I know a mod that would be good... One that allows ALL vendors to have 11,000 credits instead of just the Trade Authority. I keep having to go to Mercury and sleep to reset them. It interrupts the flow of my grind missions.

had any fun space battles? i feel like thats the weakest point of the game for me. i'd love to take on like 20 pirate ships with a fleet of my own 7 or 8, and use tactics in rts mode, but zoom in to regular starfield aiming mode when i want. damn, such a missed opportunity.
Well, one fun thing that I've started doing ever since I got the Star Eagle is capturing ships and flipping them with the Star Eagle's uber-EM cannons. The only pain in the butt is when I capture a pirate ship and it has contraband on board that no matter where I search, I can't find it. Now I just go to the Den in the Wolf system and register them there. The contraband magically disappears so I think that it's probably a bug.

yeah the low credit amount on vendors was a dumb idea, it just makes things a bit more frustrating than they needed to be. i guess having limitations of several kinds is kind of the idea though, its kind of a tough design choice in all honesty so I will let it slide.

Not really amazing, more like easy. I'm currently at level 41 and I only have 13 powers and have been piddling around a lot. I have nowhere near all the activities or side quests done that are on my Quest list either. Not sure how far I am in the game, but it still feels like I'm not close to the end yet.

I finished the UC questline remaining as neutral as possible, as I saw no difference when trying it either way. I did it that way in hopes if there IS a DLC to continue the UC questline where we finish dealing with the Terramorphs, I might have a better chance of having a choice whether to use the Aceles or Microbe if it is tied to the choices we made prior in the UC questline. So far I've done just one of the follow up quests Tuala assigns, and of the 3 types offered I took the specimen sample collection one. It was on Tirna II where you have to collect samples from several large "Cockroach" species. I just zapped em with the Disruptor and did it non lethal. It wasn't anything too interesting in and of itself, but in scanning as many flora and fauna as I could, there were some close calls with giant crabs. There was also a large deserted barracks base taken over by Ecliptic that had some contraband, and a stranded guy to escort back to his space ship.

I might try the other two mission types Tuala offered, but as it looks like sample collecting doesn't involve Terramorphs or Aceles, I'll probably not opt to do anymore of those.

Those are just post-questline radiant quests, on my game it asked me to do that on a planet called Verne II which is on the far end of the galaxy, lol

I'm afraid there's very little chance that quest branch will ever be modified in the future

I've never had a problem with vendor credits, the kiosk at the ship services at every port has 5000, most other vendors carry between 5000 to 12000, usually you can offload your goods, do away with a pile of credits and some rare ammo just fine

To be honest I have very limited interest in the battle/fighting aspects of the game, or indeed pretty much any first person game. I'm in it for the experience of the story and the world(s), something the fighting is usually incidental to, or frequently just an annoyance.

I find the regular fighting in Starfield refreshingly straightforward, with no fancy combo-moves or such of the kind I just find annoyingly pointless and an almost universal negative aspect in terms of whether or not a game is enjoyable. The space battles I think are pretty much perfect for me, in that they are functionally avoidable by loading up your ship with automatic überweapons which will largely do the fighting for you.

So that's basically my take on fighting in this and most other games. I'm very much a casual gamer who absolutely do *not* want to spend time on mastering complex fighting mechanics, making Starfield (and other BethSoft games) pretty much ideal.

Hey guys, in my searching I've read Linnaeus IV-b is a good planet to start an outpost on due to abundant resources there and nearby in that system. It's level 45 and I'm currently level 42. Is that why it's not showing on my star map? It's supposed to be just to the right of Olympus as you look at the star map.

It's true. As long as you're properly-equipped, you can just button-mash with joy and watch the enemies fall. There is something to be said about that.
The space battles I think are pretty much perfect for me, in that they are functionally avoidable by loading up your ship with automatic überweapons which will largely do the fighting for you.
And you can always run away if you don't want to engage them.
So that's basically my take on fighting in this and most other games. I'm very much a casual gamer who absolutely do *not* want to spend time on mastering complex fighting mechanics, making Starfield (and other BethSoft games) pretty much ideal.
I personally love the fact that it caters to my favourite style of combat-game, stealth and sniping (here's why I adore the Far Cry series). It's a very versatile game in that regard.

There's a very special spot on Bessel-3b that has Aluminum, Cobalt, Iron, Water and Argon all in the same place. What makes Bessel-3b extra-special is that you can set up your extractors, sleep for 1 local hour (which is like 58 UTC hours) and your extractors will all be full. Here's a video about it:
This is assuming that you haven't already discovered it.

Yeah I think one of the outpost guides I watched recommended Bessel, and he used only Solar Arrays for power. Is it sunny enough there to use solar? I wish the planet enviro indicator would have some kind of icon showing which power type works best.

I'm actually not surprised an extractor itself would fill up fast, because they have very little storage, which is why all the outpost guides recommend having at least two solid storage containers linked to them.

After finding Linneaus IV-b, I explored it a bit and found it's terrain and resource mapping wasn't at all like what one guy showed where he managed to find a spot where his beacon detected 6 resources in one spot. They made this part of resource finding so random it takes all the fun out of it for me. You usually at most only see two resources in one spot, and if there's a 3rd, one of them is sure to not be one you're looking for.

One of the guides I saw also said the interplanetary and intersystem cargo platforms can be hit and miss, at times ceasing to function without warning, which involves removing them and building them all over again. This has made me wonder if resource farming is even worth it. While building an outpost, I was confused as to why my extractors made no sound or movement even when placed on a proper vein and linked to a power source above it's requirement. I LOVED using workshops in FO4, but here building is a mess.

I also find it very misleading they call the first outpost structure you use a "beacon", which from vague memory is what they called them in FO4, but for good reason. In FO4, once you set up a beacon, it would actually act as a lure to bring in friendlies looking to settle down and work. The only ones my so called beacon on Linneaus IV-b seemed to attract was a group of several Va'Ruun Zealots, whom were hostile and couldn't be talked to let alone reasoned with.

It's a game that can be both fun and immersive, but also aggravating and disappointing, especially when some of the things hyped most are near broken. I was not at all surprised when one of the better, more detailed outpost guides I watched recommended a gamepad for building, as it is much harder with keyboard/mouse. I was not at all surprised when one of the better, more detailed outpost guides I watched recommended a gamepad for building, as it is much harder with keyboard/mouse. I feel the ship builder as well could use some KB/M refinement. They clearly rushed many things in this game, it lacks polish in lots of ways. I am also still getting more crashes than I can deal with unless I save constantly, and I'm on the latest update.
Yea there are a lot of little annoyances. The pixel hunting for ideal outpost locations is aggravating. Worse for me is the quest arrows which last like 2 secs then disappears. It's extra harsh after a bunch of cold ones and flower lol, I get so lost. I had to find this mod cuz of it.

Actually, he recommends wind. Bessel-3b wouldn't be conducive to solar because it has very long days and very long nights (1 local hour = 58 UTC hours). I have wind turbines set up all over the place.

That's not why they fill up fast. In-game, they take as long to fill on Bessel-3b as they would on Jemison because extraction rates are based on UTC hours. They are blazingly fast to us in the real world because all you have to do to fill them is sleep on Bessel-3 for one local hour. To us, one local hour of sleep is a few seconds but in-game, those few seconds have 58x the production impact that they would on Jemison because for every local hour that passes, 58 hours pass in-game due to time dilation (which is based on gravity). Mercury is a similar example as sleeping on Mercury for 6 local hours is enough to reset every vendor's credit amount in the game, because Mercury has such low gravity, time moves more slowly. Bessel-3b is a small moon so time passes even slower there than on Mercury.

So, if you were to have you extractor on a planet like Jemison, you would have to sleep for 58 hours to get the same production output of sleeping for one hour on Bessel-3. In-game, 58 UTC hours will pass but to you and me, sleeping for an hour on one planet takes exactly the same amount of our real-world time as it does on another. So instead of having to play for x number of hours to see any significant results, on Bessel-3b, you only need to have your character sleep somewhere on the planet (even in your ship if that's all you have) for one or two hours to fill all of your extractors.

Now, Bethesda's amount of time dilation is an order of magnitude greater than what occurs in our universe, but it's still pretty cool that they have it as an aspect of the game. It's just a little thing that makes it a lot more fun for the person playing.

Well, my outpost on Bessel-3b has five resources within its build circle. I have Aluminum, Cobalt, Iron, Nickel and Water. Credits-wise, having water is especially good because while you have to put mineral extractors on veins, you can put water collectors literally anywhere in the outpost's build circle.

Well, it depends on what you want out of it. If you want money, then hell no, it's not worth it but it does give you a good amount of XP. If you want money, just farm some guns. If you're unaware of how to do gun farming, it's pretty easy.

1) Get a crap-tonne of Polymer
2) Get a crap-tonne of Titanium
3) Fly to the Masada system
4) Switch to "Very Hard" difficulty
5) Land on any planet you like, wherever you like (I would recommend avoiding the local wildlife on a level 75 world at very hard difficulty)
6) Place an outpost beacon
7) In build mode, go to the displays section, scroll down to weapons case and choose the large/heavy weapons case.
8) Place as many of those on the ground as you have enough resources (Polymer and Titanium) for.
9) Quicksave
10) Load the quicksave you just made
11) All weapons cases will now have high-level weapons+ammo in them.
12) Open every case and collect the weapon and ammo inside them.
13) Go to the Outpost Beacon and delete the outpost.
14) All the Polymer and Titanium you used will be returned to your inventory.
15) Go sell the guns for pure profit.

Now, keep in mind that you should only do this once at a time because it's a lot of mass and while Trade Authority Vendors have 11,000 credits per cycle, other vendors have, at most, 5,000 credits so you might not be able to sell them all right away and that's a lot of mass to be lugging around or taking up space in your cargo hold.

I believe that it's called a beacon because it tells you where on the planet (or moon) that your outpost is.

You have just described the vast majority of games from past 20 years.

I use a gamepad for everything because I game in my living room on my sofa and use my 55" 4K TV as my gaming monitor. It's GLORIOUS!!! :D

I truly think this game would be so much better if they made it 10x more condensed and focused on the main story more. Hell, even if they made the main storyline incorporate sidequests it would be better. The loop of grabbing artifacts and powers on barren planets... Why didn't they choose planets with life on them? They specifically direct you to the most boring areas of the game....

Don't even get me started on the lack of DLSS and loading screens. It's blatantly obvious DLSS was omitted on purpose.

Actually, he recommends wind. Bessel-3b wouldn't be conducive to solar because it has very long days and very long nights (1 local hour = 58 UTC hours). I have wind turbines set up all over the place.

That's not why they fill up fast. In-game, they take as long to fill on Bessel-3b as they would on Jemison because extraction rates are based on UTC hours. They are blazingly fast to us in the real world because all you have to do to fill them is sleep on Bessel-3 for one local hour. To us, one local hour of sleep is a few seconds but in-game, those few seconds have 58x the production impact that they would on Jemison because for every local hour that passes, 58 hours pass in-game due to time dilation (which is based on gravity). Mercury is a similar example as sleeping on Mercury for 6 local hours is enough to reset every vendor's credit amount in the game, because Mercury has such low gravity, time moves more slowly. Bessel-3b is a small moon so time passes even slower there than on Mercury.

So, if you were to have you extractor on a planet like Jemison, you would have to sleep for 58 hours to get the same production output of sleeping for one hour on Bessel-3. In-game, 58 UTC hours will pass but to you and me, sleeping for an hour on one planet takes exactly the same amount of our real-world time as it does on another. So instead of having to play for x number of hours to see any significant results, on Bessel-3b, you only need to have your character sleep somewhere on the planet (even in your ship if that's all you have) for one or two hours to fill all of your extractors.

Now, Bethesda's amount of time dilation is an order of magnitude greater than what occurs in our universe, but it's still pretty cool that they have it as an aspect of the game. It's just a little thing that makes it a lot more fun for the person playing.

Well, my outpost on Bessel-3b has five resources within its build circle. I have Aluminum, Cobalt, Iron, Nickel and Water. Credits-wise, having water is especially good because while you have to put mineral extractors on veins, you can put water collectors literally anywhere in the outpost's build circle.

Well, it depends on what you want out of it. If you want money, then hell no, it's not worth it but it does give you a good amount of XP. If you want money, just farm some guns. If you're unaware of how to do gun farming, it's pretty easy.

1) Get a crap-tonne of Polymer
2) Get a crap-tonne of Titanium
3) Fly to the Masada system
4) Switch to "Very Hard" difficulty
5) Land on any planet you like, wherever you like (I would recommend avoiding the local wildlife on a level 75 world at very hard difficulty)
6) Place an outpost beacon
7) In build mode, go to the displays section, scroll down to weapons case and choose the large/heavy weapons case.
8) Place as many of those on the ground as you have enough resources (Polymer and Titanium) for.
9) Quicksave
10) Load the quicksave you just made
11) All weapons cases will now have high-level weapons+ammo in them.
12) Open every case and collect the weapon and ammo inside them.
13) Go to the Outpost Beacon and delete the outpost.
14) All the Polymer and Titanium you used will be returned to your inventory.
15) Go sell the guns for pure profit.

Now, keep in mind that you should only do this once at a time because it's a lot of mass and while Trade Authority Vendors have 11,000 credits per cycle, other vendors have, at most, 5,000 credits so you might not be able to sell them all right away and that's a lot of mass to be lugging around or taking up space in your cargo hold.

I believe that it's called a beacon because it tells you where on the planet (or moon) that your outpost is.

You have just described the vast majority of games from past 20 years.

I use a gamepad for everything because I game in my living room on my sofa and use my 55" 4K TV as my gaming monitor. It's GLORIOUS!!! :D

Don't you think it's strange though that they only account for a variance of time between systems, and not how different gravities in reality would also drastically affect how much things weigh? Instead they literally have everything you carry weigh the exact same amount everywhere.

I'm putting off any further serious resource gathering, and will not attempt any further building until I get to NG+ 10, because of the way NG+ works. I find it even a bit insulting the game encourages you to do such things with literally NO warning it won't show up in NG+.

I couldn't finish the game. I got bored. I have an outpost on Bessel 3B and yeah, it us a good exploit. Then get tons of iron and aluminum and you can make those structural things which doesn't garner you a lot of money but sure as hell give a ton, and I mean ton, of experience quickly.

Anyway, the whole temple thing is so badly done it just made me realize how lazy developers are.

The quest regarding terramorphs and the crimson fleet are the only 2 that are actually good in the whole game. Other missions are broken for me and my save is too where my ship constantly vanishes when I'm in a city.

Yeah those were the only two that really moved the meter for me as well. For the most part I feel like I wasted time gathering resources and trading up weapons, only to find they disappear in NG+. Can't say I've had any ships vanish though. Have you tried verifying game file integrity?

I'm at player level 45 and just got the Power From Beyond quest to finally reappear again. Don't know what triggered it really. It finally shows as a completed quest now, but I only have 23 powers, and am still missing one.

I feel like the only real option now is to grind through the 10 NG+ playthroughs you're allowed, using 9 just to collect artifacts again and as many subsequent upgrades as I can get on each power, then use the 10th to try and play on hardest mode and gather and mod some weapons, and build a decent ship. Although if you get a better Starborn ship each NG+, that might suffice.

I guess what was said above about finding things that farm XP rings true, because you in fact need a fair bit of skill points to build/mod the best ships and weapons. I just hope when the game stops leveling the player after 90, your XP still goes toward points to improve skills.

Oh wow! 84 on the original playthrough? I think I wrapped my original around level 30, amazing!

The level scaling is very weird, even on very easy the enemies tend to sponge up hard past level 70.
Weapons stop scaling around 50 I believe, isn't the 'Advanced' or 'Calibrated' range the last set you get?

Beyond that you have to scale up by combining affixes on your armor and stuff, and crafting mods on everything. But enemy health/mitigation does scale per level.

If you want top end combat performance just skip the conversational and manipulative (social?) skillsets, At 90 you have enough points to min max pretty well.

I truly think this game would be so much better if they made it 10x more condensed and focused on the main story more. Yeah and most strangely even unique sites on planets are zero gameplay just take in the sights for five minutes and you've wasted five minutes being at a place. I don't get it :D The london monument for example. Its like... Okay. Nice pillar. Bye. I even tried climbing it and got pretty high, no collectible there nothing.

I worded it badly because I post here when I'm bored during dead times at work and sometimes have to leave a post alone for a period of time and then get back to it, sometimes completely forgetting what I had already written and not always remembering to proof-read it before I hit "Post reply". That sometimes leads to unintentional and bone-headed grammatical mistakes. I remember one post where I literally said the same thing thrice in different parts of the post. All I could do was say:

Sure, but I can also sprint around carrying my ship's entire cargo hold worth of stuff (almost 3Mg) so that makes no sense either. Also, in the lodge basement, the little box on the table at the bottom of the stairs up against the research station has literally infinite capacity so I use it to store things that I don't want to accidentally sell (like my Mantis Armour and Helmet). I once had over 5Mg of resources sitting in a little box on a small table in the lodge's basement. I think it's a fair trade-off.

Yeah, that is kinda crappy. Although, with exploits like Bessel-3b and gun farming, it's not really hard to get a head-start with the right know-how. ;)

I even tried climbing it and got pretty high, no collectible there nothing.

Really? I found the Freestar Ranger quests to be pretty good and the ship you get for completing them, the Star Eagle, is one of the best ships in the game. Its EM weapons make capturing enemy ships a breeze, its laser cannons eat shields almost as fast as the Shieldbreaker's auto-turrets and its twin missile launchers deal incredible hull damage. It also has shields that can withstand being outnumbered 5 to 1 against Crimson Fleet and it has a standard cargo capacity of 2.28Mg.

I've been using it as my main ship for quite awhile now and absolutely love it!

I really wish that we could make completely custom-designed ships though because I would totally build one that looks like this:

I buy and sell ships all the time so I probably wouldn't even notice (unless it was Razorleaf, Shieldbreaker or Star Eagle). :laugh:

That said, there seems to always be Homer Simpson moments in these type of games for me, so it's not like I'm not used to it. :rolleyes:

RIP one of the few potential reasons to downgrade from Win 8.1 to 10. Others being D2R, D4, RE4, RE: Village, and Cybermeme 2077. DX12 doesn't seem to have much going for it considering it's been out for a whopping 8 years. This is a longer time span than it took to release Crysis 1-3 or Dragon Age 1-3, yet you can count on one hand the amount of interesting DX12 titles.

Well that's one thing that you have up on me because I didn't know there was a box in my room. I think that I tried sleeping there once when I was given it and I don't think that I've ever returned to it. One thing that makes me laugh though is how every time I sleep, I wake up with Sarah there and she makes some lewd comments. :laugh:

The cope is strong with this one. Windows 8 is one the worst windows in history. Literally designed for touch screens and tablets but on a desktop interface with no touch screen.

Plenty of good DX12 titles, you just don't like them, not the same as there not being good ones.

Yeah I got in the habit of doing a short nap and dropping off resources there to heal and lighten up after each quest, especially after collecting artifacts as well. For me it's Andreja waking up saying things like how amazing I am and how she can't wait to "learn" more next time! Which is perfect because I really enjoyed my Spider-man Remastered run on Amazing mode! I feel like telling her, "Yeah babe, I had a swinging good time too" (in my best Austin Powers accent), but it's just not a dialog option. :D
