used to back it up with.

So on one hand I now have Rebar. On the other i have stock 8600k small pee pee clocks and its annoying because im going to have to spend 3-4hrs dialing and tuning this thing AGAIN. wefpo'jwedf'iopjfo

That's why you always take screenshots of the BIOS settings. Even if the OC profile can be loaded from backup, I'd always be paranoid about it not applying everything properly.

I know man. I assumed features like that would work regardless of bios versions and im mad at myself because I had this 8600k at 4.7ghz once upon a time but lost all my settings the first time when i didnt back anything up and after the update I could never reach the same clocks again.

Yeah, I totally get that. Been there and done that. Don't beat yourself up over it too much.

As I've gotten older I've lost the desire to spend hours/days/weeks tuning and tweaking. Now BIOS updates and all that goes along with them has turned into a have to/need to rather than something I used to look forward to. (part of the reason I went back to intel - fewer updates)

Now it's a quick tune and I'm done.

I'd bet you'll be back at 4.7 soon enough though.

And take these pics with your phone instead of the BIOS screenshot tool. I assumed all the pics I took was saved to my Seagate 3tb BUP Hub but nooooo, I had the good God damned sense to format that 3 TERABYTE drive to GPT and NTFS instead of losing a terabyte to FAT32 with an MBR ...

Its going to be pain. apart from adding extra voltage and increasing the multiplier, Ive forgotten how to OC coffee lake chips. Once i had 4.7 down. I never needed to touch it again. going to have to read a few guides before bed.

Reviewers usually use the same stable of Games but you can expect newer (Console Ports esp.) to eat more RAM. They are designed naturally for 16GB frame buffers. There are Games like Everspace 2 that drive your cards to the max as well. What I love about AMD past 6000 series is the consistent clocks that are provided. That could also be a part of it though as the PS5 and Xbox should have the same behaviour and that could also make VRAM even more important.

For me the clockspeeds on the 6500XT is what mitigates the Vram Buffer at 1080P (only). Admittedly I have not touched my HTPC since I got my new rig so I will have to get around to testing my 6500XT. The thing is also that newer CPUs do push GPUs harder. In every Game my CPU drives about 2-3 more GB of VRAM usage. I do play at 4K on a 144Hz panel though. Even when I go 1440P I see the same behaviour though.

When I built my first rig in years, I decided that vanilla performance was enough for me. The only tweaks I make are to hide Gigabyte's low-res BIOS logo, enable virtualization and enable Secure Boot. No complaints so far, the stock 6950 XT blazes through anything and everything (alongside the 7700X).

Maybe 5-7 years down the track I might be forced to tweak but for now I'll enjoy being lazy.

If you look in your Device Manager, you might see "Device Firmware" twice. That's how Windows is able to tell if a BIOS flash happened. The the lockout only happens to me because I sign into Windows 11 with my Microsoft account. I have to. My license is a digital license. But all I got to do confirm my identity is confirm the backup email address I use for password resets, and it'll send a code there. I'll get the code via notification on my phone and once inputted, I'm prompted to register a new PIN number and that's it ...

It's just as likely, if not more likely, because it snuck Secure Boot to disabled.
