Hey I still use a tape drive. No bashing.
Tape drives are actually a lot faster than most internet connections if all you need is the entire tape (so sequential only).

Yes, I do. You can joke, but I'm serious. And as these are a recent purchase, they're on topic too!

So yeah, optical discs are still useful and relevant, regardless of those who may not still agree. As an example, the discs shown for Wolfenstein 2(yes I'm aware I misspelled) are still faster to copy from than the game is to redownload(and I have fiber internet). I think people NOT utilizing optical media is just crazy.

That's not a bad plan for backups. If it works for you, more's the better.

That's just what not in storage

I'll try to post a vid or pic (not sure how to do the former), but I'd gotten two sets of LED ambient (sync) backlight for my monitors. It's basically LED stuck to back of monitor that synchronize with what is on the screen (mostly), it's not perfect but it's good nonetheless. It really looked kinda cool, I'd seen someone in the local forum who'd posted it and that piqued my interest, so I'd gotten them from Aliexpress.

Wow! I thought I was the only disc junkie on TPU. Nice!
I still have a ODD backup image of an old 60GB HDD from around 2001 floating around somewhere on a spool. I have no clue whats on it, should open that time capsule. I think it was my first XP system.

I'll take a disc over dling a game everyday of the week. I truly DESPISE having to dl games. It cost me $60 in overages the last time I decided to try out a handful of new games. Yeah my carrier sucks xxxx.

My case actually has a 5.25 bay but it's inaccessible due to my front rad. Still have the DVD burner tucked away somewhere. Of course I've also got a usb DVD burner that I haven't touched in a couple of years. Still have spindles of CDs and DVDs that have been setting on my hutch for probably 10 or more yrs...as soon as I toss em, I'll need em guaranteed. So there they stay lol.

The best things do come on a disc! :) You can't build a movie collection from a streaming subscription.
No thanks, physical media is wasteful in more than one way.

When it sits there unused and when their family is forced to deal with disposing of hundreds of metric tons of dedicated folders containing an incredible amount of backed up material they justified continuing to amass. :p

Having the ability to play my favourite films for a lifetime, with no subscription fees or the necessity of a permanent, good quality internet connection isn't something I'd call wasteful. But each to their own, I guess.

Trying to right some wrongs and make some QoL fixes with my build since it appears im going to be on this machine a little longer than I had expected. YES i know there are better options out there but it was cheaper then a Crucial P5/P5 Plus. Amazon dont do SN570s anymore (which were my original choice) and I find samsungs offerings overpriced.

Im not much of a gamer as I used to be so even faster load times when my most played games are already on an SSD is a bit of a moot point.

While i am penny pinching, im after something that strikes a good balance between cost, performance and longevity. I could have gone with a Crucial P3/P3 Plus and saved even more money but they are QLC and thus have poorer endurance (and just overall a weaker drive - although you can say I might have somewhat contradicted myself a little - Not caring about performance but then going with an SSD that is quite high-performance. In all honesty, I could have also gone with a much cheaper WD Blue 570 but thought the SN770 was a more futureproof option. 900TBW vs 1200TBW)

Im aware that PCi-Ex Gen 5 is here and im not fussed about it. The SN770 is still an awesome drive and I'll deal with Gen 5 when I come across it.

Given the choice that I could have spent the money on 64Gigs of DDR4. I think I made the best decision as the SN770 can be carried over onto the new machine if it ever comes into fruition. (which also explains my previous purchase of two BX500's)

Welcome to the WD gang. They are VERY impressive drives for the price and I highly recommend them. Also, don't bother with Gen 5. It's a power hog that will add no noticeable benefit other than draining your bank before you can spend it on more gas.

Thank you - and i already have an older WD Black 500GB (WDS500G2X0C) in my system on a riser but i dont list it in specs as its full of junk

I tend to have it there just so i can use Acronis for free

Wasnt such a bad drive at the time although 300 TBW endurance is pretty scary these days.

trying to right some wrongs with my build since it appears im going to be on this machine a bit longer. YES i know there are better options out there but it was cheaper then a Crucial P5/P5 Plus. Amazon dont do SN570s anymore (which was my first choice) and I find samsungs overpriced.

Im not a super super hardcore gamer anyway and while i am penny pinching, im after something that strikes a good balance between cost, performance and longevity. I could have gone with a Crucial P3/P3 Plus and saved even more money but they are QLC and thus have poorer endurance (and just overall a weaker drive)

Im aware that PCi-Ex Gen 5 is basically here and im not fussed about it.

I was happy with how my 2tb sn770 game drive turned out so I got 1TB for boot drive. No regrets.

Noice low prices which is probably why they state 'returns not accepted', right?
Returns not accepted is a lie on eBay. You always have to accept returns

I believe sellers are permitted to reject returns if the item description dictates "no returns accepted". If the item sold is damaged, falls short of matching the listing or simply doesnt work (i.e. electronics/etc) then yes Ebay will assist in enforcing buyer return requests regardless of what the sellers return policy suggests.

They are allowed to reject returns for regular purchases, but if it's broken/wrong item/never showed up you can get a refund.
I always make sure I want to have what I'm buying so that's never been an issue for me
