Neither

I game at 4k where cpu don't matter as much.

Got my 5700x cpu with 13% less performance than the 14900k at 4k (avg) for 400% less money (at the time)
Looking up prices on Amazon right now you could save a whopping $400 getting a 5700x over 14900K, That's pretty amazing and a lot of money that can go to a GPU for only a 13% difference at 4K.
(edit) Even 7800X3D your saving almost $230 for performance that's just about on par and consuming way less power.

I think AMD is harder to cool, but I cant say for sure yet.
"X" CPUs, yes. But the 7800X3D is so low on power consumption, that any fairly decent tower cooler can do the job. :)

What's risky, though, is coldplate designs on liquid cooling. Some work, some don't, and I can't find the logic in it. I have a be quiet! Silent Loop 2 280 mm which worked wonders on the i7-11700 with unlimited PL and the 7700X, but can't handle the X3D above circa 50 W for some reason. I tried remounting it multiple times, even with an offset mount, nothing helped. But then a Dark Rock 4 (non-pro) keeps it below 80 °C on colder days with a flat max boost under full load. I don't understand it, either.

I imagine, non-X AMD chips are a walk in the park compared to all the rest. If I could do 2023 all over again, I'd probably just buy a 7700 non-X, slap an el cheapo top flow cooler on it (I even have a Shadow Rock LP at hand) and call it a day. Not that I'm complaining, I couldn't be happier with the X3D. :)

I have e-cores and you're not "leaving 5% on the table" it's a stuttery disaster. Do not game on e cores.

Maybe the averages even out to 5%, but the performance is atrocious.

I haven't really noticed any stuttering with E-cores enabled, man. But then again, everyone should just be like me, build a dream rig and then go play genshin all day on it

The above situation is when only e-cores are enabled (so no p-core).

they're speaking of e-cores ONLY performance (only one p-core enabled, bc you cannot boot w/ just e-cores, and all software set to run on e-cores only)

I think AMD is harder to cool, but I cant say for sure yet. I know the wattage is high on Intel, but I run a similar wattage on 7nm AMD,, it can be a handful.

300w on 7nm is insane, at least with my low end cooling :D

I think I have a shot of that in the R23 thread somewhere.. like 323w or something..

Wasn't talking about cooling the cpu was talking about the VRM lmao.

Although I've set up a 7800X3D with a 30 usd deepcool single fan cooler and it handles it pretty easily not sure you could do that with a 14700k lol.

My bad it was a 35 usd thermalright one and I only used the center fan...

I mean, it'd be about the same as playing on a i7-6700K experience-wise. I can imagine why you'd feel like it stutters compared to the regular experience, but it's not all that bad imo

Don't understand the heater jokes, my GPU pumps out far more heat gaming, 320w, CPU about 50w. Maybe because i'm not at 4k, idk but surely 3440x1440 is harder to run than 1080 or normal 1440. I mean pure gaming, as i don't do benching, or any productivity with my rig.

You can probably do a suicide run or two at 7GHz by just keeping the PC outside in the open air, don't even need liquid nitrogen or Helium :pimp:

Your power reporting deviation is a bit off, but 57 °C fully loaded is mighty impressive anyway! :)

Interestingly, there's no power reporting deviation value on AM5 (or at least on my board).

Your power reporting deviation is a bit off,
It would go back to normal if I ran a single EPS 12v, but I run them both.

That's weird!

I'm running a single EPS myself. The X3D will never need two. I don't have the slightest clue why AMD specified a 120 W TDP (= 162 W PPT) when the whole CPU never needs more than 85 with 6000 MHz RAM and 1.3 VSOC.

The 7700X, on the other hand, runs at 142 W constantly under full load, unless your cooling can't handle it.

Edit: So basically, with the 7700X, faster RAM and higher VSOC can actually hurt performance in certain situations because it eats into the whole CPU's power target, making the cores lose a bit of boost.

Sometimes I'm wondering if I really need the X3D myself for 1440p UW with a 7800 XT, and maybe should go back to the 7700X and sell the X3D at a fairly decent price, but... nah! :D A constant max boost is so nice! Reminds me of the golden quad-core i7 era a bit. :D

X3D is a good CPU. The AM5 version would be nice for the clock and ipc boost.

... buy an 85 W gaming CPU on a platform that will receive lots more CPUs in the future ...
Are you sure that X670E boards will be able to use many more future generations of CPUs? I got a feeling they were happy to get it going somehow... "A platform" is comprised of different chipsets, different board manufacturers, different BIOS support etc.

As I wrote I believe that X670E and the first gen of AM5 CPUs was just a prelude to what AM5 is going to bring, and that AM5 REALLY SETS OFF in the next year.

Benchmark Scores Typical for non-overclocked CPU.
As I wrote I believe that X670E and the first gen of AM5 CPUs was just a prelude to what AM is going to bring, and that AM5 REALLY SETS OFF in the next year.
I just noticed perhaps ASRock recently and quietly putting ECC back into the spec sheets for several of their boards that I have been keeping an eye on. I'm more tempted to get 7800X3D now but 8000 series is just around the corner, perhaps I should wait just a bit longer. :banghead:

Are you sure that X670E boards will be able to use many more future generations of CPUs?

Not sure why he even released this video (Well for the views), we already know the 7800X3D is on average the better gaming chip right now.
