AFAIK, Windows installer expects to be run in EFI mode for NVMe installation (you don't need EFI BIOS to run it as that, example : Clover/DUET).

no, that s the whole point of the mod in this thread, the soft nvme controller that was ripped from the samsung 850 pro eeprom and adapted for motherboard bios allows you to boot on nvme drives without Clover/DUET, because the bios recognizes a virtual SCSI controller when he "sees" the drive in the pci express devices list.

that s why this mod is so great.

concerning the problem of Olegator, it s my whole fault, the file i sent yesterday wasnt modified correctly. it will work when he flashes with the one i sent this afternoon.

:) glad it worked in the end. sorry for the time spent checking all the other things, but in the end, not really time lost, it s a good thing you changed the adapter. send a crystalmark speedtest later on ok ? goodluck :)

oh and remember to check the 4k alignment after cloning, in reference of precedent posts about this matter lowering performances. you should be around 1600-1800MB/s

Hi, I tried this in Asus P6X58D Premium with Intel i7-980X with SSD - WD_Black SN850X (bootable), but didn't work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can someone help me ? Thanks a lot

Hello Quark
"trying this" is kind of vague.
what do you mean ?

if you flashed the bios found on page 1, did you first check if your drive was listed ?
did you edit the bios rom to make your drive match ?
what is your drive ID ?
etc

also, that s just me but, as i previously wrote, "i wont do it again" so if your drive is not in the list of drives originally added on your bios mod, you ll have to do it by yourself.

Hi
Ok I have same board .
I can assist you .First which version of windows you are running ? Did you see in your file explorer the storage partition of SSD - WD_Black SN850X ? If yes please write for you and us what you see in your Computer >Manage >device manager under a section >storage controller >NVME controller >right click >properties > drop down menu >Hardware ID .
Then post here .It should be something like : But not a same it will be your WD_Black SN850X hardware ID
In example : the following groups VEN 144D and DEV A80A reprezent : first group 144D vendor ID and respectively second group A80A Device ID for my hardware .
In your case will be other !
After you will go to check if your Hardware (the two groups ) is added in the modded bios which you downloaded from the first page .
But you need to read the post from page nr 16 of @kidgamepro which thanks to @İsmailTPC_Hastanesi guidance succeed with modifying the bios file .
Please read all the info in link and download the necessary files it will be easier for you to understand each step of the process .
We are here to help you when you request !

well you have a 5030 (SN850 WD Black) from 15B7 (western digital)

the bios that is available on page 1 does not contain this reference, and your disk will not be detected.

bios will need to be modified to include the reference of your drive.

it s ASUS bios so it s different tools to be used, i think catup can help. (i also think it could be good to make a quick and basic tutorial explaining what tool needs to be used, how to extract the rom, patch it with hex editor and reinject the rom in the bios.) (and explain clearly that people have to do that by themselves)

goodluck

Ok
You have 15B7 and 5030 . Those are your hardware Vendor ID and Device ID .
Now read as much as you can about the next steps from the experience of others
In the first page the steps are easier because the modded bios already contain some hardware added . If you already try with the bios file from first page and did not working it means that your hardware is not added . You have to add by yourself .
You know that this kind of operation it is risky and bad result is possible . You need to be aware about all the steps .
The developer @İsmailTPC_Hastanesi of this mod test all modification before posting and open for us the door for doing it for our hardware.
For me was hard too . Please believe me that I read about two -three weeks all related info about this process .I can't tell you that I understand 100% but at list make all steps correctly .
On short the bios file contain small part of firmware need to start the hardware necessary on bios post .
In our motherboard case for such NVME SSD we need to add this firmware .

can you sum up a quick "how to mmtool" when you ll have some time ? any trap to avoid, stuff to be careful about, etc ? i guess it must be similar method than CBROM but just in case :) thanks.

Ok
I will try !!!

Ok there is a small aspects : the name of the drive is not show like WD_Black SN850X in bios is [ IDE: NVME (4:0.0:1)]
the speed is around 800-900 MB/s
Maybe someone know if it is Ok or what cause this ?
For speed maybe QuarkPT should check 4k alignment especially if he's system is cloned !!!

speed test is done with crystal mark ? if yes, 800-900 is half what you should expect. basically those drives can go up to 3500 or 7000MB/s. the limit is the pci express bus of those old motherboards that caps around 1800MB/s if you dont use an adapter with a switch (ASM2824, 150€ minimum)

so that s half of what it should be, if the disk benchmark is a good one.

if it s a copy speed under windows explorer, get crystal disk mark and test again.

Well can you make a speed test with AS-SSD-Benchmark and post the result here ? You can download from internet or attached one .It is portable .
Please tell me if your system is cloned from other hard drive or is fresh install

i didnt see the screenshot earlier. that s weird, seems to be hard capped.

you should check in device manager, the PCI Length information.
In case you see "2" maybe go in energy saver configuration in windows, and check if there is no energy saving applied to PCIExpress performance. could be an idea. Or it is a shared PCIe bus, or it is not connected to a 16x / 8x, etc.

fastest answer is to check this :

hello

zero intel motherboard on the page 1 list, sorry

edit :

to be more clear, 2 situations

1) your motherboard is in the list, and your nvme is not in the list : you can try to mod the bios to add your nvme
2) your motherboard is NOT in the list, and then, it s a bigger process, and personnally, i cannot help because i dont know what has to be done
2b) Intel motherboards are usually not good for modding

Thank you for responding, I was researching the topic, there is 1 version but it is in BETA, in fact the same person who created the initial post but he says on his channel that it is very risky to apply the mod to genuine Intel motherboards, therefore I decided not to do it. nothing and use SATAS SSD normally
