Well like I was saying, making room for it got quite messy so the underneath area is in shambles. I did indeed put it on a platform to try and keep it level-ish, the problem was my sata power cable was so short I actually had to dismount my ssds (all 3 are daisy chained together) tape them together and hide them underneath the case just to barely make enough room for it to fit. On plus side... at least it works :p
Wow, even more ghetto than the eye can see

I figured this was a work in progress. Just trying to provide some helpful ideas if it stops being fun.

Might take a picture of how I have my optical drive mounted and put it in ghetto mods. Your solution is elegant in comparison. :toast:

I have a love hate relationship with the Aorus Master on one hand the Rev 1 version is the first board to die on me in over a decade and probably hundreds of boards I have owned and worked on, on the other hand it's been rock solid since they replaced it with a brand new Rev 1.1.

This new board ticked all my boxes, Wifi 7, 10+ usb, 2x gen 5 m.2 with 4 total without sharing lanes with the cpu. It's all I see myself needing for a while.

Otherwise Gigabyte on AM5 has been pretty painless for me I have multiple systems I have put together mainly with their B650 boards and they have all been rock solid and have given me slightly less issues than Asus I really wanted to go MSI this generation but ended up with an opportunity to basically get the board for free so it is what it is.

I still have to update my secondary system with something with more cores hopefully Intel's next socket is more exciting for me than the current one.

Ok so the 7800X3D lasted all of 5m in my PC but I also failed to upload decent photos because lack of time lol so here we go.

20240614_203724.jpg20240614_203736.jpg20240614_205530.jpg20240612_161846.jpg

This is what happens when people bet me dual CCD Vcache cpu's don't have issues anymore, newsbreak they do but I will say it has been much smoother than at launch and most my issues are from W11 not the CPU but it is what it is I guess.

I did originally have my gpu verticle mounted but it was such a PITA to get to the motherboard and hurt thermals a bit so it had to go.... Liked it though. Also as much as I like the Secrelabs casemount for my desk it is also a major PITA lol.....

That optical drive is going to underperform. At least it will get lots of airflow to stay cool. The rail mounted ones disappeared in favor of tiny low mass external because they were poorly vibration dampened. Which is also why they got removed from laptops which really couldn't handle them.

As a further completion of this I'd put something non-squishy underneat to fully float and level it. Then put something flat and heavy on top. Your whole case must buzz the way you have it just set at an angle.
So I've been having a hard time finding some kind of internal enclosure... what do you think of this?

I don't exactly want to run an ac and usb cable out of my case, but maybe its possible to pop off the back to continue to use sata, while giving it some support. Plus I think I might just buy a new dvd drive too, rather than using one made 2012. There's an asus one that I can buy locally for only $25.

EDIT: Oh damn $31 shipping. F that.

I think you may want to see how bad my ghetto mod is before asking advice.

I tried taking some photos last night that will be redone in better light, right now, and posted in ghetto mods.

Looking directly at your photo the location and orientation look great. Solid base panel you can use that is flat and level + air flow over the right parts. My feeling is still that a quick experiment floating it (sawed off wine corks/sorbothane/3 pieces of ???) and mass loading it (something heavy that applies equal force along the top) has better results than universal mounting solutions.

Personally I would stay away from manufactured solutions (kludges) other than purchasing a good quality modern era external drive. The optical drive thread on TPU is probably a better place to discuss this beyond a few comments. Short of it is OS/hardware don't work very well with legacy optical drives and are trying their best to remove optical entirely. BD especially. A good but very cheap slim DVD external drive will be rather dull but perform much better in all regards what you have or anything short of the $$$ ones imported from Japan that are about the only other thing remaining worth buying new. They go some ways beyond simple mechanical vibration and software solutions.

Awee man I hate those little dainty things with a 3 inch usb cord and 8x write speed. Thats the last thing I want, and the whole reason I did this instead. But fair enough I suppose we've gone far enough off topic already.

This piece of the equation has changed enough we should certainly move to the correct place if you have unresolved questions.

I was hinting that a Japanese market Pioneer external is stellar. Real world, a solid slim external hooked directly to internal mobo USB is surprisingly good. Refining what you have going on will work well too if you sort it out. Discs like to spin on a very level horizontal plane.

I tested some cinebench to test bare VRM on my A520 and put my finger on them, it feels slight tingling on my finger, so I put some tiny heatsink on them for a little bit of benefit. I bought this mobo just for giggles at first but when I used it I liked it, it have all the settings in the BIOS (minus CPU overclocking though LLC is strangely there) and memory overclock just as high on B450 mobo.

One heatsink on one VRM phase shown.

All heatsink installed plus on the VSOC MOSFET. Its not much but better than bare

Just doing some maintenance on this old retired mini-warhorse:
NUC7i7.jpg

Intel NUC7i7, the first i7 NUC. Was originally bought because freekin' Apple decided not to release Haswell quad core Mac Minis in late 2014, so I bought the last Ivy Bridge 2012 Quad (top left Mini under the speaker) for my video conversion needs and proceeded to start researching Hackintoshes and landed on the Broadwell i7 NUC. Used it as a Mac for a few years but got into gaming thru GOG and Minecraft and eventually wiped Mac OS and installed Windows. More NUCs and then built gaming PCs (4 under the desk plus a gaming Optiplex 9020). Apple did it to me, the fools. I suppose they don't seem to be doing too badly but their computers are just not for me any more.

This NUC5i7 is the victim of being Intel's first 14nm design as mine is likely afflicted with electromigration (yes it can happen even before 13/14th gen!). It was used at >95C at 3.4 GHz with Iris 6100 iGPU every day at full for at least a year and a half before I moved to a newer model and then it still got regular QuickSync video conversion use afterwards. Nowadays it will hard crash if it hits ~80C so RN it's limited to 2.5GHz until the OS updates (LOL last turned it on 3 years ago), and then I'll do some tests to find it's current limits and set the proper settings in BIOS to stay comfortably under those.

Love the green tubes! That GPU heatsink took an arrow to the side knee :D
That's a Morpheus II (aftermarket cooler) with a bracket with 2x 92mm fans, that is fine enough for it :D

Agree, nice to have cold cathode tubes like in the old days :rockout:

The GPU's stock cooler is this joke :D

I'd like to know how you got my "baby girl" as an avatar?

I need to upload the picture of our 8 week old golden. Looks just like the avatar you have. :peace:
Luckily I'm the only who has this AI chick as his wallpaper. And I do have this as my iPhone's wallpaper as well :)

I'm not overclocking so performance wise it's the same. It's more of a fail safe approach to protect the VRM MOSFET. Boost clock wise it stays at 4.5+GHz on all cores while gaming so I believe that's good.

Glue some pennies together, and then glue the stacks to your VRM

My newest build (not my main rig), in an Evolv X. I love this case. Cooling is a mismash of Bitspower, XSPC, Barrow and generic Amazon parts with EK tubing.
Specs:8600k/32GB C14 3200mhz/GTX1060/900p Optane all h20 cooled on the cheap. Its fun to tinker with and run experiments on, that's why I built it.

@jallenlabs, you're quite a dare-devil using the tubing without clamps :rockout:

I hear your concern. But, nah, the tubing is stiff and actually sized a tad smaller than the actual fittings. Super tight fit. Clamps are ugly, so I avoid them. This build has some cleaning up needed, so there is work to do, but it hasn't leaked yet... knock, knock.
