I Sold My 4090 for a 7900 XTX - 2 Weeks Later:

Different take then you tend to hear around here from 4090 owner's.

What's going on here, he absolutely must be right, he's made a video after all. :p :)

Seem's like, well, it's sent from the upside down tbh since most of his points are all usually aimed the other way.

I have seen more issues with my 2060 then my other GPU but nothing I would get excited about tbf though it is shit with second monitor's in the extreme unless hdmi.

I have no day to day experience with 4### GPU in use, so can't comment there either tbf.

It's working fine no issues, I have had the odd C2D due to the odd game not liking the odd setting but nothing major, the only game that did that was PubG with enhanced AA enabled.
I didn't recall enabling it because it's not needed.

I say this because no card has no issues ever.

And being real is the way.

I am surprised just how well absolutely everything runs MAXED out, only one Game I own Really runs poorly.

The most Nvidia endorsed one Cyberpunk 2077 one made in collaboration with Nvidia from the start so to be expected I suppose.

As for the video, must be right, no one denied it, wow.

Well, hopefully they can pull their balls together to topple the giant. Next Gen should be interesting.

Indeed , hopefully Intel's battlemage, also hit's a home run.
We could do with a company grabbing this market and giving it a shake up.

Because 3/500 entry level cards from AMD and Nvidia will not do PC gaming space, any good at all.

I'd rather see Imagination Technologies release a PowerVR Graphics Card, Power VR and Hitachi SuperH are what drove the Sega Dreamcast, Sorry but it was Graphically better than the PS2.

Intel is no better than Nvidia on this

Seeing how Intel is evolving its Arc drivers, I'm truly interested in what the B770 may be capable of.
If it outperforms anything NV may call x070, my buying trigger finger will itch.

Hopes are one thing, but NVIDIA could literally do nothing but release a node shrink Ada Lovelace on 3 nm, with GDDR7 instead of G6X, and still beat RDNA4. At this point in time, NVIDIA has an architecture that is between 1.2x and 3x more efficient than RDNA3, depending on load, and is somewhere between 2-4 years ahead in AI and RT.

I mean, the "maybe next year" trope gets old pretty fast. There's nothing stopping AMD competing this generation, but they choose to have similar prices with an inferior product, so there is no competition. They've got enough performance to offer a competitive product (if you ignore power draw, ray tracing, AI features like frame generation, and inferior upscaling, something possible to do at the right price), but AMD wants to pretend the GPU market isn't a monopoly and their architecture is on the same level.

Intel is my own hope, as others have mentioned. They've got a competent driver/software team and also understand the concept of product testing before release.

Imagine switching to an MCM product design for cost savings (with all the power draw and latency issues that causes) but keeping the same pricing as last generation...

Tech yes city, another influencer did the reverse swap 7900 for a 4080 at exactly the same time. But got only half the clicks. and has many more subs. I believe they should just submit their bugs the regular way because this isn't helping anyone. Or maybe we should buy both cards and keep them in possession just in case to be able to swap them frantically all the time, Now this happened, now that happened and always find reasons to endorse the mood swings. But for this the prices will have to come down a lot.

When it was launched at 1100 usd for decent models I was pretty underwhelmed now that it can be grabbed occasionally for around 800 usd its pretty fantastic though. Haven't tried one though so can't really compare....

Here is another recent comparison of the two. Although the price gap has gotten larger since....

They're released one generation of DGPU cards, and since release, W1z and many other people have seen the user experience go from buggy to smooth, and performance go up massively, through relentless and rapid driver releases.

How many generations has AMD had to fix their idle/low load power draw issues? How long did it take for AMD to release a GPU generation with an encoder that worked?

I'll say politely.

Some need to read the OP.

Then reconsider what they're saying, and strive to make it relevant.

I have happily watched videos for the last life on both Nvidia and AMD hardware just fine btw.

No worlds ended, no babies cried, it just worked.

and how long as it taken Nvidia? because in that other topic where you linked that 60hz power consumption chart....Nvidia 3000 series is there right next to AMD 6000 series.....so its a bit hard to make an argument there for one company against the other when its litterally this very generation we are talking about.....

Also an Encoder that worked? you got to give me some more information on that one alongside Nvidias information.
When did either put a (hardware) encoder in, what does it do, and what problems did either have and when were they fixed, you present the question like you have the answers so im eagerly awaiting those.

If my 4090 died tomorrow I probably would give a 7900XTX a shot mostly because I wouldn't want to spend another 1600+ while I waited on an RMA and getting another 40 series card would be boring.... I kinda wish the Nitro was cheaper though because it's the only model I like aesthetically.

From a usability standpoint I don't think it would bother me but having to possibly use FSR2 and not being able to play certain games with RT at 4k would probably bug me just from the outside looking in.

Right next to, huh?

78-121 W isn't quite the same as 112-160 W.

And for this gen - 79 W 4090, 129 W 7900XTX, so things haven't changed since last gen 119 W 3090 Ti and 160 W 6900 XT, in fact the difference is bigger, 41 W last gen, 50 W this gen.

Ty for the input, did you watch the vid, is what he is saying right? he implies the occasional minor issue, the odd C2D etc, I am not trying to suggest major, but by and large !no one! talks about minor, non deal-breaking issues that can come up, I was genuinely surprised to hear this guy say what he did, as an owner.

@dgianstefani Look you have a thread for that debate, I don't bother you in it, you have one, no, could you not post an on topic opinion of day to day use and comment on the OP owners opinion?

It's mostly because he's doing it to create drama for clicks.

No one in their right mind switches from a 4090 to a 7900XTX.

I've had Zero of those issues but I mean every pc and how we use them can be unique so while I find it interesting there are too many random issues people have from both hardware vendors to really keep up with all of them. Maybe due to sticking with AM4 but ROCK solid here although I only use 2 displays on both my PC 1 1440p high refresh for desktop use and one large oled on both for gaming/content consumption.

Maybe if they really like call of duty at medium settings.

A youtube content creator has to do whatever to get views it seems to have worked so why not..... So a content creator who is making money might make a video saying they switched.

If I could justify owning both I would but I also like to mess with new hardware.

Lets be real though a lot of youtube content is driving by views it's how they get paid the best youtubers just know how to walk the fine line of actually relevant and useful vs clickbait.

I wouldn't watch this video to decide between these two cards I would look at 5+ reviews and then typically another 2-3 of the specific model I was actually going to purchase. Also the price difference is going to be the main deterrent of a 4090 for most

I agree and did not suggest otherwise but that's not what I asked in the OP, As I said.

"Different take then you tend to hear around here from 4090 owner's.

What's going on here, he absolutely must be right, he's made a video after all. :p :)

Seem's like, well, it's sent from the upside down tbh, since most of his points are all usually aimed the other way.

I have seen more issues with my 2060 then my other GPU but nothing I would get excited about tbf though it is shit with second monitor's in the extreme unless hdmi.

I have no day to day experience with 4### GPU in use, so can't comment there either tbf."

which is not what you hear from the Vocal Minority or Majority?

I don't see the sense THEN of selling a 4090 and buying a 7900XTX just for clicks because he doesn't seem insane, realistically quite well-balanced compared to some, like the OP here, no bias in it, just a fair question, and a thought out answer.

Meanwhile I see AMDs RX6900xt matching Nvidias RTX2060....so at best they are 1 generation behind, so again your statement is highly overblown.
Awaiting the answer about the encoder stuff.

did you actually watch the video? because it seems to me the reasons are perfectly legit, little niggles someone does not want to live with.

Ah yes, a single SKU example means "at best one generation behind", which is still almost two years, if you don't include the rest of the disparities listed, not just just power draw, or the step backwards with MCM RDNA3 which is worse vs Ada than RDNA2 was vs Ampere.

AMD didn't have a good encoder until the second half of the release of RDNA2, with RDNA3 they have something that's as good as Shadowplay finally, meanwhile NVIDIA can now encode two streams.

Intel encoder works from out of the gate.
