What are you playing?

playing last of us part 2 on my ps4, major improvement in terms of graphics, combat and stuff. Loved the first one as well but this one seems way more refined.

The sniping tool went a bit crazy on this one, combining two monitors of different specs and orientations into one screenshot. :wtf:
Was on my way to visit Masada, but I can't fly the damn plane with KB & mouse.

It took some time while I finally figured that the only games still capable to hold me for a respectable period of time are actually simulations.
It also means additional investments into hardware as well. But what's the point anyway of having a decent setup which plays nothing 99% of the time?
The upgrades (5800X3D and 6900XT) I did to my machine are paying off with this. Although the game favors Intel + Nvidia rigs.
Steam build 1.7.14.0 and everything looks and works great. I remember playing it with R5 3600 and 5700XT, this is different.
Edit: Adrenalin settings, 6900XT is far from using all of its muscles.

After watching the new PoP game videos I wanted to play Warrior Within again. It was my favorite in the series and I wanted to see if it holds up to my memory of it being amazing (almost 20 years now). Honestly, it did quite well. I played 5-6 hours in last 2 days and got about 80% of it. Weirdly, it's even better than I expected. Sure the weird camera movement and indecisive parkour controls cause you to jump to your death quite often but Recall system kinda helps to balance that. Combat is, although not very varied, still very fluid. Parkour is dynamic and great. Dahaka chases are still as thrilling as I remember and puzzles arent boringly dominant like in some newer similar titles so it doesnt bore you out. Although at very low resolution, cinematics are still ok. Graphics are of course very very dated, but wide screen patch works great and makes it very playable on new systems I think. It crashed 2 times so not too many problems with compatibility.
And I must say, loading screen animation still rocks to this day.

Had a visit from an old friend. We were talking about the downfall of gaming all around, and especially the absence of a true PC public tailored titles. The biggest game market being kids with their parents credit cards, but it's no wonder in the system where personal income is the ultimate life achievement.

To put the philosophy aside for a bit, we were watching some yt videos about PS1 era. It's the time we got into the world of true 3D video games, as no one could afford a PC or anything decent but cheap Chinese console copies, mostly Nintendo and Sega. Until PS came. I still have my niner, as we called the last serials of the original design, I also have a cabinet full of games. I need to change the laser motor, it's almost dead. Also, a new pair of gamepads, some kind of adapter to use it on one of my monitors if possible.

Games and series of game titles like GT, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Metal Gear Solid, Driver, Oddworld, Legacy of Kain, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Bushido Blade, Medal of Honor, Suikoden, Castlevania, Oldschool NFS, Colin McRae Rally, Tenchu, Panzer Front, Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, Chrono Cross, Tomb Raider, Doom, Quake, Syphon Filter, Sid Meier's Civilization, Sim City, The Winning Eleven, (and forgive me if I missed something and I know I did), make an impressive lineup for any platform at a given time. Even just couple of these in their respective genre, will put to shame most games nowadays. There are such exclusives like Bushido Blade, Parasite Eve, GT...

The conclusion: the games were indeed a product of a higher quality, refinement, and style. It's not that we're old, and the nostalgia BS, nope. My poor developers... It's insane what a lack of dignity and selling your best talents for money can do to the creative mind. Remember Todd Howard from the Morrowind days? Yup.

Just took my RX7 out for a rip. Still stock except for the air cleaner

It reminds me of a video I watched recently titled "You want a boring job" or something similar. Game developer was one example they used as a prestige job that sells on its prestige alone. Long working hours, lots of stress, relatively low pay and no benefits characterise such jobs. You sell your soul to the publisher these days. You have to be excellent at what you do and expect nothing in return. It's very easy to burn out in such conditions.

Boring jobs, on the other hand, have only pay and benefits to compete with. I'm sure I'd be a good PC technician or chef, as PC building and cooking are great passions of mine, but for the above reason, I'm good at a warehouse, thanks.

Sorry for the tangent. :ohwell:

Forza. Game has excellent control Physics.

As a response, I will give you Total War, Sleeping Dogs and BG3 as Games that are an example of what makes Gaming on PC good. You say Bushido Blade and I give you Shadow Tactics. Now we are getting Space Marine 2 and Dragons Dogma 2 but Rogue Trader is bigger than BG3. When you play Rogue Trader the argument about Gaming's downfall in quality is just a narrative. I mean Everspace 2 and Redout 2 are some serious Arcade feeling action on PC but Forza 8 is a joy to drive most cars but I still load up Project Cars 2 now and then.

I mean is there a better Arpg in terms of pickup and play than Torchlight 2? Now we have Grim Dawn and that is the best ARPG for people with those G key keyboards but there is some truth to your sentiment. Diablo 4 was so good at first but now is not even a Game I think about but Company of Heroes 3 is fun.

It reminds me of a video I watched recently...

Reminds me of a recent video that started by expressing that if you enjoy FM stop watching now. Then went on to depict the litany of reasons official and unofficial competitions are being rapidly suspended. Pending a long list of corrective measures that were formally rejected being instituted without inducing further complications impactful to accountability of bodies organizing said races inside this game.

[deep breath]

Joyful news from the other side, FH, continues to be equally hard to come by for similar reasons. Namely gravity mods and speedhacks nulling any expectation of untainted outcomes. +20 consecutive losses this evening also included an astounding number of top class starting vehicles. Not to leave out invisible racers popping out of thin air to cause havoc.

True, there are still good games in our grim, bleak 21st century reality. Passion projects and indie titles, like Stray have given me lots of joyful and emotional moments. I'd say, with modern technologies, the possibilities are endless. The fact that big-money AAA companies shart out the same thing again and again doesn't mean there are no hidden gems out there. :)

Most likely starting The Terminator: Future Shock (1995) today.

I actually bought all three of the first ones, and never played 2 and have 53mins on the other.

Did you play the first much?
Played a lot Titan Quest and Immortal Throne back in 2006-2008. 200hours~
Kinda crazy they released in 2017 Ragnarök, 2019 Atlantis and 2021 Eternal Embers.

Talking about late DLC Age of Mythology EX: Tale of the Dragon in 2016 for a 2002 game. Loved the original and the titans but the asian expac was so bad...

Hard run.jpg

This weeks Starcat found - never getting old or I to old for this neither :) btw found out that I could get the AMD overlay along by using Alt + Printscreen in the game nice when benchmarking / testing settings

Bought Alan Wake II in the Epic sale. Really disappointed. Apart from the insanely poor fps, it just bores me. I don't even want to persevere past the opening 10 minutes of gameplay. The whole 'case file' and 'case room' element feels badly contrived. And again, the terrible decision to cram it with RT tech seems to have ruined it. My £800 NV graphics card is on it's knees. Fucking shocking. Uninstalled it out of spite.

Let's go with Life is Strange remastered on PS4. I've finished that on PC but bought that for PS4 because.... why the hell not?

I tried Forza 8 multi player again today and must say I actually had fun. The Racing was good and I never got speared. The races also had the most "Im sorry" chats since I started playing. The problem that 8 faces is that 7 was so complete in terms of tracks that this seems like a DLC for that Game instead of a separate Game. I know FLC is coming but they said the same thing about Avengers. It is Friday though so once the Football is done (and I get my Daughter) I will be immersing myself into the 40K universe with the best Game that has been recently released Rouge Trader. I want to add that Space Marine to my cohort but battles are so satisfyingly difficult that it may be a while. Make sure you have lots of Med kits.
