Welp, out of pure boredom, I set out to have my own spin at a B52-MMX CPU.
View attachment 314763

What the Genesys B52 MMX was originally? A modifed SL2W8 300MHz Pentium II, with new L2 cache chips (which surprisingly, despite being 5ns, were faster than Intel's 4.4ns chips.) and a few resistor modifications.

I never knew that even existed.... https://www.cpushack.com/2021/08/12/forgotten-italian-cpu-the-genesys-b52-mmx/

Seems that Genesys added "better" cache and making it stock vs stock faster (5%) then intel. Mind you that 5% in that era was... fast already compared to todays standard.

If you are trying to install Windows 95 on an old system and attempting to use a CF card, I don't think it will work.
Sure it will.
It will be seen as a standard IDE hard drive device. The CF spec is ATAPI 5 so it is 100% compatible with everything from Windows 3.0 onward.

There is no problem with the CF card i am using as a hard drive, it is a industral one. Before that message comes up it says something about the bios?.Ir is only on there a few seconds. What should it be in the Bios?
That looks like the BIOS is not seeing your CF card. Make sure your card settings are correct and make sure the drive parameters are set properly in the BIOS. Additionally, you might need to create your OS partition with FDisk before begining the Windows install.

Thanks once again for your valued information Lex :) I was under the impression you could use a CF card on any windows os.o_O plus the fact it is a industral one that is not seen as a removable drive ,I will give that a try Lex:)
I am not sure what to do FDISK that is o_OI just wish things worked out of the box.:( I am trying to get 2000 on there.Do i need to create a partition or just press enter?Io_O I will try partition as i usually just press enter.Nothing worked when i tried to partition it. :( It came up with 785 again.:(4

NTLDR is missing the two green slots on the edge of the board don,t work :(That should not stop the problems i am having.I will try another board. They look all right to me. :) I am now trying the Pentium 4.2 6 board the one i got with that really heavy big case which i want to give away.Shame no one lives in London on this forum. :(This screen is a lot better than the other one i was using. :)

YW. The general rule is if DOS can see the drive and fdisk/format it, any Windows 9X OS will see it too.

you need to create a partition and mark it as bootable then you need to format it and then install the OS on it

Do i do it with mini tool partion and what size should it be on a 30gb and 16gb ? o_OI have managed to get a os on one of the Cf cards . It goes all the way to the end then says it will restart. Then starts the whole process of putting the os on the drive again :( How and why does it do that, and how can i stop it doing that?o_O
When i try to booting the CF card after taking out the disc it says *invalid Partion table*

Sorry @Greenslade, the only experience I have with CF is with a really old digital camera. I never tried to adapt it as an HDD.

Oh man I didn’t even realize Greenslade was talking about Compact Flash! Yeah idk about that, I mean theoretically if it was formatted correctly, it should work with the IDE adapter but the read/write is going to be super slow and limited. Well, I guess it probably doesn’t matter since the system itself is probably older lol never mind!

All his videos are good, his the numfer one Retro Aussie you utuber :)
I watched that one. The P4 didn’t do too bad! Curious how the Pentium D Extreme edition with hyperthreading would do now…..

Can someone give me a link to Gparted i got the live one i just want the basic version. It sounds like a lot of work. o_O Windowa 2000 put on a IDE drive it tooh an age to do it.If i can get it on a IDE i should be able to get it on a cf card. o_O

@Greenslade, why exactly are you trying to have a CF card as your primary hard drive? It's going to be slow as hell man. Surely there are some decent used IDE 2 to 4 gig hard drives available in the UK.

Not in my experience. CompactFlash cards are much faster than period correct hard drives. Granted, a SATA SSD hooked up to a SATA to IDE adapter is going to be the ultimate, but CF is more than fast enough and is very handy for easy removal and transferring files to & from.

Not really. FAT32 can be used perfectly on anything upto 2TB. In the early days, the 4GB limit and then again the 32GB limit was an artificial software limitation. Those limits have been gone for at least 18years.
Probably. I just know that I have had issues on some electronics that required FAT32 formatting and I tried to use a larger drive.

That has been a thing. Was it recently though? If you use a good utility like AOMIE, MiniTool or Easeus, FAT32 partitions are a breeze on any drive below 2TB.

Not a computer. Handheld electronic device. Also a SD card, and they can be unreliable at best.

I have seen videos about them about them being faster than period correct hard drives. That is why i want them for changing a OS.Plus the fact they are quiter than IDE drives And good .for Retro builds :) If i can get them to work as a boot drive. And i would like to get my SD to IDE card to work asa boot drive.I will have to buy a floppy drives that i have just show the light. But i did see that they might not be working because of the Bios.
