Mine was 100% solid the entire time I had it.

Some points to consider:

+/- No PCIe 5.0 x16 slot (not important in my opinion), but it does have a Gen 5 NVMe slot
+ 6 SATA ports (if that matters to you)
+/- No motherboard heatsinks for the 3 NVMe slots (not a big deal for me)

Best bang for the buck as far as I'm concerned. I also have a Z690 and Z790 from their Pro series that are also rock solid.

I actually almost went with the MSI board but the Gigabyte was like 30 cheaper on a sale has more usb slots and a heatsinks on all the m.2 and a built in I/O shield which is nitpicking but I prefer it.

I also have a ton of experience on X570 with Gigabyte boards and memory tweaking you could do with your eyes closed on them although that matters less on X670.

Just a heads-up Newegg has the 7800X3D for $50 off and $50 promo code so = $349 -- https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-ryzen-7-7000-series/p/N82E16819113793
G.Skill Trident Z5 32GB kit (2x16GB) mentioned a few times earlier for $107 (RGB) -- https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb/p/N82E16820374427
If you buy them together you also get another $20 off combo

I saw that for the 7800X3D, have that in the cart. RAM has this promo code for $7 off:
TECCXA272

Seems to stack with the combo. So you will get $50 off, $7, and $20 off. Total of $77 off. I may get these today.

Any similar RAM with lower profile for cooler clearance.

I already got my Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler on sale earlier this week for $16 off which it still is -- https://www.newegg.com/be-quiet-dark-rock-pro-4-bk022/p/13C-001F-00027?Item=9SIA68V6YA3005
I somewhat verified it clears because they have similar RAM modules in their own website photo

.... and YES I over engineer my stuff and YES it is HUGE as have it on my daughters setup which doesn't need it!!

(R5 3600 and a RX580 - was a temp build in late 2020 while I waited for new 3000 series Nvidia GFX card that came out with insane prices so never upgraded her)

Thanks. I'm not seeing that on the QVL list for either the ASRock Lightening PG or MSI Pro X670-P.

These models show up as supported for both:
F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5N
F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5N

F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR (tall heat spreaders) I assume is the same RAM, just with RGB hence the R.

Is F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5 the same RAM, just with a different heat spreader?

They are Hynix, and I assume those should be fine with EXPO?

The Flare X5 are probably very similar or the same RAM chips from Hynix as the Z5 which is what Hardware Unboxed uses for AM5 testing.
Depending on your cooler you can probably still have the Z5 as have tall DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaws V on daughters X570 and still have space

2023-10-04_17h18_42.jpg

The Flare X5 QVL list shows those MB's which is actually more important than the MB manufacturer in some ways

detailed spec sheets on GSkill site indicate exact same info for the X5 and Z5 and even indicated which CPU tested on which MB

Thanks, seems like that should work then. I assume there is zero practical difference in cooling, one just has RGB which is pointless if one DIMM is covered anyways. You don't get the extra $7 off, but it is $15 cheaper in the first place making it $8 cheaper.

The $50 + $20 discounts will work and stack with this kit, so if you want to save $8 and skip RGB that seems like the right option.

Any other coupons running that may stack?

I believe Capital One has 2% back on newegg purchases now, so for those that use them double check.

I agree about the RGB as not a big deal for me as PC behind the 42" TV I use for gaming.
Interestingly the X5 did not launch with the CL30 chips, lowest was CL32 so they have added them since so it is somewhat cosmetic choice if not causing them to heat up more than they would at EXPO settings.

I did get 4x16GB modules for my daughter for her streaming/creator/video rendering rig but she hasn't used them yet so was a waste.
Technically as the 7800X3D is not sensitive to timing you could get 2 x 32GB with loser timings if you want to spend more and future proof or lose some performance down the road by installing another 2 x 16GB into the other 2 slots

I doubt I will use 64GB anytime soon. If I do though, I will probably get a 64GB kit and get and a 12 core CPU. I'd think any task that requires more than 32GB would also see a big benefit to a 12+ core CPU.

I agree and it is $199 for the compatible modules I found which are just a bit slower
Money no object though and 2x32GB the way to go for SaG

Will be interesting to see RAM usage as not gamed on PC for a few years besides low effort WoT so City Skylines 2, Cyberpunk and AC Mirage are 1st on my list and then Starfield

Got the G Skill Flare X F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5 and 7800X3D. $428.99 before sales tax. Both the $50 off and $20 combo applied and worked at Newegg. Seems like they only allow one $50 off per account but the $20 price still works as a heads up for those that may want to buy multiple CPUs.

Still deciding on the boards, so if someone else has other suggestions keep them coming.

I also bought the 7800X3D but with the Trident Z5 Neo RGB mostly because of larger heatsinks just in case and $7 cheaper than non-RGB so why not!
Now have everything except MB & case but have the MSI PRO X670-P WIFI in my cart and will wait until it is discounted or the super sale days next week when Amazon has theirs and Newegg/Best buy will likely try to match with their sales
As the stuff I got so far was already on specials coupons etc I didnt wait, especially the $729 after coupon on the MSI 7900 XT i got

Is this the RAM kit you have? F5-6000J3636F16GX2-TZ5NR

Was that cheaper than $100? I must have missed it, but I prefer low profile anyways. But if it was cheaper I may have bought it because I can mount my fans higher up. I actually do that already but I like having extra clearance with the side panel.

CPU and RAM already shipped so I'll just keep the Flare X.

No mine is the CAS 30 which we suspect is exact same chip modules as your Flare X but only the RGB had $7 off promo
Still net $107 so more expensive by a few $$ than your FlareX

qvl is nothing more than a list of what was put in and used, nothing more.

enough times where i have had qvl ram not even doing POST, when non-qvl ran fine out of box,
incl Gskills not running past jedec, while the (cheap) corsair everyone was recommending to stay away from,
where even doing xmp without trouble..

@Steevo
+99% of ppl that are gpu/vram limited are better off using 16/32gb and spend the saving on a bigger gpu...
ignoring your better off using 2 sticks (not 4).

I seriously spent probably 20+ hours researching MB's and could not find any reason to spend more that the $199 for the MSI PRO X670-P. I have the money to spend another $80 on the X670E Tomahawk but they were so close in spec I couldn't waste that $$ so pulled the trigger yesterday. (FYI, I wanted 4 M.2 SSD slots as using as gaming and PLEX server)
I actually think they have slashed the price on purpose due to people not buying it for the lack of IO shield and other non-technical reasons as it is cheaper than the B650 version!

Been a long time since I built a new PC but here is mine - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2wn6DZ

I assume you mean A620 and stripped B650 as MB nowadays are overpriced..
Technical spec of the MB I got is more in line with a currently$250+ board depending on your needs

sure, but i question when someone with the funds for a x800X/3D, needs to save on the board.
past has shown its not always paying off going "cheap", if they decide to upgrade cpu later.

ignoring for a moment that if not pressed for time, you might get a deal on something better, without draining the bank.
i never had issues buying hw at msrp (while every forum recommends to "wait"), or adjust on other items,
to make sure psu/mb and cooling are never the "bottom" tier ones you can get, short of being for a <12y old.

i havent messed with AM5, but the cheapest MSI x570 i used for builds, were still enough to run any AM4 cpu (short of ocing 5950).

@Fry178 ignoring brands or different SKUs within a chipset, all tiers have It's usefulness.

For the A620, I would avoid unless the only thing you do is game on a budget. That means lower end CPU, low memory freq and low to mid-range video card.

None Extreme (E) X670 and B650 is also a option. PCIe slots are Gen4 and between the two is comes down to how many USB ports and M.2 sockets you want.

I think the absolutely most important part of a AM5 motherboard is the debug code thingy. Waiting on a LED doesn't tell you shit about the boot sequence. You'll be on Code 15 for up to 2-5 minutes per boot.

For my personal use I have brands I prefer because either I am more familiar with the quarks or it often fits my budget. As a reviewer... They are all good in their own ways :)
