1.5 v isn't high if that's B die, stock kits go up to 1.55 V, previously I had a 2x8 TridentZ 3800/14, you can run up to 1.7 daily as long as they're kept cool. I do 1.6 since I'm not pushing anything crazy like 4400/14, other voltages are in screenshot and are also important.

Yeah those 8 pack are B die, so up the voltage, put airflow over and you should be able to do 3800/14 no problem. tRFC is also important as mentioned, but you should be able to copy my subtimings but use appropriate tRFC values off the table I linked, and 3800 instead of 3933.

You'll start to error out above 40 °C.

This can be somewhat helpful as a basis to start with if you don't want to just copy timings.

Remember you aren't forced to run CL 14, try higher CL and MHz, latency still goes down as you increase MHz.
Running RRDL at 6, WR\RTP at 16\8 vs 10\5 will improve temp-sensitivity. Lower RFC\RC raises temp-sensitivity.

True, but my temps are fine, this is at 25°C ambient.

@Mussels You are wrong, I read people's posts on various English-language forums and people on good AIOs in games like Assissin have temperatures of 90-91 degrees. I just have average air cooling, but also dedicated and with TDP up to 180, so it's not bad at all. On this processor under load, and apparently Battlefield V or The Witcher 3 must heavily load the processor, most have temperatures of 85-90 degrees and with good AIO cooling.

PS I don't know what's going on with this processor, today I've been playing for a few hours, the same game, the same maps and the temperature 77-84 degrees and an average of 80, non-stop clock speed 4400MHz. I don't understand it completely, or something in the browser in the background was eating my processor yesterday, but what? I always have 70 tabs open but that's why I have 32GB of RAM so I can have it and it didn't affect the dyajno. I don't understand this processor.

You answered your own question.

Background processes will consume CPU resources, this isn't new, or exclusive to 5800X3D.

@dgianstefani So I can stop worrying about these temperatures because they are completely normal and okay for this processor? It seems to me that everything is in the best order, even taking into account the fact that I have air cooling and it's average. But today I have the same cards as yesterday and the temperature in the game is 74-85, usually around 80, which is 10 degrees lower than yesterday?

Update relevant to the B550I aorus, it looks like they tightened some secondary or tertiarty timings in the new bioses - my latency values are *low* for C18 ram, this is just 2xSR as well which normally would have a performance loss, too.
Yes I did the screenshot that way to show off the wallpaper, it's pretty

Taraquin is definitely the guy to ask for timings advice, he's helped me out plenty (This system has new ram, and is not tuned at all)

As for the temperature issues, my x3D is in my other PC but simply comparing the wattage and temps at the same time in HWinfo will show you what's going on - if you're chugging 140W, high temps are expected

Gaming and using <100W, it should not be maxing out at all

Yeah, no critisism agaonst you :) I raised temp sensitivity by raising RRDL/WR/RTP by 5C from 41C to 46C :) More of a general tip for those tuning B-die.

The B550i Aorus is behaving weirdly - it keeps resetting memory settings between boots on its own.

The users in this thread with the board need to double check their IF and UCLK havent reset on them, i rebooted once from posting that screenshot and was at 1900/1800/850 instead of 1900/1900/1900
It may be doing this after a failed boot, but saving over user settings isn't the way any other boards do it

In the agesa 1.0.0.8 thread someone mentioned asus and gigabyte have begun rolling out changes to AM4 too, and that may be what we're seeing

Don't forget the UCLK div on these, it's that stupid setting that reads like UCLK==FCLK (It only matters above 3600, or auto halves it)
What did you run at 1.5V? The DRAM?
That's extremely high if the ram isnt directly air cooled, and not safe for anything that isnt B-die
I use my main OS and never have corruption issues, but i'm also not jumping into extremes like that - I do small changes over time

I'm burning a win to go right now to test this. My ram is b-die though, might be a lower bin though but I've seen people running this in overclockers.co.uk forums, same kit.

What kind of timings would be good to test higher MT just to boot? just load XMP, leave on Auto and raise the speed? Because that's what I've been doing and if it booted then I'd test it. I've always made sure MCLK FCLK and UCLK were the same, never ran them at half. I really wanted to boot 3800 even if with loose timings as that with the 5800x3d would theoretically be beneficial but really annoying I can get it to 3866 lol. Ah I obviously always adjust tRFC to higher as with raising speed will obviously mean less ns, just for the sake of booting it.

Should I try 3800 again with higher voltages like 1.51/1.52v? even though this gigabyte board is overvolting lol. Also, I have a Peerless Assassin intaking air from the rear on an AP201, so the ram is getting air whether I want it or not.

Running RRDL at 6, WR\RTP at 16\8 vs 10\5 will improve temp-sensitivity. Lower RFC\RC raises temp-sensitivity.

RRDL = tRRDL? Should tRRDS be kept at the same value as well?

WR = tWR or tRDWR?

I don't know what you're talking about with this RAM, so I'll tell you. I have Vengeance LPX 32GB for two weeks and immediately in XMP they jumped to their 3600MHz 16-19-19-36.

Depending which generation of that ram, it's well known to be very poor on ryzen. The timings seem like they're the newer, more compatible stuff.

Run Zentimings and take a screenshot, and you'll be able to see.
Those primary timings are important, but the secondary timings have a very large effect on performance too

This is my VR system, 5800x + Aorus B550i, and CL18 ram is not meant to run quite this fast

This is all a little off topic from the original post about high temps - but it all sort of ties in since your SoC voltage is definitely critical to stability, but too high can add to CPU temps

It's interesting because 4 and a half years ago when I was assembling a computer with R5 2600, I first looked at the QVL memory compatibility list and Corsair Vengeance LPX, DDR4, 16 GB, 3000MHz CL15 was listed there in one of the first places. I assembled the computer myself and immediately these memories jumped on my 3000MHz CL16 at 1.35 voltage and I overclocked them in AMD Ryzen MAster to 3333MHz with 1.38 voltage and they worked like cutters for 3 years without any problems. After 3 years I switched from R5 2600 to R5 3600 with the same memories and again, never any problems. Now I have 5800X3D / RTX 3070 for 2 weeks and I bought the same ram, the same brand, even the same series, Corsair Vengeance LPX, DDR4, 32 GB, 3600MHz, CL16 and again for two weeks no problems, immediately XMP jumped to I have my timings 16-19-19-36 and I 100% know now that I will never have any problems with them. I'm sure that my current RAM would easily go to 4000MHz, only that my board supports up to 3600MHz in OC. These are sensational memories for Ryzen, both the older ones and the new ones. If they don't work for you, it means you're doing something wrong yourself, and then you write that they don't work well.

If they don't work for you, it means you're doing something wrong yourself, and then you write that they don't work well.
Tell that to the hundreds, if not thousands of people that have had issues with Ryzen and cheap Corsair ram.

It doesn't even have to be Ryzen, I had issues with Corsair back in the DDR2 days.

You got lucky! Be happy :)

Congratulations :toast:

So explain why the Crucial Ballistix Gaming Red 3600 32GB kit ran right out of the box at xmp on a 5800 oem???

Its very good on anything but Ryzen. Corsair ram has a TON of problems with Ryzen.
Corsair is fine on ryzen, its the LPX lineup that had issues
Eventually it was fixed, but in a revision change so it's very hard to tell if they've got a problematic kit without full model names and revision numbers

The problem stemmed from the default timings being entirely designed for intel - they were borderline ignoring JEDEC rules and standards, which resulted in a bunch of compatiblity issues

1687074463548.png

Ryzen 1000 had issues with odd value timings, and introduced geardown mode to fix it - but gear down doesnt activate below 2667
That resulted in issues specific to ryzen 1000 at the time, but was fixed with gear down mode a few bios updates in. Didn't help new users needing a system to POST to get the update in the first place.

The problem was mostly that corsair only ever tested on intel platforms at the time, and keeps releasing different products under the same name.
You could buy an LPX 3200 kit that was samsung hynix or micron, so users running four sticks of the "same" ram often found out they were mixing very different products

As an end user, can you tell these are not the same product?
CMK16GX4M2B3200C16
CMK16GX4M2D3200C16
CMK16GX4M2Z3200C16

According to an older post here from TPU that google turned up, only the Z kit is AMD approved.

If it was single rank, that's pretty easy to do.
The rest comes down to:
  • 5800 has the final memory controller ever released on AM4 - there was no changes or improvements, Zen3 was the final iteration.
  • The board used and it's default SoC voltage.
My Aorus x370 board defaults to 0.95v and my Aorus B550 to 1.09v, so the difference in "what just works" is very different for a reason the average consumer has no idea about.
That same board wont pass 3200 with a 3700x, but does 3866 with the 5800x and 3800 on the 5800x3D at 1.15 vSoC

Hi folks, I have 5800X3D, Asus TUF gaming X570 Plus MLB (newest bios), CO -30 all cores (in bios) but whenever I try to touch power limits (PPT,TDC,EDC) i see problems even If I input not aggressive numbers 120,90,120. What problems? Iam loosing display signal, monitor going black and then picture going back, repeating. Isnt this strange demonstration If CPU would be really instable with these limits? But really seems so, If I restart, turn back power limits to Auto in bios, all ok.

PLL shouldnt be causing display signal loss at all I don't believe. Someone else might chime in.

-30 simply may not be stable on your CPU
You haven't posted your system specs but RAM issues can cause that too - post a zentimings screenshot, at the very least.

With PBO disabled, the undervolt is disabled too. Sounds like you may not realize that some settings are disabling others

I thought -30 was stable on my X3D too, but OCCT proved me wrong. -29 is ok though :kookoo:

If my 5800x is anything to go by, IF/RAM stability tanks if the CPU passes 75c - that took ages to figure out (in the end I confirmed a 75c throttle in the BIOS solved it and slower cooling speeds made it crash faster, finally figuring it out)
