That's not correct, the field of stars are all there in Starfield in those screencaps and in my game.

It's the Moon and Sun that aren't rendered in there, I'll check in my game to see.

Edit: Yep, no Moon in sky as shadows cast by it are clearly rendered in but there's no source in the opposite direction.
Woah wait what? I’ve been noticing some issues with shadows appearing while there’s no light source but I’m using a 3080.

Possible answer to the Intel Arc stability issues.

Starfield uses virtual memory allocation for vram, and heavy defragmentation. As users see it uses only average ~8gb vram. It very actively overwrites unused / older blocks.
But this cause a lot of small memory copying. This is not an optimal way but works on AMD and Nvidia cards and spares vram. (must for 8gb vram cards, without this defragmentation the game needs over 10-14gb Vram, and will runs trash on 8Gb cards)
Intel uses REBAR and works like an integrated gpu, it is optimized for large blocks memory copy. Driver can put together the lot small operations to fewer large ones but the engine cant handle it well, that cause crashes.
But this is just one reason, there a lot of engine flaws but for Intel cards this is a critical one.

For the A770 card is use Bethini tweaker Low+Optimized tweaks, and increased the virtual memory (swap file) to 24Gb. So i can play over 30min to few hours. I think these setting can keep the vram usage very low so the engine defragmenting not much needed.

TLDR:
vram defragmentation cause it, keeping vram usage lower increase stability = Low settings and tweaks with bethini
waiting for driver/patch (but I don't think Bethesda cares, so the driver will probably fix it)

how the heck do i create an outpost? i scanned all over the dang place, but the highlight option (press r on keyboard) never lights up for me. has outpost (8) then R but it won't let me place an outpost anywhere on any planet... what am I doing wrong?
i saw CohhCarnage having issues with outpost being gradually damaged on Jemison, so he thought devs did it so because "no outpost allowed on Jemison" for "random reason"

my only outpost is on Jemison ... built it as soon as i did hit ground in New Atlantis...

my take on your issue... maybe some planet do not allow outpost? although i have the prompt and i can pop the beacon to make outpost on all planets and moon (and pluto ... since ... *sadface* Pluto is neither a moon nor a planet ... NO! that's wrong! Pluto is a planet! #PlutoIsAPlanet #PlanetoidMatter #PlutoFanclub !!!)

Yes, I think there should be some big update coming soon that improves performance. The GPU voltage spikes alone need to be addressed.

"Supra Et Ultra" ....

doing the UC Vanguard "side" quest ("Side" because we all know that the main quest is the actual side quest and NG+ transform the game into a "Rogue Lite" ) bloody love it ...

also i love exploring and going into random caves  (Paradiso area)

that's some nice giant morchella esculenta on the 3rd pic ... man i wish i could find some irl too ( the biggest one i found years ago was 30cm at best  )

i'm here to shoot baddies and carry cargo ... and my ship is literally made of cargo hold ... 6 of them are 1200 units and visible, 2x250 and 1x500 fuel tank everything class C now

missiles? more like freaking torpedoes (ok cruise missile eventually )

yep.

(new AMD driver, okay, no spikes )

odd, bog basic stock 3600 and i get 45% CPU with 95% GPU most of the time (aside in new atlantis but FPS is in the "still perfectly playable")

what res?
Can you explain how you get C ship parts to build with? I bought several B/C class ships now, with great parts on them, but say I want to use the reactor (got a 36 power one... :D) on another ship, how do I do this? Or where/how do you get the parts in the Builder? It seems to be tied to the shipyard you're at primarily, or am I missing something?

Anyone else experiencing intermittent crashes to desktop? I'm using a RX7900XTX
Only had one and that was prior to upgrading to latest drivers on 7900XT. Not a single hiccup since.

i figured it out. what is the benefit of outposts though? it will just auto generate wealth and resources for me?
basically yes ... but need a lot of upgrades, although that's what made me obnoxiously rich by selling shittons of ressources

also i am a big settlement building fan since Fo4 and my joy and pride is my C.A.M.P. in Fo76  RP and immersion, well i love my "home on the ground", not a fan of buying houses (aside in Skyrim tho ) the one on New Atlantis ... nah no thanks ... if thats the reward for being an UC Citizen ... i pass :p

and the depth of the outpost building in Starfield is gigantic ... inter outpost system transfer is one thing i need to setup once i get more than 1 outpost

it's tied to shipyard and to level also, i grinded a lot XP before getting to that  initially i got some unique B/C part, when buying class B/C ships, that i could not get otherwise and then once i did hit 40+ i got most C class shown up in almost any shipyards

latest save file playtime show 4d 15h 52min i did a lot of higher level system to powerlevel (full missile build for ship and "Beowulf" SR/"negotiator" RL gun loadout )

Holy shit nice find. So we need an unlocker to make the engine use the full capacity. Might net us some FPS?

Reminds me of Fallout 3... 2 > 4GB RAM

Awesome... yeah that was the one thing playing around in my mind, shop inventories must be level tied. Yet another element that's similar then to the rest of the Creation stable. Thanks!

well, it's a BethGame, thus i play it like all BethGame ... why do i like Fo (even the original before Bethesda)/TES so much... well 1. mods, 2. freedom, 3. thinking outside the box
for now on Starfield mods only ammount to cosmetics and sound
freedom...? HECK YEAH! full throttle!
thinking outside the box? well, duh! ... if i don't hunt those pesky artifact, the "end of the universe" will not come (just like in Morrowind/Oblivion/skyrim, not doing the main quest in a rush and focusing on side content yield more fun than the opposite )

The what now? I haven't seen anything of the sort. Transient spiking is an RDNA2 feature tho in general, if that trips your PSU, you need a bigger or better one, you've only got a 225W card there...

Boy do I feel dumb. Many mentioned perhaps PSU was pulling too much power. No, I am just dumb. I built this rig 6 months ago and rushed through it. I put the CPU fan on the wrong side of the heatsink... so the GPU was holding steady at 75 degrees some of the air was getting blown up to the CPU because the CPU was blowing the hot air back into the case rather than out the back through the case exhaust fan... CoreTemp showed all cores hitting 97% !!!!! I have fixed the fan issue and will be purchasing an additional fan for top exhaust.

Edit: also had CPU fan set to SILENT in BIOS. LOLOLOL :slap:

That moment you figure it out tho, priceless :D Wow. Glad you found it

yeah this game pushes the whole system pretty evenly, I definitely notice some heat coming off the rig - 120W on the CPU and 320W on the GPU actually warms the room up noticeably. :/

^ Same on console, XBX could double as a space heater while playing this.

Did anyone else have a bear of time with the Mark I spacesuit glitch?
I went back to The Lodge and was trying to get a pixel on it for a while last night with no luck.

Woah wait what? I’ve been noticing some issues with shadows appearing while there’s no light source but I’m using a 3080.

I'm assuming that in game design you bake in a light source and also the element that represents that light source (moon, streetlamp, headlamp, etc), but those 2 game elements are treated as 2 different things. You can have one without the other, thus leading to inconsistencies like it being daytime but there being no actual sun in the sky because of errors in game design (or drivers in Starfield's case??). Same goes for static light sources where you're casting a shadow on the ground but there's no corresponding light source. I'm sure I've seen that in other games as I occasionally look for it but nothing obvious comes to mind right now. LOL other than Starfield...

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
on powerdraw and SSD issue ...

weird ... never noticed more than 185w on GPU and GPU at 99% (other games usually around 150w so, yeah it draw a bit more ) CPU?... 64W at 65% o_O
my ambient is 28°c and CPU/GPU temps are : 43-50°c/50-60°c

SSD, well i installed it on a Crucial P3 Plus (DRAMless ) 2tb and no problems so far ...

i am not dismissing issues others have ... but it's strange...

It really depends what you're running. You have a well balanced system and more importantly: its not overkill. If you throw a 4090 and a 13900K at this game, its a nuclear power plant, even at the same utilization. And we've already identified a lot of CPU work is in fact not impacted as much by how new your architecture is. This game really just wants Ghz and some arbitrary number of cores, and then proceeds to use everything on top to limited effect.

I'm not seeing peak power on my CPU either, I have the GPU pegged at 100%, and sure I might lose some FPS here or there, but I have my 7900XT performing quite in line with the benchmarks of 1440p, with a small penalty for running UW.

And I also think it matters what you're used to/what's your frame of reference. When this game momentarily drops FPS, for example yesterday when I had to frequent Akila City which is in places capable of dropping me to 35-40 FPS (the corridor leading up to the city center, when you turn around the corner ALL those NPCs ad objects are in view and boom!), its entirely expected, and it still runs a lot better than the city center of Fallout 4...

It also depends on the resolution -- 3440x1440 is noticeably cooler and the card only draws about 280W, than 4k on the 4090. But yeah 4k 100-130FPS is a a bit of a power hog measured for fun just now peak CPU is 122W (~100W average on 13700K) and 375W on an 85%PW limit w/ OC 4090 - so totalling 500W of power in intense firefights, that could easily be 650-700 on an overclocked 13900K and uncapped 4090 system. o_O

2%?! Impossibru. You've alt tabbed perhaps? Because then the load dives immediately

not alt tabbed photo is of the phone showing stats with game on the screen

Let me try it again

Here is a video of me trying to film it while holding my phone. Excuse me talking to my GF. Hope you can still see how low the CPU % is. Why?
