Looks like the Starfield you, or the REAL you? I always try to pick a likeness as close to myself as possible, but wound up with a guy that looks like he just started college. I'm 65, so that's a bit weird. I can't pick a grey haired character look though because only my sideburns are grey, as well as a bit of my temples. This is why I never put too much stock in character creators, because they always have shortcomings.

BTW, Dalton's voice is one of the better ones in the game IMO. Looks like you have a Father/Son thing going there.

hoping some improvements down the line make it more exciting.

This... is the worst possible way for a player to treat a game. It's why these half baked big budget games are a thing.

but what's the alternative? don't buy it in the hopes that the rest of the market does the same and studios only set scope on super-safe games that they can fully finish on time?

There's enough here for a decent game that overall meets the goal of what they were trying to do. But with some mods and future adds that "decent" can be "legendary".

Once Bethesda finds their stride they make some incredible games. - Oblivion (decent->good->legendary (shivering isles)), Skyrim (good->legendary) - fallout 3 (decent) -> fallout new vegas (legendary) etc...

I treat Bethesda games like new Windows releases. Between great operating systems will be a windows ME or a windows 8.

Slightly offtopic, a couple of pages ago I said HT boosts performance a lot, it seems like it's only an alderlake thing. Raptorlake seems fine with either on or offF6aGObTW8AAo10F.jpg

It looks like they turned rebar off as well for alderlake?

That's interesting, i didn't think there was much architectural difference between the gens.

According to that chart, HT seems to penalize performance for Alder Lake and Zen 4.

Both AMD and Intel can fetch instructions from L2 with high throughput as long as the branch predictor generates targets far enough ahead to hide the latency of missing L1. Raptor lake has a bigger L2 that is probably beneficial in this case. With SMT, the smaller L2 of Golden Cove and Zen 4 would have higher miss rates for each of the 2 threads being scheduled onto them if the threads have different instruction working sets.

Really? Why? The game is quite fun with lots of things to do. Every AAA game has bugs, especially of this size. The best possible way to treat a game is to enjoy playing it.

The problem with that metric for both games really is a lot of people playing Starfield are likely on gamepass or xbox and I bet a lot of people who picked up BG3 did on GOG so that they are free of any DRM at least I did anyway.

yep exactly this. I already knew that Starfield would be the type of game I would come back to when the expansion, patches, and mods came out, so getting it on Steam with my gpu for free was still an ideal situation for me. Plus Steam Deck 2 will probably run it amazingly well in OLED... so I have a lot to look forward to. I'm taking a break from the game for now and going to play the Batman games, AA, Arkham Knight, Origins, etc. I modded the ini files so they all play at high refresh now :) they look beautiful and are so easy to run. going to have a lot of fun

That is simultaneously hilarious and excellent. But is it functional?

The best possible way to treat a game is to enjoy playing it.
THIS!! YES!! It's one thing for a game to be objectively poorly made and universally panned. It is completely another for games to be solid and in need of refinement. Starfield is the latter. Personal preferences however are a thing.

Example: Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. I never finished it and will not play it again. It was the stamina gauge and items wearing out aspect. That kind of dynamic, especially as implemented by Nintendo in that game, is EXTREMELY irritating and infuriating. I will not play a game like that that again, no matter how much they are praised.

I quite agree. It seems to me that at the most simplistic level there are two types of players: those who want a challenge and to "beat the game" and those who simply want to experience the game world and enjoy the ride. Starfield is very much a game for the latter type, myself included.

Lately I've been making characters that look like me for more immersion so yes, he bears some resemblance to real me.

Lol @ the thought of Dalton being my real father in game, we look exactly alike and my in game parents look very different.

This is my latest creation and current run-about. Design ideas shamelessly stolen from all and sundry. Its greatest downside is that every enemy dies too quickly, so if I ever wanted to board and take over a hostile ship I'd have to change out all the weapons. 1st world problems and all that.

Yep. I was stuck in "Entangled" and used the console to set the quest as completed. No issues.
