i recently bought this pc, from pichau, names thor III. it comes with this ssd.
at first glance, when i was correcting drivers poblems, because of the gpu driver, i noticed how slow the system was. i formatted it. for installing windows, it was an torture, i wish i never do this again on this ssd.
its reading speeds are great, 550MB/s, but in writing, nnothing more than 190MB/s with the average being around 150MB/s.
i posted this while the ssd was pretty clean, just with windows installed and some games. the ssd on this mmoent has 186GB free, and on crystal disk mark have less than 1TB of total writes. is on 100%, and i didnt use paging for the time i did the test. the cpu can handle up to 8GB/s, so clearly this is not the poblem.

Is this sequential write ? Meaning you are copying just 1 large file, if so that is pretty low. Not much you can do about it, some of these SATA SSDs are pretty terrible and prebuilds go for the bottom of the barrel.

The problem is that you bought one of Pichau's prebuilts. Using a SATA SSD instead of an NVMe model saves them a few bucks and helps them shift stock that no one else is willing to buy. That said, these speeds are about "normal" for this super low end SSD. 550 MB/s reads is about as fast as the SATA connection can manage, but the NVMe version of that same drive will read at around 1800 MB/s. Same for writing, the 150 to 180 MB/s sequential writes you get for it is normal, but the NVMe version will write at around 1 GB/s, and it's still one of the slowest NVMe drives around.

Unrelated to your problem but in your situation, my advice for you to get the best out of your investment is to double check the list of mistakes and cost cutting measures that this shop has been guilty of doing in the past: such as using only one memory stick in the build or installing two in the incorrect slots, making sure that all cables are connected in the right places, that everything is well seated, etc.

i did not complete the full test, but the test itself is for just one archive. i see the speeds in use when downloading, as im on gigabit ethernet, i see speeeds to 100MB/s, this literally makes the ssd at his limit. sometimes the computer stays unusable because of the insanely high repsonse times (4000ms).

i did not know about this one, afterall is my first time buying an computer pratically. the first i buyed an i5 3470, but instead it came with an i5 2400 i think? i dont remember. i bought from mercado livre, and we decided to move to pichau to seek an computer that comes with the build that we buyed.
also, dont buy from "setup ninja", the computer was fake.
i did not install an HDD or checked the cable because seems like opneing it avoids warranty to my knowledge. but soon enough i will buy an KINGSTON 480GB ssd.

Clearly! i will post after this match.

certanly strange the low velocity, very low at the end of the reading test. for the writing, strangely but the gap between those 122MB to 14, i didt have an surprise here. i was running an game, but the memory allocation was not even touching. (yes i use allocation, but i limit for 2.4gb.) the allocation probably didt affect this because it was not even using the disk before the test started.

Because it's as bad as that drive you have. You should get an NVMe model if your motherboard supports it
UNFORTUNATELY, this motherboard actually dont supports NVMe, but the gaming supports.
thats sad, as i expected the gaming one.
i dont need any hyper velocity, 15GB second. i just want anything better than an harddrive. just for getting an example here:

my first pc, had an ssd. i was happy, but, i really didt care much i just wanted to see if the computer has enough horsepower to play at least league of legends, or Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. i was playing on a i5 8250u, but its harddisk, just gave me headache, i cant open crystal disk info and it cant do better than that(always busy). still, for installing windows was very faster. so, if exists an ssd that works like intended, i would like to know. probably one that, can do better or like an harddrive without making the system unoperable when downloading an archive on the internet at 40MB/s.
honestly i expected more from kingston and western digital, i have an ol'kingston that would work till today before my computer burned it. 12years of operation. and an WDC ide that was used as main drive, it is actually in better conditions than many drives in this home. (except for other WDC and some exclusive seagate hdd.)

Strange you should at least have 450MB/s for write. Is this the boot and also OS drive?

yes, its the only disk on the system. its with allocation enabled, but i limited for reasons of... ssd.

That could be the reason of the low writes, windows is constantly busy using the SSD and also an AV installed can make this happen.
You can only get a good measurement if you boot from another drive, and then test this WD Green SSD from the drive you started with.

Then it will look completely different.

You should switch off windows defender, indexer, active programs and other AV to test, otherwise you will never get a clear result. And even then results will vary.

so, windows is my enemy, incoming news!
i will soon install an HDD on him. this would be better than that, i will let it as an secondary drive, at least will help me to cache programs into RAM with his 550MB/s reading.

Well, it can do better:

Maybe it's a lottery, maybe it's bad SATA drivers. Yours does have the latest firmware: https://support-en.wd.com/app/answe.../~/wd-green-sata-ssd-critical-firmware-update But that ship-made Brazilian brand - is cheap to the bone: https://mancer.com.br/drivers-e-softwares/

Who knows what other cheap components they use. This is one of those cases where you get what you pay for. Even tho, as far as i know - computer hardware is usually overpriced in most of South America.

To the OP, check Amazon or Newegg or the website of Kingston or WD and get a new drive. If you only want 480GB you could get a drive for about $30 and use that other one as a data drive. If you get a Seagate drive you can use the software to wipe that drive completely and reset it.

Even my old WD HDD is doing better then this in writing... If this still is going on tested apart, then it is either bad or written full.

Secure erase could also bring it back to life, but always leave some space on an SSD, never write it full.

like this meme: why mine does not look like that?
yes. some years ago, my mom bought an notebook. 8gb RAM, i5 8250u. costs 1.012,52$ (if this is wrong, in brazzilian it costs 5000brl.).this computer of around 1900 BRL can do better than that. im new to buying pcs so, i really didt know about mancer. i will probably, if im gonna buy an new one i could get 1TB of ssd instead of 480GB

i had an samsung that, got up to 200MB, unfortunately it was killed by my old PSU. i have another model waiting for be revived, i just need to change the logic board to have this beauty working again.
its not full, it has 125gb free, but i will remove the cities skylines 2, this game does not look good.

that is a bit... hard. for now im not gonna buy nothing because 1900BRL is like an big investiment of my family so, i will need to hold with this sandisk controller a bit. probably at the mid-end of the year this computer will be usable during downloads, or i just write windows 10 to the memory and use it till i turn the computer off. i will install the drivers, see compability and with enough hope i can get this to 200MB/S

*from the start, when no games were installed the ssd already has been slow. however somewhat this passed up the inspection of pichau.

Believe it or not, but an old Intel 64GB SSD from 2008 is doing better speed in write then your WD Green!

woah, i wish i had those speeds! if this would be the main drive, probably you system would be very faster than mine.

even if the reading is OK, some games still need to write at least soemthing, can be for cache or allocation. this will considerably slow the game loading. but, even some heavy games load very fast, im stunned! for example beamng drive. in the notebook i probably needed to wait more than 5 minutes to load an map. (bigger maps, especially the most gpu intensive was an torture,) there is one tough, that i would need to wait more than 8 minutes to load. cities skylines also did that.

but this computer, does an great job at least in loading games. those now loads in seconds (with an exception of cities skylines, much memory demands much allocation)

you can now play as luigi. MAN. this is almost as fast as my RAM, (or at least what my cpu supports). i cant get over 8GB/s because one of the cores of my cpu goes vroom. but man, 7GB/S? this is just insane.

the terabyte l,imit of this ssd must be high, because the velocity of writing of this is very insane.

There are now even PCIe 5.0 SSD available that goes over 10.000GB/s.

Wanna see the speed of al very old WD HDD? Don't laugh with me... But remember that this drive is only SATA 150GB/s, the first version...
