Been trying to figure out if I want this game..
I think I do but I hear things like "space travel is only an on rails animation, you can't actually fly anywhere" and "there is no method of vehicular transportation on planets, you just have to walk" and that missions are boring and repetitive, planets are boring auto generations. Is all this actually true? What is the saving grace?

Also I have always wondered why people say "I can't lie" at the beginning of a response lol..
I get it but is like peoples first response to generally lie so often, that now people have to put a disclaimer before thier actual response? lol.
I just think it's funny. Not like a personal insult or anything I promise. It just makes me laugh a little inside.

Hahah, I know. It's more of a way to assert something I suppose :)

Much of the criticism spans from an expectation that people made up that there would be space void travel like in Elite Dangerous or in No Man's Sky. Planets are usually 6x6 km maps accompanied of an orbit, and planets aren't entirely auto-generated, they're pseudo-random, as in, a few features are always present and others vary. Yes, you have to "walk", but it's much less of a big deal than most people who are using this as an arguing point are trying to make up.

Could planets have more landing points, variants, and points of interest? Yes. But you'll find that for a base game, it's quite meaty - I've been playing for 22 days now non stop, sessions of 12h+, and I haven't even come close to getting bored yet.

There is a LOT, and I mean a LOT of dishonest talking points floating around right now because it's generating clicks like no tomorrow. If you're used to playing Skyrim or Fallout 4, you will feel very much at home with Starfield.

The world is more like Knights of the Old Republic than Skyrim. Meaning you have small pockets of locations in which you can interact with the world. The vast majority of quests are fetch quests. "Go there, get that" or "Go there, kill them", but because travevling between places (no matter how many light years) boils down to "bring up map, click on where you want to go, confirm" it doesn't feel like a big deal. I think the question of "is this a good game I should buy" boils down to the question of what you want from a game. Do you want a deep, meaningful story? This game does not have that. Do you want meaningful choices? I am yet (after close to 50 hours) to encounter anything meaningful. Do you want clever design, something that will test your skills? This game will NOT test you, in any capacity (save for the lockpicking minigame that does not have a force option, but it's also the best lockpicking minigame I've seen). But also, is games something you do to relax and something that you just do as a way to somewhat pleasantly spend your time? This game will provide. Do you like the sandbox-lite elements of Fallout 4? This is the game for you.

So yeah. The caveat here is that I got this game when I bought my graphics card. I probably wouldn't buy it at full price. Is it a satisfying experience? Probably not. Is it an enjoyable experience? It depends on what you mean by "enjoyable". But I have played this game a lot (for me, I'm not like the degenerates* above), and I do not regret it.

Also the checker at the end, say for ex. tells you a part is not attached but doesn't highlight which part. Thus in a massive build its like a needle in a haystack. Talk about annoyance lol.

Yes, this is about the only thing I would change about the builder. Personally I think it's great that I'm left to find out things for myself, rather than having my hand held from start to finish. That said, there's a limit to everything and the lack of indication of which part is the offending one is really quite annoying. The rest I'm good with.

Peculiar. Can't say I have that problem at all; it works very predictably whenever I build. Outpost building on the other hand is quite finicky.

Sorry, meant to say where you hover the cursor isn't at all near where the part attaches when the attachment point turns green. Is it not like that for you?

That is exactly my impression. Also, if I attempt to add a fourth type of weapon I would like it to stop me from doing so before I add it so I can skip the check. In fact, I think it would be really helpful if they had a build wizard that would walk you through choosing your parts and then narrow down your options as you go. Right now it is basically just bang your head against the way until it all fits together and flies.

Because the ship builder was so finicky I had to fly the Frontier to the Legacy ship on the Eye of the Storm quest. Fortunately I only had to engage in one small, easy battle on the way back to the UC Vigilance. Before heading to the Key to attack the Crimson Fleet though my first stop was at New Atlantis to change my ship to the Razorleaf. I was glad I did because the Frontier the way I had it equipped would have never survived the last battle before getting onto the Key.

Not if I understand you correctly. When I highlight a connection point and choose a new module, then that's where it snaps to pretty much every time. It does at times happen that it snaps to the point either side, but I attribute that to me inadvertently moving the mouse. Very, very rare for it to happen though.

Maybe we're doing it by different methods then, which seems the case when you say "highlight a connection point".

I'm simply going into the ship builder, clicking the Add tab, selecting the right category for the part I'm installing (in this case equipment), then choosing the part, then hovering the mouse cursor until the attachment point turns green. I don't actually have to "highlight a connection point", as that happens automatically for each part selected in the place it's supposed to go.

I've been looking all over and fwiw there is no way to control where or how habs connect.

I would suggest you try "my" way then, since when you highlight the desired connection first and then click CTRL-G, only the mods which CAN connect to that point will show up. Makes things a lot easier, which I know because I did it "your" way first.

Ctrl is the modifier to copy with G (add). Ctrl can also be used to highlight more than one piece. You have no control over positioning of the portals or doors inside the hab. You keep alluding to connection points but that's automatic. Maybe you're misunderstanding the question here? You can have top habs that have no side connection points at all btw...

I love the shipbuilding aspect of this game. Started by upgrading the Frontier with more cargo room and upgraded A class equipment (picture 1) then nabbed a C class ship (the remaining photos) and have done my best to make it look as ugly as possible while being able to haul 5000+, being able to one shot any asteroid, shields that hum but with a mobility of 50. I figure I should just make it look like a Star Destroyer and be done with it.

That would mean there's something clearly wrong with the Add feature of the builder, because the connection point DID show for the Comspike module on the Razorleaf, it just wouldn't highlight green no matter where I placed the cursor.

The problem as I see it with doing it "your" way, is you have to know where all the connection points are supposed to be, and I'm not nearly experienced enough with the builder yet to know all those points.

To be sure though, I assume you are manually highlighting those points by clicking on them with the mouse cursor?

Looks like your save is screwed up somehow. The game has a few scripting errors, my save for example is bugged in a very unique way, my suit seems to grant no protection from cold weather and I have the "weather warning" sign permanently on, it's been that way for the past 2 playthroughs.
Don't think so, it seems my problems are quite common.

I think the game is so big that this kind of problems are really hard to find during QA. But it's still playable, I've had no crashes so far, saves sync between PC and Xbox without issues.

Ok so the Crimson Fleet questline. I refused the blackmail attempt, and now that questline is completely locked out because I refuse to kill a guy or get him killed and the option of finding a way to let him live doesn't exist because I'm not working for the UC. So yeah.

Imo it is fine as it is for now. Some will like it and some not. Try it, you get 2 hours to decide if you want to keep it or not.

If you liked fallout i think you will really enjoy starfield. but i am not sure it is worth $70 unless you really get into it and play it a lot.

To be sure though, I assume you are manually highlighting those points by clicking on them with the mouse cursor?

Not clicking, just highlighting with the cursor and then using CTRL-G.

Ok so the Crimson Fleet questline. I refused the blackmail attempt, and now that questline is completely locked out because I refuse to kill a guy or get him killed and the option of finding a way to let him live doesn't exist because I'm not working for the UC. So yeah.
Oh... you're not UC. I'm guessing you don't have a backup save to roll back to?

I do, from some 45 game hours ago. And for the record the thing they tried to blackmail me over is me accidentaly stealing a book. You know how you can take pens, folders and stuff and it's not stealing? Early game I took everything I could and sold it (without stealing), and I accidentally picked up a book.

Lmao, a book? Unbelievable, the ignominy!

Again, we can't choose the connection points no matter what some might suggest. The habs with more than one access point will be up to the AI. However as the video shows below we can control which access points are used by strategic use of hab spines and companionways taking the randomness out of the equation.

4-way companionways FTW!

I never said we can. Suffice it to say most seem to agree the ship builder needs patching.

The "some" in that point wasn't referring to you.
