Not sure if it counts as a tech purchase but it's definitely one of the most cherished pieces of my setup right now! I've been reading way too many of
@VSG's great audio equipment reviews lately and earlier this week I've been looking for headphones, and scored this vintage Japanese Sony MDR-V7 in about as great a condition as you'll find cans that were manufactured between 1987 and 1992. They're older than me!

The set has 40 mm amorphous titanium diaphragm with samarium cobalt magnets. The pads aren't originals but they are very comfortable - the headband and cable and unimatch plug seem to be, and replacement parts for the MDR-7506 generally work with this set, so hopefully I will be its final owner, and for a while to come

The reproduction is remarkably accurate, to a point that it feels harsh and disconcerting without equalization. The treble resolution in particular is exceptionally high to the point that it felt really harsh at first, with generally shouty vocals and can easily overwhelm the bass - which also sounds pristine at the cost of having almost no rumble/feedback. It's not boomy at all, with a bloomy, subtle feel to the lower range frequencies between 50 and 100 Hz.

I've been listening to flacs all night on them (please don't ask how many times did I listen to Wolf Hurricane from the Dragon Ball OST alone) and it's been a delight, as far as equalization goes, the AutoEQ database doesn't support this headphone, the best I've managed to find so far was a Harman curve preset by innerfidelity intended for the MDR-V6 (which is very similar to this model, but a bit lower end in general and perhaps more importantly, still manufactured), interestingly Crinacle's preset for the V6 sounded pretty awful to my ears. Still a work in progress on my end though
All in all this cost me a little less than a new MDR-7506 costs in my region. I think it was a steal!
