Given AsSus's recent trend of making everything more expensive than it should/has to be just because they can, then yea, $1-1.2k sounds about right, at least at launch day anyways.... but when nobody buys them for that, then the street prices will hopefully fall downwards by ~$200, which is still too much but a little closer to reality anyways

Honestly it'll cost but I think it will be around 599-699. The top model cost 799 usd and this would/should be the 3rd in the tier hierarchy.

Edit: I was just told the price will be $749.

My sentiments exactly. Digging up some more info. This actually should be the 4th in hierarchy. There's the BE98 PRO, BE98(not sure of the differences between these 2 but both should be BE30000), the BE25000(another quad band router like the prior 2) and this router which is BE19000(tri band).
Learning this leads me to believe asus is getting out of hand if this not even top 3. I want to retire my gt ax11000 but I don't have any spare limbs to give away.

Edit: BE98PRO has 2 6ghz band, BE98 reduces 1 6ghz band to 5ghz.

I bought an ASUS router about 3 or 4 years ago, AX3000 or something like that. I had to schedule a reboot on it once a day so that my internet didn't just stop working for no apparent reason. I also found that it typically restrained my wired internet speeds to about 375-400MBps. I was paying for 400 at the time so I didn't think much of it. After switching to PfSense, I started getting 480+ MBps, same connection, etc...

Yeah, that model was using a crappy tri-core Cortex-A7 SoC, not a product I would've bought.
I have three different models from them, as I got two in Taiwan a while back and a different one since moving back to Sweden and none of them are having any issues.
Admittedly I had to RMA the cheapest one, but I got a brand new replacement.

I bought what looked like a reasonable router at a reasonable price. It was a POS when I couldn't really afford to replace it. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. I gave it to one of my brothers, and the newer firmware revisions made it reasonable. He now reboots it once a while. Especially in light of recent events, ASUS is on my do not buy list.

However, routers have also evolved to become very complex devices, as people demand all kind of features that people have demanded and all of a sudden, the lower end devices are struggling. If you paid US$400 for an AX3000 router, you got ripped off as well.
Also, I'm not saying it should be like this, products should be working properly, but consumers are becoming beta testers on a regular basis, with features and functionality being added over time.

Yes, cheap routers used to be plenty, before people had internet speeds over a 100 Mbps, multiple wireless devices that could utilise the full speed of their routers, IoT trinkets and so on.
We live in a different world now that requires more powerful hardware in many instances.
I mean, at one point we used modems, very few people would consider using that for internet access today.
