That 8600 GTS looks dope, loved when manufacturers had way more imagination what came to cooler designs instead of modern GPUs where almost all are from the same mold.

For it's time, absolutely, and like you say most cards look so samey, its just the size that changes.

Pity about the performance, but I do look back fondly on the 8600GT SLI setup I had in the day, I was posting about it here on TPU too, iirc I had them humming as fast or faster than the GTS.

Both photos were pre-recap. The BP6 had a broken SMD transistor near the power-on header, and the 694D Pro-AR had crappy caps used for a recap (OST RLX.). The VP6 is currently on hold as I have to replace the entire 2nd socket due to the lugs completely crumbling away. The BP6 got semi-polymodded, and the 694D Pro-AR got recapped with Rubycon MFZ as well as Panasonic FJ. There's a 2nd VP6 as well however that one will not POST or beep, despite being fully recapped thanks to Topcat @ BCN (he's the one whom I got the VP6s from, along with a pretty spartan Micron branded 486 mobo.)

That is the 1st board, with original caps. There's a 2nd one from that package that's been fully recapped which won't POST or beep at all.

Sony VIO PCV RXI all working fine. :)But no internet drivers for getting on line, and Snappy Drivers does not show any :(I would have thought a PC with only 256 of ram would be better suited to an earlier system.o_OAnd as i don,t have any Rambus Ram to upgrade ,i have got a 2.8 Pentium cpu i will give that a go a later date.Mike in that excellent video on the two Vio.s said he thought the boards looked very Asus his videos are very in formative getting into the PC.It is a shame its not more powerful though.:(I got everything working accept the DVD drive. The hardest thing was getting the drive caddy back in it was bent so had to force it in.What i don,t understand is the drive that is in there is in two partions C is only 30gb?o_OThe other is a lot bigger why?o_O2059 i have to bend it to get it in there.I love the way it is so esay to get stuff in and out of there eben though there is so little space. The motherboard was the easyes to put in a case the holes were right in place on other boards i have had to push it so it would fit.I am glad i got it to work best pound i have spent.

Never used a system with 256MB myself. Went straight from 160MB to 512MB back in the day.

Do you have a GeForce2 MX? Would be interesting to see how it scales as you have lot of old hardware, that was my first "gaming GPU" and I haven't had it in almost two decades anymore.

That was the one it came with i put the ATI 9600 XP .I think i will put it back in there. If i did put an older system on there i would not be able to get any drivers for it.And why is the partion with the system on it a lot smaller than the other one?I could even trt a SD card now that there is a floppy on there .I can put whatide in there to get the Sd card showing.
  • 1.7GHz Pentium 4 processor
  • 256MB of RDRAM as standard
  • ASUS-branded 32MB nVidia GeForce2 MX graphics card
  • Appealing design with a focus on style
  • Good ole Mike. with more retro PC,s :)

Booting without a cmos battery?...
I've had plenty of old boards that booted fine without the battery, it only maintained the correct date mostly.

Find a kit of 512MB RDIMMs(make sure you match the running specs, a few of us can point you in the right direction) and upgrade. That system will run soooo much better with 768MB of RAM.

Never had RDRAM either unless you count PS2 which uses it ;)
I did. Several, Pentium 3 and 4. RDRAM was expensive, but when properly utilized, VERY fast. Did great things for games.

BTW, This was a good video;
I love this channel!

IMO, Intel could have included lower cost L2 cache, say 64K. But even the cache-less Celerons could OC like a boss and make up for their shortcomings. However, the 300A was just a joy!

It is to expensive and a kit of two would only make 640mb with the two sticks i have to keep in there.
