damn sorry man, I haven't had any issues. im about 10 hours in, really loved about 80% of it so far, menus are a bit convoluted is my main gripe, nothing a good mod won't fix though.

@cdawall i got my vram overclocked to 2770, its fully stable. that is a heavy oc I have on vram too. no issues here.

edit: i just took the high ground on a mission, damn that was fun, deus ex level of fun. you can really make of this game what you want, the AI is surprisingly really good, this one dude ran away from me, ran behind a door corner, then surprised melee me even though he was ranged at first, he knew I would chase him. fucking sick, lmao
10 hours in? boy you must have a NASA computer

I'm using a fcking threadripper here and can't get past the tutorial due to 100% CPU usage and all the stuttering lmfao

I'm saving a kidney for a sweet enterprise SLC drive. Hopefully this one game will be patched by the time I get it.

Read Microns are good but not sure, I like Intel's SCM more, that's top of the line stuff.

SLC is gone even in the enterprise. Samsung released the 983 ZET a few years ago to compete with Optane, but these are ridiculously expensive for the capacity.

I’m really enjoying the game. It won’t tell me how much FPS I’m getting with FSR on, but without FSR it was about 80 fps on Ultra. I’m yet to have a performance issue/ bug outside of the occasional audio stutter after nearly 30 hours of gameplay.

I got both the CS2 beta and Starfield on Friday and have put all of 2 hours into the CS2 beta.

Actually there are still some SLC drives being released. The Micron XTR SLC for example was released in May 2023: https://www.anandtech.com/show/1886...er-nvme-ssd-lineup-6500-ion-tlc-and-xtr-slc/2

It has an endurance of 210 PBW and is designed to be written to 24/7.

You can get 33.6 PBW endurance on a 15.36TB Micron 9300 Pro (which is TLC) and that will still be overkill. Unless you have some incredibly niche scenario where you have to have a computer writing data 24/7, it's a waste.

10 hours in? boy you must have a NASA computer

I'm using a fcking threadripper here and can't get past the tutorial due to 100% CPU usage and all the stuttering lmfao

no stuttering at all here, not even in the big cities, my fps just goes horribly slow there and its not near as fun as being out in the world.

my system specs are under my name, and here are my in-game settings: also side note: i get 160 fps at 1440p in lots of areas, like when I did the mission last night to get my new ship, corridors, buidlings, etc and some planets are just optimized better. its only in cities where it will dip to 100-120 fps, and in big cities like new atlanties to a crippling 50-70 fps (and the world looks extremely blurry when this happens) so hopefully amd will come out with fsr3 frame generation someday. but if not its no sweat off my balls, im having fun

vsync is off cause i use rivatuner to frame at 160

1694022646566.png

here i am getting 160 fps for example and it still looks beautiful even with my lower settings.

only thing that really makes me sad about this game is it's not a proper space sim, so I can have a fleet of ships which is cool and all, but its not like other space games where I can have all my fleet with me flying at the same time, by AI and I could fast travel between each ship at will, that would truly be the icing on the cake for me for this game, maybe a mod will come along that does that, but I doubt it, that's some heavy coding right there. although even older games like EVE Online have had this for decade+, but I guess that's just not what this game is about, so no big deal, but it would be cool having some epic space battles.

I'm having fun in Starfield but as a lower-key gamer that makes me wonder if it's rigorous enough for some people out there. Even playing in New Atlantis on a i7-4790 Dell with a used 5600 XT it's enjoyable. You might think I need FSR for the GPU but not so as the 4790 is pegged at 82-100% CPU and the GPU is loafing at 75-85% usage with HUB's Performance settings. 1080p, ranging from 35-43 fps CPU-limited. I may set it to their Quality settings to get closer to 100% GPU usage but then I won't get higher fps on more barren worlds or indoors.

But frankly it's fun to play at 1080p/35-40 FPS on a free machine with a $120 GPU and $60 SATA SSD in it.

Figured I'd give the game a try - completely forgot I pay for the kids to have game pass on the Xbox - so I went to download the game on PC. Requires 149GB.

Got to about 101GB and there was some kind of "error" and it had been sitting at that error for the past handful of hours. Suggestions to try was restarting your system and app and so on. They didn't work. I came back a few times over the next few hours and tried to restart the download only to be meet with the same error. Screw it - I canceled the download thinking I just have to restart it since it's stuck for some reason. I went back to restart the download - nope, you can't do it if you cancel it. You have to try and redownload the entire 149GB. Fuck that. This is one of the reasons I fucking hate digital downloads (and shitty data caps). Give me back physical copies.

I'm not sure if this is a shot at the game itself or if it's just a crappy experience with Microsoft Gamepass servers, either way, it'll be a game I won't be playing. Waste of nearly 1/10th of my monthly data cap. Oh, and screw you too, Comcast, with your stupid data caps.
Holy shit, what country do you live in that you have data cap? We had that shit here in central Europe back in 1999.

Some games are released for free, indicating they are more than that, they are a form of art, that being said I agree with the rest of your statement. Starfield def has some people that are there just to make a buck, others who could retire now if they wanted cause they got enough in the bank, but this is a passion for them so they continue to make games anyway, and probably a hybrid of are there to make a buck, but also love it as a form of art. As before though, I agree with the rest of your statement, I have no discussed politics in this thread that I am aware of, lets focus on the game everyone. ^^

Omg the main story line is so short and weak. I have pretty much beat the game.

please put your quest line in spoiler tags as some of the quest names may give away some hints here and there of the way the story flows. fyi, I have not even dented the main story, I keep doing side quests cause they are so fun

that being said, I am still having fun, about 20 hours in now :)

I'll replay the game after this but only do the side missions. I just wanted to see how long the main story was.

don't forget to paint your spaceship, which you can do by talking to a shipyard tech at any landing location, well most landing locations i think. i painted mine today, its epic :D

free to paint btw, which surprised, was expecting it to cost credits

I had no idea you could select multiple different hab variants in the ship builder by using the arrow keys. I've been doing nothing but building ships all day lol.

Yes, on the NVMe it runs as smooth as silk and I was in the game after about 2 mins. No crashes and performance is pretty good at 50-60 fps on medium setttings.
I'm impressed.

Space Combat is pretty fun, my friend just showed me a trick for keyboard mouse users. "For space combat I didn't see this tip anywhere. But you hold spacebar (assuming you're kn M+KB) it turns off inertial dampeners. So you can shoot forward, hold space, turn your ship around and maintain your now backwards momentum while firing.

Pair that with some well angled and timed boosts, or even thruster use (if you have that unlocked through piloting) and you can do some interesting offensive and evasive maneuvers"

@Octopuss if you don't enjoy it or think it looks like shit, that is fine and your opinion, but no need for you to post in this thread. you can go enjoy other games. those of us here are enjoying a game and sharing in discussion of that game.

That sounds great and I hope I remember it but boy do I fear doing the actual space combat. I can't say how relieved I was when after a couple days away I came back to Starfield and found I was on planet as I thought I needed to finish up some space combat. No shade on Starfield, just a thing that I'm not so good at. I was utter trash at SW Squadrons, lol!

Don't worry, as the game progresses and you get better ships and stuff it gets better. I suck at space combat too, I know exactly what you mean. You can still make it fun in this game though, lot of flexibility in how you approach things unlike other space games, for example, you can turn down all power except one or two slots of power to your engine to gain stealth mode in any ship. It's very slow moving of course, but it works when you in a bind. :)

I started a new character to play around with console commands (it won't overwrite my main save where I am using no console commands, I explained that several posts ago how to do it), graphics look fucking amazing. Getting 150 fps here. Have fun everyone!
