Update: I didn't to a repad, temps were actually fine but I did do a "repaste" using some PTM7950, that is some great stuff. And the best part is I don't have to worry about repasting it ever again.

Oh, I'm not the OP of this thread this was the TUF version of the 4070 Ti for me.

Oh, I thought your card was a ProArt too. I guess I misread. My bad. Same thing, though! That kind of pumpout should not be occurring in a card that is not even a year old yet. :D

I used MX-6 and day 2 it's still going well I do plan on buying PTM7950, where did you buy yours?

Yeah, the card is only 9 months old at this point, I was getting bad temps even on day 1 and gradually got worse over the months.

Yeah, the card is only 9 months old at this point, I was getting bad temps even on day 1 and gradually got worse over the months.
I bought mine off amazon I bought a 40mm x 40mm wide sheet and it was plenty. i actually have enough for 3 gpus left over.

Nah its true. People never worried about this shit before they had multiple sensors on the die, but rest assured they've been playing with >20C deltas all the time. For decades. The cards didn't break either.

Sure, within reasonable limits, but 15-20C range is very narrow. I'd bump that up to 25C, so you can worry less and prevent voiding warranty or just damaging your GPU in the process of repasting. Because every time you remove that shroud, you are creating wear on the hardware, no matter what. Lots of people have worse or the same issues after a repaste. So they do it again... We know the horror stories on TPU: overtightening, too little paste, too much, uneven mount pressure etc.

ALSO, you're saying 90C core and 100C hotspot is a GPU 'in a better place, just toasty', but its really not. It means the GPU is probably throttling on core temp alone. I'll take the 70C core / 100C hotspot version, thanks.

It turns out that for many Nvidia RTX 40-series vendors, the expense is being spared and cheap, poorly applied thermal paste is leading to scorching high hotspot temperatures and performance degradation over time.

That's the conclusion hardware tester Igor's Lab has come to after testing multiple GeForce RTX cards, analysing temperatures and performance, and discovering that the thermal paste used by many graphics card vendors is not only sub-standard for the job but is also poorly applied.

After reading all the posts, especially the "leave it as is" ones, I decided to share my experience with a 4070 TUF (bought Nov 12, 2023, which also suffers from what Igor's Lab pointed out with the TUF 4080's) In 6 months of use the temps reach 80c core and 100c hotspot, I would not wait for the RMA time and I changed the paste twice (Arctic MX6 and Noctua NH-1) but they only last 3 months and then rise again. I recently decided to use the PTM7950 and it finally stabilized at 60ish core and 70/75c hotspot. I have been working this way for a month and a half, so I hope it lasts more than 3 months. It should be noted that when the problem started I undervolt the card (925mv voltage curve in afterburner) and Zero Fan disabled with the FanControl app.
