Really anything and everything can end up being an addiction whether it be Funko Pops, Swiss watches, designer footwear, whatever.

But concerning this title, the difference between $50 and $70 is minimal and wouldn't be a ongoing repeat expense. You buy the remake game once. It doesn't even have DLC to my knowledge and it doesn't appear to have in-game microtransactions. It's a sunk cost when you get to the setup menu.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the original game (which I purchased deeply discounted) and I'll eventually buy the remake (also likely at a deep discount).

I have plenty of other games to play in my library and I don't actually don't spend much time playing games. No rush for me to pick this one up. Sadly, it appears that the developer has moved on, the game's current performance quirks will remain forever.

I was referring more to the mindset of those that become obsessed with certain games, not just this title. You can say it's just a "one time purchase", but for many it applies to pretty much every game they become obsessed with. As for one times though, game figurines, Swiss Watches a pair of shows, those ALL last longer than the time most play and have on their drive one title.

Your last sentence makes it clear you are NOT of the obsessed group, besides, you also said you don't happen to feel full price for a remake is reasonable, and would rather wait, so we're mostly in agreement here.

Fantastic remake, in fact its probably my favorite remake hands down. All the changes I have seen so far in it (Minus 1) have enhanced the original game while keeping the original story intact. I love the fact there are no levels anymore and the game is never paused. You can also visit any area at anytime (After you unlock them), the weapons have all been tweaked in some way and make them all useful, the upgrade system has been tweaked to be more useful, and the graphics are fantastic.

Now I am a huge fan of the Dead Space series so I am a bit biased. However, I think the remake is so good it almost makes playing the original irrelevant.

Let me guess, would that minus 1 be having used Gunner Wright the voice actor as Isaac's likeness? So far that is the only thing I've seen I haven't liked.

Ok minus 2 LOL. I mean I didn't hate the actor but I did like the old look a little better personally. My minus 1 was the fact that I felt a couple of the characters got sidelined in the game like how Hammond barely shows up in it/talks and Kyne shows up for like 5 seconds this round. They wanted to focus more on Kendra, Isaac, and Mercer which I found ok but I felt like the others barely got any time at all compared to the original game.

OK, thanks, I hadn't heard anyone talk about that, but I see your point.

I was not in a hurry to pick this game back in 2023, because from what i've seen then the remake was very faithful and similar to the original, therefore it did not have that "new totally revamped game hype" that came with Resident Evil 4 Remake and recently Silent Hill 2 Remake, but the remake of Dead Space was needed non the less! The most important reason, in my opinion, for this remake to exist is the added voice over for Isaak Clarke! It was a huge mistake to make the main game protagonist mute in the first place, as that really did not fit his character. In general i am absolutely sick of characters who do not speak in video games for any obvious reason. I can forgive this issue in games like STALKER, because there is a text, through which the protagonist speaks, so it is assumed the protagonist is not mute. Dead Space 2 & 3 showed that Isaak Clarke is actually quite a charming personality, and that made the original Dead Space feel so out of tune with the rest of the games.

Now I am a huge fan of the Dead Space series so I am a bit biased. However, I think the remake is so good it almost makes playing the original irrelevant.

Same here. There is no reason for me to ever return to the original Dead Space, because i can not stand a speechless Isaak Clarke. Improved graphics, extended level design, improved responsiveness are secondary "feats", but overall needed too. The one thing most people don't notice is how this remake makes the controls way smoother and more responsive. Original Dead Space was clunky, and very often i had trouble shooting monsters in time - it almost felt like the game is too slow for what i actually can do with my human reaction time, and it had nothing to do with input lag, it was about shity PC port and how it felt too ''consolised''. This Dead Space Remake feels surprisingly smooth, i never have trouble evading monsters and shooting them in time. To add more - the same difficulty level of this remake feels more easy when compared to the original game. If you die in this game it is most likely because of your stupidity interacting with a hazardous object in "incorrect time", but not because you are getting overwhelmed by monsters. The only issue i had was the ragdoll physics - that felt outdated, monsters were constantly getting stuck in the walls and the animation of the deceased did not feel realistic.
Biggest takeaway of Dead Space Remake is that it's on Steam, and not on that POS EA app.

This is a 9/10 for me. I wish they would release a totally new Dead Space game based on the comic books. We don't need a remake of Dead Space 2 & 3. I actually really liked Dead Space 3 the way it was.

Much of that was due to them not even giving the PC version a proper keyboard and mouse control scheme. You could tell because when using mouse the aim was very sluggish pointing at anything center screen, and very squirrelly when aiming anywhere near the edge of the screen. This of course is because gamepad control schemes use a dead zone for the toggle recentering feature, which mice don't need.

It's why I went into the files and edited Max Mouse Sensitivity to be WAY higher than the default. It made it so you could at least turn around quicker and aim center screen quicker, but you don't dare aim at anything near the edge of screen, because it was even more squirrelly. I had my mouse sensitivity set so high in the files that it made the slide bar in the mouse sensitivity menu in game far exceed the width of the graph.

Let's talk about a current unresolved issue with Dead Space Remake - what the fuck is wrong with the audio in this game? I am getting constant audio glitching, or in technical terms "clipping" noises. This has nothing to do with my hardware for i have experienced these audio interference spikes with different audio hardware (internal Realtek and external SSL 2).

I have changed many things to no avail:

1. Different audio hardware - no effect.
2. Changed sample rate from 48 kHz/24-bit to 44 kHz/16-bit - no effect.
3. Windows spatial sound turned ON/OFF - no effect.
4. In game vsync ON/OFF - no effect.
5. AMD freesync ON/OFF - no effect.
6. AMD input lag ON/OFF - no effect.
7. FPS limiter ON/OFF - no effect.

This probably should be discussed in proper Dead Space forums, but i will leave this problem here anyway to discuss.

dont remember why, but never played the OG.
i dont mind game "refreshs", gotten NFS and Burnout as "premium" ones for 10$ each, but it would have to be something like AC or pinball from PS as a "21st century" version,
before i would shell out more than that.

@GamerGuy
except +80% of those that constantly feel the need to use the word "woke", dont know its actual meaning.
no one is going to say its a bad idea, to not be woke, when driving a car.
ignoring that a lot of the ppl that say are for freedom of speech/everyone should be able to do what they want, are happy, until "they" dont like what "you" are doing.

@Frag_Maniac
and many throw money at stuff (incl games) without being obsessed like an addict to their "drug" (of choice).
since i now work mainly on 24h call with time to waste i tried a couple of mobile games over the years, and some of the top ppl were spending 1-3K/month on the game,
because they had time to play (even at work), and the income to be able to afford it (e.g. enough for food/bills and "flowers" for their partner).
sure, not gonna be the majority, but so far with all the folks i gotten to know since HS, a handful died because of alcohol/hard illegal drugs, and not because of excessive gaming in any form.
