If any of you need one of these silly heatsinks for your SSD. Amazon currently has them for £7.51 - Useful to cool your Gen 5 SSDs and fitted on to graphic cards or motherboards to cool some toasty VRMs.

We can get them, $14.

yeah, I know but I don't do non-sensical purchases anymore, it was just a fun idea. I put all my extra money into a high yield savings account these days. I am getting pretty good at not blowing my money these days, other than every iteration of Steam Deck that comes out anyway, I can't help it, love SteamOS and my Deck's too much.

R.M can also be pretty garbage although thats not surprising since ParcelForce are Royal Mail except PF are dedicated to handling the majority of parcels.
Royal mail have been alright 8/10 for me, but parcelforce has always been hit and miss.
DHL has surprisingly been ok,DPD had screwed up once for me.
I've never had an issue with RM, although DPD seems to be the most reliable in my area.

Hermes is the cherry on top of my shitlist. Always late, often by weeks, and their lost parcel ratio is through the roof.

I have had stuff marked as delivered by them and i was in all day, and had a driver mark an item delivered then say he didn't know where he left it. Imo they should have been closed down, they are useless. Maybe they thought no one would realise they changed their name, but the stench of shit followed the name.

Same here, the amount of times I have had the online tracking changed to "attempted to deliver but no one at home" when I was there all day waiting for the item, they just lie and I mean literally every other RM delivery, they must know we know they are lying otherwise they would have dropped a card through the letterbox :kookoo:

I mean look at the price of a 1st class stamp, a decade ago it was 60 pence, today it is £1.25 and will go up again shortly, more than double in a decade and they still can't get their crap together.

Ive had a long list of issues with R.M/P.F - you can book them for a collection and they wont turn up until a week or over a week after the agreed collection date being one of them.

I have had stuff marked as delivered by them and i was in all day, and had a driver mark an item delivered then say he didn't know where he left it. Imo they should have been closed down, they are useless. Maybe they thought no one would realise they changed their name, but the stench of shit followed the name.

I understand that it can be pretty annoying but at the same time delivery drivers are being worked to the absolute bone and forced to meet delivery quotas for 'x' amount of parcel deliveries per day and sometimes they wont make the quota due to traffic or other circumstances so they mark it down as delivered when it isnt but they'll come back and deliver it the next day.

Ive had couriers turn up at my door as late as 9-10pm when they should have finished at 8pm. That was a super late delivery!

Ive rarely had a parcel which has been totally destroyed due to mishandling by couriers although I have seen some of them throwing them over fences into front or back gardens and other bad practices like that, its never happened to me but I do also hear about it occasionally.

-- another issue is the companies mass hiring of foreigners on temporary contracts who might not be familiar with the areas they are working in and get completely lost, dont know where they are or where your house is when they are trying to make a delivery but they are under pressure to complete all the deliveries so dont have time to seek out your humble abode. Some residential villages and housing estates can be highly confusing with block A's, B's, C's and not knowing the layout of the village or estate etc etc. And when they are finally familiar with the area, they quit, get moved elsewhere or someone else takes their place and we're back to square one with a clueless courier again.

I get that, but some people out there stay home in order to receive their package, prob lots of people, I could understand maybe in bigger cities where getting around is much harder but in a small town less so.

I ordered something from amazon last week, went from before 1pm to 4:30-5:30 to 10pm, never turned up, then was marked as sometime between the 2-4th of december if you don't get the delivery you can request a refund the day after the 4th. I cancelled it. it was supposedly guarenteed before 1pm.

I ordered a friend of mine a bday gift just two weeks ago, it was shipped from Yorkshire UK somewhere, to Shropshire UK, I paid for shipping and everything, legit company, they ended up charging her 3 quid extra because she wasn't home on the day of delivery and it had to be delivered next day, it was delivered my royal mail... wth kind of policy is that? she had to pay the mailman in cash... never heard of such a thing in all my life. I apologized to her, it was not my intention to cost her money. heh it was a bday gift :(

that does not happen in USA, in USA they just put a sticker on your door and say delivery will be attempted again tomorrow.

Weird that, didn't even know it was legal for a RM postie to accept cash off anyone.

Same, never heard of RM charging for a re-delivery or having to hand cash to the postman. Major alarm bells going off. I get that people want bday gifts to arrive on their bday, but how hard is it to go down to the post office later in the day/the next day to pick it up?

maybe it's part of a RM post-covid "new business direction and policies"

Seems though not sure if it is true, you can tip a postie, some make a packet, but i'm thinking what happed with the one in question was iffy though.

Maybe the problem is partly us? I mean, we all order stuff, rarely ever visit any store other than a quick grocery run, and expect deliveries to be quick and on-the-point. Workload on delivery companies must be through the roof. I don't even know why some companies still bother having stores open.

Considering how good Amazon.co.uk is, yeah, I also wonder. It's taken a good 5 years (and an epidemic) for Amazon.ca to get to a level of convenience where the UK already was

RM is in no different a boat than Canada Post. Both suck balls and don't comprehend how to get with the times. Both can argue that they offer much better employment conditions than the Amazon sweatshop, but uncompetitive is still uncompetitive and the customer only cares that they get what the service advertised.

That's an amazing relationship that people have cultivated with their postman. But with the way the industry is quickly going, that's probably going the way of the dodo equally quickly.

I wouldn't say its partly us but more of society progressing to the point of wanting "convenience" over anything now, pretty much we want to get stuff from 1 single place and not scavenge through multiple stores/sites to find certain items.
Postage has been ok 8/10 times for me as I don't live near any major cities.

I can't disagree, however if you buy from a company that has various delivery options and we pay for one of them, I expect to get it within that timeframe, the contract therefore is with the seller not the courier so if I don't get my item within the period I pay for I expect a refund, many sellers make profit out of shipping costs apparently, especially when using Royal Mail BUT, if I get free shipping with an item then I am happy to be patient but you are right in so much as many of us want our item yesterday and not tomorrow.

Update on the shipping issue, my friend was in a rush and didn't explain it properly. There was no cash exchanged, but Royal Mail placed a sticker on her door saying she had to login to pay for the delivery. It was delivered the day before, but she wasn't home, and they delivered the next day and she got it and the sticker. So she still has yet to login to the royal mail account on the sticker and pay the fee, but will do so soon she said. She said this isn't the first time this has happened to her, but I still don't understand... I have a shipping charge under my receipt, that I paid for when I initially placed the order... I have never heard of anything like this, and it sounds like a shit system. Def does not happen in USA.

edit: I just contacted the company. They said they will refund the shipping, basically what happened was they must have not calculated the package weight correctly. My friend still has to pay Royal Mail, but I will be paying back my friend through their shipping refund. Strange, never dealt with this before.

This has never happened to me, either. If your friend already has the package, then why bother logging in to pay at all?

Because if the friend doesnt pay no tolls. Then Royal Mail dont get no rolls.

The way it works out is the recipient of the parcel or letter is responsible and has to pay any extra fees or outstanding costs if postage fees at origin was incorrect. The company has already admitted their error and refunded postage but Royal Mail as the courier still needs to be paid what they are owed otherwise theyve basically been short changed.

Imagine working for £10p/h then given £7p/h instead because of a payroll error. Youre going to want that money back.

My friend said she is going to pay it, and I agree with your logic. A strange system though, never came across this in America before. Pretty sure they just return to sender if the fee paid is not correct on a prepaid label. I am unsure on this though, as I always pay my fee at a counter with real people measuring/weighing it for me, so the price is never off to begin with. /shrug

Also - worst case scenario - if there are outstanding charges that havent been paid, either because you refuse to or just too lazy.

It will get to a point where they no longer give a fuck and hold on to your next lot of deliveries to your address. Be it parcels or regular mail, and its smart because the theory behind that is that youre going to need to go to your local depot/sorting office that services the local area and speak to the person there about why your mail isnt being delivered no more and you wont have no choice but to pay them to get your withheld parcels, letters and service back.

They arent going to send a baliff to your house to reclaim the money. They'll just stop delivering your mail.
