Windows 11 still has better thread scheduling and even if you went to a 13900K you'd also want to be on 11...... I'm just saying to verify it's not a specific to W10 issue more than you switching over if you want to stay on 10 that's fine.

Oh yeah, the 13900k deffo warrents win11... but that's also a big / little core cpu - a fair bit more complex than the 7800x3d in terms of threading. The 7800x3d SHOULD be straight forward like any other 8 core single ccx cpu.

I agree it shouldn't be an issue but if it was me I would at least verify locally on my hardware.

@W1zzard Said in the review that the fps went from 190 to 215 - so not double the performance, but still fairly substantial.

I do have a spare drive, but i really do not want to use win11 - and honestly, it's just a straight forward single ccx cpu, it shouldn't require any specific os to run properly. And i don't think it does either, when amd sorts out their buggy software.

By engine detection problem, do you mean that the game has issues detecting the cpu and how to handle it correctly, or ?

But yes, it does seem like it's the exact same issue to varying degrees in all games.
Refusal to try Windows 11 means you're unwilling to try and resolve the issue. You already re-installed 10 and it made no difference. Test 11, that's the next logical step in the process, if you don't want to that's fine, just keep beating your head against a brick wall.

I know when I had a very odd issue years ago with video drivers not installing when I was built a new system, I tested out multiple OSes, multiple GPUs and multiple drivers for all GPUs on each OS I tested. The same result presented itself across all tests I did and only then did I start looking at it being hardware issue.

@phanbuey i tried that fix for cyberpunk, and it does indeed seem to resolve the issue... in that game at least.

I'm glad this thread and thread likes these exist if I ever pick up this cpu all you beta testers will have it ironed out.. :toast:

Shame you have to go through all these hoops to get it working properly.

Yeah, i certainly do feel like a beta tester atm !

Quite honestly the worst experience i've ever had with a new cpu - intel has always been plug and play for me, no issues what so ever. Last amd cpu i had was an athlon 20 years ago, so not really representative.

Yeah the only Intel cpu I remember being janky for me was my 5820k but that platform was also the first consumer one to support DDR4...... I think the first couple months was rough for 12th gen as well.

I honestly haven't had any issues with Ryzen either though but it still seems to be more prevalent for people than with Intel. I did two 7700X builds near launch for people and honestly they both have been great.

It does seem that the problem is not with AMD software or hardware but with the game engine itself though? The game is not designed to work with CPUs that are new to it, so it behaves unexpectedly.

It would be really curious if you tried W11 just to let us know if that solved all these issues for you.
In case you hate W11 because of TPM requirement, or because of local account restriction or anything like that - Rufus tools (the software used to burn .iso unto an USB flash to make it bootable) offers disabling these, and many more things, when burning W11 .iso. I used W11 .iso directly from Microsoft with Rufus and it worked perfectly. W11 worked even with TPM disabled in BIOS.

Other 7800x3d owners are welcome to chime in, and do the w11 testing. I am not going win11 for alot of reasons - some of which you mentioned, but many more (not going to elaborate on it) :)

As for who's fault it is that basically all games can't properly use a fairly simple 8 core cpu out of the box... i can't see how the ball WOULDN't be on amds half in regards to that. It's not a single game we are talking about, but practically all games. Quite likely their win10 drivers are quite a bit undercooked...

posted for the core usage.

Right, but still not really relevant for this particular thread :)

Regardless, you gotta remove the gpu bottleneck if you wanna show thread usage.

The idea was that the game is using all threads even when GPU bottlenecked.
Here you go , not GPU limited, still using all the cores, drops to fewer in some scenarios but in general the game seems to be using all of them at the same time.

Yeah, like my 11700f did out of the box, and how my 7800x3d does now after the fix was applied.

Now the issue is that nearly all other games show the same threading issue as cyberpunk had prior to the fix (as can be seen on the previous page).

Not that it's overly helpful but here is how my 5950X behaves in the market area both ultra with and without RT made sure it was cpu limited in both scenarios.

Screenshot (147).pngScreenshot (148).png

The cpu gives me the performance I want and is super smooth so never really cared much to look at this but it's interesting I guess.

I think it has to do with smt detection at the engine level... are there INF files you can edit to force 16T?

Have you tried forcing affinity through something like process lasso? (you can also disable SMT through this)

And my previous 11700f was 16T aswell, with no issues... so seems odd that it should be the game engines that are at fault.

it's definitely and odd issue I am seeing 19 threads decently loaded which means it is using both CCD on my 5950X in CP2077

It's specific to your system, it's not detecting the CPU / recognizing the CPU signature properly for some reason, that's why it's happening in all games. But it's something that used to happen to the 3xxx series from time to time. It's definitely looking like a software issue imo, which is good. Maybe a kernel/windows level fix -- whatver it is, once you find it will fix it for all your games.

it's promising to see that forcing CP manually to use the CPU works. just points at it being a windows issue.

When you launch a game -- the game gets data from the OS via (kernel, directX api etc.) to figure out how many threads to launch, etc. Seems like that piece of it is not working, and if you override and force the engine to 16T it works fine.

it's likely not the games -- since those are pretty canned... it's definitely not the hardware, that's working. So it has to be the API layer between the game and the OS or the OS configuration itself.

Sorta specific to my system, as other people have reported having the same issue in this thread :)

But yeah, im still leaning towards undercooked win10 drivers.

Interesting that it spreads the load out so much - i would have thought it would have wanted to keep the load on a single ccx. But impressive fps ! I wonder how it would look like if you used that cyberpunk fix aswell.

Interesting that it spreads the load out so much - i would have thought it would have wanted to keep the load on a single ccx. But impressive fps !

That is honestly what I was expecting to see as well. Not that my results are all that useful other than to verify CP2077 using more than 16 threads on a Ryzen system. Honestly W1z getting it to use a ton of threads on his 13900KS is what prompted me to want to see.
