Whats your favourite Linux Distro?

Debian + xfce. Something about the default desktop layout made me fall in love with it. It did require some research to get Nvidia GPU, Steam, and Proton to work properly, but it was all documented on their wiki.

The other distros I tried had too much crap installed by default. Do I really need 3+ package managers? Why are there 3+ applications to control CPU power/idle states? They trip over each other, making the PC run like crap.

Nobara, MX Linux, and another I forget the name of, wouldn't let me select my SSD for installation. It wasn't listed in the install wizard.

PopOS for it simplicity and ease of use or EndeavourOS for that Arch feel and painless setup.

I love Debian because life is short. It's the perfect blend of non-disruptive, convenient, easy, reliable, and easy to find documentation & answers for.
In recent years I've noticed some oddities with for example how it approached the migration to systemd. I've also thought about how systems like Nix could be superior to trying to capture my system changes I will inevitably forget over time. But, it's just so trustworthy that there isn't a significant reason for me to ever move to anything else.

You know what's more important though? KDE. If I need a WM, KDE better be there because really there has never been a better environment ever. Not elsewhere on Linux, not on windows, and certainly not on macos which has among the worst UIs.

Also, even if I wasnt a Debian user, I'd still give a lot of love to the Debian community. Were it not for them, issues like the xz vulnerability would not have been discovered. They just are one of the biggest and best communities at keeping linux going.

Mint and KDE neon will be easier than Debian. Because Debian is not meant to be the most user-friendly desktop system.

Mint and KDE neon are the safest choice for new users.

There are a few other options easier than Debian.

Maybe even Calculate Linux + KDE Plasma is more user friendly than Debian for a newbee.

I use the command line for maintaining Calculate Linux but I see that you can update it via the GUI popups.

I guess a newbee can quickly learn Calculate Linux and do (almost) anything that you would do with Debian.

In terms of startup time Calculate Linux (XFS), Clear Linux and Devuan are the three fastest systems on new (very modern) hardware in my experience.

It's rewarding to learn Calculate even when it is slightly harder than Mint, KDE neon and mageia.

Becoming a big fan of Manjaro. I was trying Ubuntu 24.04, and it was not playing nicely with certain games in my Steam library. Jump over to Manjaro, and it's running those games well, without any special commands or Proton versions. Also, getting ROCm OpenCL going was as easy as a single command.

It is not about Linux, but more about the Desktop Environments (or Window Managers, if you like).

I began with Ubuntu 7.10 (or if you like, with SuSE Linux back in the 90s), which had Gnome 2. And I loved Gnome 2.

I "hate" Gnome 3 (or what is it called nowadays?), which is something that Microsoft would come up with. #barf
Gnome 3 NEEDS the Gnome Shell Extensions to make it user friendly. I can for the love of Tux not understand what people like about "vanilla" Gnome 3.

In other distros on my computers (Fedora, Manjaro, Linux Mint and LMDE6, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, Ubuntu, Debian), I mainly use Maté or Cinnamon. Both have a REAL start menu à la Windows 7/Vista/XP. (Hey, Microsoft!!!)

In the past I have used Xubuntu, Bunsenlabs (very nice distro) and PeppermintOS (which kept disconnecting me from my home network... weird).

If I want to be a bit more "exotic", I go Openbox or Fluxbox. A bit of a steep learning curve to change it to your own liking, but once you get to that, both are really nice (and fast).

Same reason I jumped to Manjaro. Mint did NOT play nice with Halo, and it's MESA version was over a year out of date with no clear implementation on how to fix it. When the Obliaf PPAs stopped updating on mint as often I jumped.

Manjaro works so much better for games, especially now that steamOS is arch based.

Probably not, given how outdated Ubuntu's graphical stack in general is.

Well, I'm not exactly a Linux enthusiast. However, the last distro I tested out of curiosity was Fedora, I liked seeing everything working smoothly as it should, without any major issues.

I haven't yet myself since I really don't have my gaming rig running for a long time since I completed Horizon Forbidden West.

I ran Arch Linux on my T480 and loved it but some bugs with intel ax210 where wifi speeds are really slow like 20/20Mbps was really annoying compared to Win10/11 Pro I get on average 500/70Mbps so I changed back so see if I can get this issue fixed.

I really enjoyed the 2 weeks with Arch and KDE Plasma so much I might try Archcraft - https://archcraft.io/

Did you run Wayland or X11? I heard and read several had issues with Wayland but I hope it's fixed.

I would love to go Linux again but the wifi speed with the ax210 needs to be fixed before I even think about because I do not want a shitty internet experience.

My gamer would properly just run Nobara if I would get myself to drop Windows.

If you place two SSDs in your system, you can still use both systems. (windows + Linux)
I have an EVO 850 500GB and a 980 PRO 500GB. The EVO 850 500GB runs Calculate Linux. The 980 PRO 500GB contains OpenBSD.
OpenBSD automatically boots every time I start the PC.
If I want to play a game on Steam or something else that OpenBSD is less good at, I press F9 during startup and then I can choose the EVO 850 500GB as the boot option.

I also think that most Linux systems don't have your problem with this network card. Can you test the following systems and tell me if they achieve full speed?
Clear Linux, PCLinuxOS, Calculate Linux, Void Linux (glibc), ALT Sisyphus, Devuan (testing branch) and Alpine Linux

I don't really like dual boot plus using uefi and Secure boot.

I read with the WiFi even trying a kernel firmware upgrade in Arch people still had problems.

None of the linux distros you list picks my interest.
