I discovered something interesting.
The SSD on this review site is the same serial as SPDIF's SSD.
how could that happen?
Did SPDIF plagiarize images from this site?

SPDIF SSD

This review was posted in 2021.
Why did SPDIF lie about manufacturing in 2023?

On the one hand I was surprised to see the serial number, as it seemed he'd hidden the s/no in his previous posts (at least the few I've seen recently, when looking for support for the date code decoding).
Against that he could produce content for that review site, although the 2023 date would be a noticeable slip-up.

P.S. I see my long date code post says "Last edited by a moderator: 57 minutes ago" would someone like to say why - a clean up or a content change, as if the latter I'd like to know what has changed but has my name against it please?

If it was the firmware, then now everyone would have the newest firmware installed... But you still can buy with older firmware and no update available.
Specially 4TB versions still come with SVT01 firmware and there are NO updates, production date 2023.

And all the bad ones are from the time of the pandemic, check the whole topic. Also crucial and WD had bad driver in that time. It's not because SOMEONE say this it's true.
I did sell then and now hundreds of them in my shop, how about you? I have the info from REAL experience here in my shop.

Here as proof, a new 870EVO with the old firmware, made 10/2023

View attachment 329660

I even have 4TB versions with SVT02 and SVT03 firmware, all made in 2023. No update's available for them!!!
Perhaps it is because only certain firmware versions had the fatal flaw? Then again...

Here's Jay's video I mentioned about the Samsung (980) firmware problem. I'm getting too old.

Aren't all the SSDs with problems (870evo 970 980) 128-layer?
870qvo is 96-layer, but there were no problems.
Is it possible that the firmware for 128-layer was not created properly?

Not with the 870, that was due to bad nand used in the time of the pandemic, and no one could find chips on the market.
That's what I call the "early-covid-pandemic-QC-slump"

Even drives manufactured as recent as 2023 has failed in this thread,
so i don't really think it's due to the pandemic.

I'd like to update my situation: i contacted samsung to issue an RMA and in a couple weeks i was able to change my failing ssd with a new one. They sent me one with "production date: 2023 10 23" printed on the box, so it should not be defective, right?? :D

What is want to ask is: do i have to update the firmware?? i'm not sure an updated one is even available, but i keep seeing you guys arguing about firmware problems for new ssd too...

You have to install Samsung Magician, it will let you know when there's a firmware update.

Ok, just checked and no firmware update is available for that disk. One is available for my main one (860 EVO 250GB) but since i've used it for many years without problems i do not feel like updating that one is useful... Thanks for the help guys, really hoping this one lasts for long.

Ps: P4-630, nice music taste, i also have Heilung as my desktop background :p

Hello.

I bought "Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB" around in 2021 (3 years ago). It should be still in 5 warranty.

Yesterday Jan 20 2024 it stop working completely.

Model: Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB
Firmware: SVT01B6Q (original)

First alert was from Jan 8 2024 (12 days ago) before "crash".

What to do?

On disk are sensitive data (backups etc...). I cannot send disk to 3rd party but i still like redeemed the guarantee for broken product.

Thank you.

Is it still readable? Try to post screenshot with HD sentinel, if not working and unreadable, i guess all is lost. Then for forensics lab if data is needed.

Try it in an usb to sata case also if you can read it still. If it's dead completely, then it's most of time an electronics fault that can be repaired.
Most of times an shorted cap inside. There are guys on youtube that can repair this. First do the tests as i said to be sure.

Can your pc still detect it in the bios at boot? If yes, then maybe you still can save your data. I would try an usb enclosure.

So for now try if it's visible in the bios and if HD Sentinel can see it.

Hello.

Computer still detected "Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB"

This computer show "local disk X" without any data.. If I click on it loading infinity.

Computer Manager show disk on the list.

Task Manager show "disk X" as 100% with 0 reads and 0 writes.

Computer was very unresponsive.

I unplugged power from "disk X". Now computer works normal.

I can try with USB - SATA...

Before When it was plunged in. Program like Samsung Magician doesn't even started.

Ah that good news, not dead completely. Can you please try with HD sentinel? It's a free program to use. Then post a screenshot from this.
Download it here;

You should see something like this;

Screenshot 2024-01-21 200354.jpg

You also could use Samsung Magician if that still works.

NEVER unplug or plug in SSD when computer is still on!

Yes that can happen, if it not readable then many programs just hang. Then you could try a usb to sata cable or enclosure.

That 100 percent in windows task manager is because it try to read it, but not succeed, and keep trying it.

But you can read it as i see? Then maybe can save your data from it. Good luck for you, but another one from the time of pandemic that bites the dust... Almost always the same time that come back.

I really wonder what HD sentinel have to say about it, please also put screenshot from the SMART table in magician or HD sentinel. Yes you still have warranty and should get a brand new one. An usb to sata cable hopefully let's you save your data before send it back.

Hello.

I tried.

When I plugin with USB it show "disk" only for few seconds and then disappear. No data on it. HD sentinel, Samsung Magician, CrystalDiskInfo doesn't show target disk.

Target disk in image are partition D: and E:.

If I plugin direct into computer, windows doesn't load at all - it loading infinity...

I got this report before second disk gone.
First disk gone 2 days ago (Jan 20 2024) second disk gone today (Jan 22 2024).
Both from Jan 2021 (Made in Korea).

When even PC or programs don't see or can read it, i think it's dead. The drive itself still works, but the data can't be read. The year 2021 was real horror year for Samsung and it's customers. If your data is very important then you better not use it anymore and send it to an forensics lab to save the data. I think Samsung should recall all drives made in 2021! Because all drives from that time are real disaster.

If you have a backup then RMA them back to Samsung, so they give you new drives. Sorry there's not much else you can do at this point.

Look to the First post from the OP, completely the same problem and year as him...

Not only we did get Covid, also the drives made in that time are still sick from long term Covid...

Hello.

I have backup of all important data.

I need destroy data (pshichical or logical - not possible right now) on first disk before I can ship. I need their permission to do that. I can't afford 3rd party can access the data some how example: disk wake up for unknown reason.

Samsung should be recall these bad batches to prevent Samsung customers to lose their data.

European union should be informed - they will force recall these hard drivers.

I found bad sectors on newer Samsung SSD.

I contacted Samsung for RMA, shop who sell me and official service related to 5 year warranty.

If I know this problem before I can do something different - Samsung did not notify.

Yes agreed, Samsung should take their responsibility and recall all SSD drives from the year 2021.
Lucky you have a backup from everything! I would like to know what happens if you try Secure Erase them?

Samsung actually has a rather shady history, including exposing their workers to toxic working conditions and refusing to help them when they fell ill. They ripped off the surviving family members many times, and worked to discredit and discourage them. After decades of doing this, they finally admitted to wrong-doing.

In deceice manager its called: MZVPV256.

What would be a good upgrade for this? samsung 980 pro of better 990 pro?

Wil this card work in the current m2 slot?

Witch one you takes is dependent on what PCIe connection you have available. Is it PCIe 2,3 or 4? How much lanes? If you know that, you can choose with M.2 SSD you will buy.

The one installed now is PCIe 3.0, but maybe your laptop accepts PCIe 4? Check that first.

I am telling gibberish...:kookoo: The 980Pro is also PCIe 4.0, so with one you buy? You can choose in 990 or 980 Pro, both will work in your computer! The fastest is 990Pro...

Just remember they both will work at 50% it's speed if your laptop only has PCIe 3.0. Then an better option is the Samsung 980 or the Samsung 970EVO Plus, these are PCIe 3.0.
