open File Explorer (explorer.exe) and check if there are any files stored in the C:\Program Data\Creative\SoftwareLock folder
the X-FI MB5 app won't work correctly (or won't recognize your onboard realtek audio device) if there are no files there or if that Creative "SoftwareLock" folder does not exist

@mccg35, I can see you have an ALC 256 (most likely) from the first image. And from what I can see it looks like you did not fully remove the existing driver and related extensions before installing.
It think it should say 'AAF' or similar (not sure what Alan calls it now) opposed to 'Realtek(R) Audio', I can also see the installed driver matches the OEM version.

This is why none of the apps are working, because the driver and related files are not installed or are replaced by the OEM files and config.
Alans extension files will setup APO keys at certain points, even if the files are installed, this config can be replaced.



You may need to disable Windows driver updates, same in other apps such as OEM update software.

dude i got a z590 board asus with alc 4082 codec and ESS® SABRE9018Q2C DAC/AMP and this dont work at all it says selected audio device is disabled i had a z190 board before and i was able to install the mb5 without problem but this thing never works,formatiing windows reinstalling from zero and nothing works always says audio device disabled besides nobody understand what Use "/RegisterSKU" argument to execute KGA Config in Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 installer means you nned to explain if this pack works on all the boards with usb realtek codec or if some boards are not listed and never gonna work with those

Unfortunately, I don't have a platform with a Realtek audio chip based on the USB enumerator to perform deeper tests.

You're right. I will have to remove support for USB so as not to cause further inconvenience. They must have some peculiarity regarding the configuration of APOs that I don't know about.

Yes they do, also different API, you also wont find as many supported APO's in USB, only what's supported since release. Many APO systems will read HDAUDIO to run.

@AAF Optimus, some tips:

Lets say I installed a virtual endpoint, its registry and data will point to ROOT and not HDAUDIO, therefor an APO written to read HDAUDIO will not run.

Here is a normal (unused) HDAUDIO endpoint in registry, in cases of USB-Other, the data will not be HDAUDIO.



However, changing the data from ROOT (other) to HDAUDIO, and then cloning the last key from a real HDAUDIO device, you can unlock most APO's.
Lets take DTS:X Ultra (APO4) as an example, it reads HDAUDIO, given changes to ROOT (other), it will run as normal on USB-Other.



PCM is PCM so don't worry about processing, or form factor.

So I'm having an issue where the first reboot after install sound works.... Then after next reboot, I get no output from my speakers. I have a Realtek® ALC892/ALC897 Codec on my MSI B550- Pro MB, I can repeat this process and have left days in between restarts with it working fine on first reboot after install. I have used DDU and DriverStoreExplorer to remove all prior Audio Drivers. Now I have got this working flawlessly on 4 other machines, just not my main. I have tried Safe mode, Unsigned driver boot, it always results in uninstall the package, reboot, re-install, sound works fine first boot after then again no sound, I have tried making sure its not the 7.1 Speakers I have, and again works fine when I configure on first boot, even leaving at 2.0 Speakers changes nothing, even after multiple reboots and making sure no other drivers are interfering. Any ideas on what's going on?

As an update I'm trying disabling driver updates via windows through GP editor make sure its not causing issues with other drivers being pulled down, will edit and update as tested.

Updated** still having issue after second reboot of no audio output but shows device working in device manager.

A question about audio, i have Edifier R1280Ts, it has two RCA input (or output i never remember how audio calls input/output ) so we can have two PC (or other) connected to it.

I playes Assassin Creed Origins and Odyssey (same engine), this two had a strange noise in audio, like async and verry low quality DUP, but much audible in the menu, later i found unplugging the second PC (is OFF) RCAs fixed that.

So that's not like if i had two entries, since when the two are connected it's not good !!

Update 2 *** So i have done a fresh install of windows 11 22H2 Moment 3, and still get the same issue where it works on first reboot, but after i get no sound output until i change the driver to the MS one, uninstall restart and reinstall restart, works for the boot then after nothing again and repeat process. Seems rather odd since i have it working on 4 other machines in the house and have setup some of my family and friends with this working just fine. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Sounds like an OEM (not generic) configuration, the ALC892/ALC897 combo might not support EFX processing, or other reasons. Could be because of the combo ALC (including circuit).

Hello all,

My apologies, but I am kind of confused on installing this driver set and I am hoping someone can clarify some things for me.

I am using Windows 11 Pro and have an Asus TUF Gaming X670E-Plus Wifi which has the "Realtek S1220A 7.1 Surround Sound High Definition Audio CODEC". I am using my Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra speakers connected to the green, orange, and black 3.5 jacks (appropriately).

I uninstalled my older driver and DTS and then used Driver Store and removed all the files as directed. I then installed AAFOptimusDCHAudioPack-USB2355-HDA9499. When I rebooted, the speaker out was set to AAF DCH Optimus Audio, but I had no sound and I could not select 5.1 surround. It stayed on Stereo. I turned off Audio Enhancements (was set to Device Default Effects) and Spatial audio (was set to DTS:X Ultra). Once those were off, I had audio and could select 5.1 surround. Is this normal?

When I installed the audio driver pack, I left the default install settings checked. I noticed that the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 was not installed though. So, I installed the AAFSBXFiMB5Setup and after rebooting, the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 was there. However, when I started it, it said that there was no device present. So, I then ran the KGA.Automation.Config.exe and it created somethings, but I got the same no device error. I don't understand how to run the argument as I do not have an open in terminal option on my right click menu.

When I test the 5.1 surround in the realtek audio control, all the sounds come from the correct speakers (except the subwoofer, that seems to be coming from the two front channels). However, it does not seem like surround sound is work in movies or test audio. I plays a 5.1 surround audio test video and the left front, center, and right front all seem to work correct, but the back surrounds are playing on the respective front speakers. My surround sounds used work on my old z97 based system. What am I doing wrong?

My questions are, can I used the DTS:X Ultra settings with this motherboard? Can I not use the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5? Why do I not have audio with the effects stuff on? Can I not use surround sound on this new motherboard?

I tried to follow this thread but it is long and jumps all over the place. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

So, I have installed the latest driver package from here (AAFOptimusDCHAudioPack-HDA9517.1). I was able to get the Soundblaster 720 installed and working. However, I still have to have Audio Enchantments in the sound properties off, spatial audio off, and have to have disable all sound effects checked in the Realtek Audio Control otherwise I have no sound. As long as spatial audio is off, I can change the speaker config to 5.1, but if I turn on DTS:Ultra in spatial audio, then I can only have Stereo speakers selected. No matter what settings I have, I don't believe that I get an output from the rear speakers with movies, etc. Also, none of the settings in Soundblaster 720 make any difference when I turn them on and off.
