Really anything and everything can end up being an addiction whether it be Funko Pops, Swiss watches, designer footwear, whatever.
But concerning this title, the difference between $50 and $70 is minimal and wouldn't be a ongoing repeat expense. You buy the remake game once. It doesn't even have DLC to my knowledge and it doesn't appear to have in-game microtransactions. It's a sunk cost when you get to the setup menu.
Anyhow, I enjoyed the original game (which I purchased deeply discounted) and I'll eventually buy the remake (also likely at a deep discount).
I have plenty of other games to play in my library and I don't actually don't spend much time playing games. No rush for me to pick this one up. Sadly, it appears that the developer has moved on, the game's current performance quirks will remain forever.
