First play with this game today. I waited a bit for patches to catch up but still using 23.10.2 drivers for my RX 6800 XT.
Only an hour & a half done into it, reminds me a bit of the Outer Worlds.
Anyway playing with Ultra preset & FSA 3 is enabled by default with this @ 1440p
Here is what HWiNFO presents after the session. the 100% CPU usage at some stage during the game play on all 12 threads of my 7600X is a concern, but it is what it is. Ambients of 24C.
Also have a custom PBO tuning. I notice my power mate electricity consumption meter hanging around 430W avg, that's about 200W more than a modded Skyrim AE with 33+ mods does on avg for the whole system.

You might want to update to the latest AMD chipset drivers (new ones just came out recently) just grab it from AMD website, and update to latest GPU drivers, maybe also a repaste on that CPU... I am not an expert on the Ryzen 7600x, but that seems really hot 89 Celsius. My 5600X3D never even broke 60 Celsius with a similar type cooler, and that thing is rocking x3d cache which historically is known to run hot. Maybe that is normal though since those chips auto boost high then downclock quickly, I never liked that design personally. meh, it is what it is.

edit: nm I just realized your ambient is 24 Celsius, that is pretty toasty. so yeah those temps make sense I guess. my CPU handles starfield fine though, so I don't know what the issue is for everyone else, or maybe its the x3d cache giving the boost, I don't know
The chipset drivers are already the latest & I will update the GPU driver again before 2nd play session. I only used the older driver cause' a mod for Skyrim AE for 144Hz was stable with it. But anyway, the 89C is a maximum during the session, not the avg for the time it was running the game. The extra work the GPU has to do now is inclining the card to dump more heat in the case & this has a ricochet affect throughout the system. The thing that has me a bit concerned as well is the temps on the RAM, I don't like it over 45C, however the clearance between the top of the GPU & the bottom side of the RAM is about a centre metre, that's just the way they design AM5 boards in general. When I was stress testing RAM OC with Memtest Pro, the cpu never went over 79C, even with similar ambient temps, so the GPU heat thing is problem spreading itself around the whole case.
Well, would you rather that it only used 1 thread like fo4, and previous games based on gamebryo engine, with awful performance to match ?

I for one deffo prefer that it hammers your cpu and gives you better performance... 30 fps limited by a single thread in the city center in fo4 sucked.

People should honestly just have adequate cooling to begin with.
That's not true about thread usage in FO4, in vanilla the game uses 3 threads avg & sometimes more depending on the game scene. The Creation engine is the same from Skyrim SE & that was avg 4 - 6 threads in vanilla form. I've seen up to 9 threads get used with a modded Skyrim AE & avg 6 threads all the time according to HWiNFO.

Correct, but fact of the matter is that it bottlenecks heavily on the primary renderthread, so while it uses more than 1 thread, it does so in a entirely meaningless manner.

Yes, FSR 3 is on Starfield now, however imo it broke the game. Crashes are more common now.

Took your advice & upgraded from 23.10.2 to 24.2.1 gpu drivers & also lowered ambients to 22C today. With a 3 hr session, the cpu at one point was maxxed out again on all 12 threads. But its temps about 8 degrees lower for max than yesterday. Perhaps the updated GPU drivers are more efficient & not dumping as much heat into the case? In game graphic settings are unchanged too. Either way, the system is smooth & no CTDs... yet. Did a mix of outdoor & indoor scenes.

I'd still recommend the latest chipset drivers too though, because those rarely get updated and they were just recently updated. So lots of optimizations there I expect.

Well it happened to me with frame generation turned on on 7900 XT, with frame generation off it didn't happen as much, but that is the whole point of FSR 3, so meh

Starfield is a huge let down. I think every AAA game of the last 5 years has been a major letdown lol

It's really indie devs who keep shocking me with innovation, artistic style, and fun factor. Thank God for indie devs.

Bugtesda's Midfield was a huge disappointment and the old engine made the game a loading simulator, Bethesda is RUINED, they must retire the old engine to a new one for elder scrolls 6, also fire the stupid writer

todd's laughing all the way to the bank, cause he know everyone will still buy elder scrolls vi no matter what, and he already made so much profit off Starfield, I don't think he actually cares anymore to be honest. can't say I blame him, if I could join the yacht club and say fk it all I would too

I agree, it's a bit of an emberrasment that they are still using gamebryo engine (they gave it a new name, but it's still gamebryo engine...)

At least it would be less of an issue with a new elder scrolls game vs a space game.

I mentioned already updated chipset drivers back in post #1,602 of this thread.

It's true, my bad cooling was more to blame. However, even with optimal cooling other people have shown their CPUs hitting 100% and hitting close to 90 degree C. The hilarious thing though is the game doesn't look that great to justify the high CPU load and temps. It looks like a better textured FO4.

It's amazing how unoptimized the game engine is when my character has entered into a 2D screen of one of the desktop computers in an outpost & my power meter is telling me my gaming rig is chewing up 420W just to do that!

well, today, fallout 4 still has BUGs of long loading times (using SSD sata3), also sometimes, stuck in lift forever (u can not get out from the lift, forever).

and they did rely heavily on Skyrim and Oblivion being fixed by modders too. honestly I think Bethesda is a very overrated company. I have also felt the elder scrolls lore was very weak, compared to other stories I have experienced anyway

Unofficial Fallout 4 patch is your friend here, hop over to nexus mods & look it up. In fact, check out the bugs mods list, plenty to pick from!

Currently, I really avoid using mods files (from nexus, especially), when playing Skyrim, Fallout 4, Cyberpunks 2077, all for the sake of collecting achievement awards from Steam PC.

except, if the mods its coming from creation club by bethesda.

+1, dude.....

But, i am still in love with all lore in TES series & Fallout saga, it has the great background story (although the main campaign storyline on TES 3-5 & fallout 3, NV, 4 its not that great).

Ok, I understand but you can get mod that stops achievements from being disabled while using mods. :)

glad you are having fun man, just don't turn on frame generation, it crashes like a mofo if you do, not just my experience but from many people I have heard
The thought of frame generation never enters my mind. I'm leaving the Ultra pre set as it is, it's working well for me on my rig.
It's also refreshing playing a game with this new game engine cause' from what I understand they will be using it in TES VI. My fps are anywhere from 60 -144 Hz depending on scenes with current drivers. The high CPU usage I saw in the early parts of the game have tapered down somewhat now, its typically around 75% peak & avg 40% across all 12 threads with my 7600X @ level 10.
I will admit thought, they have crammed some UI controls into too few keys, take the F key for example, you've only gotta hold it down for a fraction of a second too long & it thinks you want the next function applied.... I'll get use to it though, but its a challenge.

I could say a lot of negative stuff about TES, but lore isn't one of them:

imo quantity doesn't equate to quality. the best lore in a game I have ever played for example is FFXIV MMO and its expansions, mainly the last two expansions. It has a coherent main story throughout, and I just feel like TES is just all over the place, but it may just be I don't understand the story well.
