Asus ProArt 4070Ti Super installed, case is on its side so the GPU power cable is kind of not where it normally hangs. I ordered a horizontal brace to hold it up so that little foot on the fan grill is kind of temporary.

The CPU air intake is from the rear through that duct I made from gutted fans, it works pretty well.

I'd like Noctua to release their next gen 14 cm fans at some point...

Other than the octopus cable adapter of doom looks awesome.

I got an antec support for mine and some noctua fan grill covers as well although I don't think the support is doing anything gpu was already almost perfectly level.

Yeah I really hate that cable adapter. I pushed really hard to get it in outside of the case before I put it in and could not get it to seat. I was pushing so hard on it I was worried I'd break it. Just didn't seem like it would click in the final bit...

I settled for having a hair like gap on it, probably most would have just assumed it was all the way in, I wasn't entirely sure but it was barely a noticable gap, it just didn't seem like it would click in.

I ran it for an hour just trying to get the system to not crash in windows, it required a motherboard bios update, driver wipe, driver reinstall, resizable BAR turned off, one of those things fixed it. So that took about an hour, it was mostly sitting idle or power was cycling rebooting it. When I got it stable I decided to tidy up the wiring because it was sitting open on its side. At this time I pushed on the plug again, it was slightly warm. I thought, maybe its from just case ambient temps (its near the exhaust of the VGA heat sink after all).

It went in the rest of the way. Felt the click. I haven't felt that kind of slight warmth on the plug since, even after gaming a few hours. I am likely never unplugging it from the octopus again, unless I get a different kind of adapter.

I could see this being a big problem for a 4090 that draws double the power this thing does.

Why not just do 2 or 3x 8 pins or something. The whole thing is dumb.

Been using a cablemod cable for 18 months with my 4090 no issues. I even broke the clip back in November and it worked fine till I replaced it recently lol.

You guys make me want to build a new computer..

I think this will be the final shot of this machine.. board, cpu and ram will be spread out to my other machines. AM4 has been such a treat to use. Smooth sailing the entire time. When I left Intel I thought this would have been a nightmare :)

Your machine is about as recent as mine, looks great.

Theres also this thing that might work with my Superflower Leadex 1000W SE Platinum
Or this dude

IDK, seems about as risky as using the Octopussy.

AM4 has been by far my favorite socket especially if you got in early.....

20240627_201936.jpg20240627_202002.jpg

This AM4 system has been such a pleasure to the point that I hate the idea of even updating it lol still doing everything I ask of it with ease. Honestly I do not give it enough praise on just how solid it has been since 2020.

I put in this EZ-DIYFAB brace thing. It seems like the sort of thing that might sag just as easily as the card itself but visually its an upgrade over the peg legproart with brace.jpg

I'll probably get that MODDIY white 90 degree 12VHPWR connector ...

It's easy to verify with a small level whether it's sagging or not the actual case and how much the pcie slot is braced with likely be the biggest determining factor. Even if the support doesn't help much with sagging it may help with stress on the pcie slot/memory/heatsink so it's probably still beneficial.

Yeah thats a good point, also this card is also pretty rigid and, while still a chonker, is lighter than many of the 4000s.

Black tubing would look good I think, though can't see if anythings growing inside.

De-dusting complete, looking good as the day one. Waiting for GTA6 requirements to see if an upgrade is needed.

Well since I've had a few upgrades or maybe more side grades I guess, I just thought I'd share and put some more pics of some kit up again...

Since a few extra bits of hardware came through from my mate in the US a little while ago, I thought I'd go a little overkill with some of my crunching machines, so I suppose we could go to them first....
So here we have two of my main crunchers, new stats in the pics below.....

20240422_204704.jpg 20240422_204708.jpg 20240422_205838.jpg 20240422_205902.jpg

So I went a little nuts and decided to double the RAM we had installed in the systems... A few times now, some of the crunching that we have been doing in WCG and Rosetta have been heavy so sometimes 32GB of RAM hasn't been enough or barely enough, so there we go, 64GB :) Hopefully that'll be enough for the 5900X's for the moment....
Now for a few other builds that have been helping out recently... It seems however that I need a bigger solar array considering with almost all of it on, I can pull close to 5kW with all this on and I think I could be missing a few watts from not having all the GPUs I need... I mean, maybe that's for another time.....

20240414_130639.jpg 20240414_130734.jpg 20240414_135526.jpg 20240414_213453.jpg 20240414_223039.jpg20240418_151359.jpg 20240418_151637.jpg 20240418_162837.jpg 20240418_163502.jpg20240420_160501.jpg

Well what I can say, is that the 5950X and the 7980XE are quite happy and being used a fair amount.. I've been trying to figure out what to setup with what hardware with these two, do I use the RTX 3080 with the 5950X or do I put it with the 7980XE? Anyone got any ideas??
Going to try and get something together for these, since I'm trying to get together all I have and can run for WCG, since I have all this stuff, I would like to put it too good use :)
I've even got my little Impact up and running now, with a 2700 or 2700X (I think its the later at the moment) but I'm considering a 5950X to go in there I think, maybe a 5900X depending on what I find or feel like at the time...

20240421_221035.jpg

I can say however, its a lot easier to get this thing running and worrying about the power usage compared to the Threadripper... Got it on air cooling at the moment, I thank @freeagent for the tip with these Thermalright coolers, they are damn good and so cheap for the cash, its scary..
Whilst I remember, I can not get the 7980XE to run at all with 64GB of RAM. The 32GB currently in it is fine but I'd have preferred 64GB in there. I think its down to the EVGA Dark board mostly but even with another X299 board, I'd need another 7980XE or one of the two newer models, I think I've enough really :) My mate in the US has one, can overclock it to 5GHz but it uses 900w at the wall to run the system.. I'm not sure its that efficient somehow
Speaking of temps, I'll get into the 7980XE another time, but that thing did run hot!!

Only a few more to go now... If you've got this far I'm amazed!! :D
Here's the girls machines before and after, basically the same specs, but now with more overkill :) These are my 3 girls machines..... All very similar specs :)

20240423_221717.jpg 20240423_224216.jpg 20240423_224235.jpg 20240423_233124.jpg 20240424_000156.jpg 20240424_002135.jpg 20240428_095431.jpg 20240428_103308.jpg20240428_184454.jpg 20240424_010019.jpg 20240424_010057.jpg

I guess I'm going for the new 32GB RAM spec which is obviously 64GB :D Even the Mrs's has a free upgrade but I think I might need to get the most from that CPU and RAM as I'm not sure its quite there... I'm hoping these all are fine for a while to come just needing to play Roblox or Plants Vs Zombies, I think the 3900X and 64GB RAM and the RTX 3070s they all have, should be OK :) I love getting these running with WCG and FAH :)

As I mentioned my little Impact board and setup, here we go :)

20240421_221035.jpg

I'm not sure what to do with this one... 5900X or 5950X for our WCG team?? It's also a great machine to use as its small for the rips I do for my films. I'm also very sure it'll be a great little gaming machine as well as my Threadripper hardly ever gets to be used for that.... Speaking of which....

20240421_202237.jpg 20240606_191030.jpg

There we are, now with a RAM upgrade of its own, had some G Skill Royal RAM bought and shipped over, I love this stuff! Mr Threadripper has 128GB of it now But I think it looks the part too, hopefully subtle :) It's a beast of a crunching machine with 64 threads, no overclock on this one at the moment. With the 3090 and 3970X running with WCG and FAH, I've seen it pulling at least 800w from the wall which I didn't think was too bad considering the CPU is 280w and the GPU is near 400w on their own. 2 pumps and 11 fans, its not overly noisy but I do wished I'd grab those PPC Noctua fans before now...

I think I'll finish this off tomorrow as its 1am here... I hope at least one person has enjoyed the pics! :) Take care everyone!!

Project DRS; a Dedicated Racing Setup (WIP)

The 'old' 8600k paired with the GTX 1080 will become my dedicated racing sim. Still more stuff to buy before I can drive like I stole it.
20240630_133042.jpg

To be combined with the Fanatec wheel & pedals, and the GT Omega setup. Not sure if I'll add the Valve Index.
The cpu cooler orientation is still on (internal) debate but for now it will do.

Some directed soft lighting and lower angle (so we can see the hardware) will help your photos. You can adjust after in post (photoshop or whatever you like to use).

I have the same motherboard in one of my secondary rigs, with a 8600k and 32GB 3200 and Optane drive. Custom cooled with dual rads, etc. etc. I have it at 4.8ghz 24/7 oc.

Updated to some GSkill Ripjaws black memory so I could put my bdie back in my workstation. I also cleaned up some of the cabling and removed the fill port. Added the 5inch LCD too, cuz why not?

Current state of affairs for my main rig. Disabled HT and clocked up another 100mhz all core. FPS in COD multiplayer improved maybe 5-7 fps. Running 1080p 250hz panels. This rigs getting long in the tooth. Can’t wait for a new platform to play with.

Waiting for GTA6 requirements to see if an upgrade is needed.

If all looks right, I will upgrade to Arrow Lake ultra 9 probably by the end of this year.
I still use my 2070 Super and wait for GTA6 PC 2026 for a GPU upgrade.

@jallenlabs Time for a server rack?
Thats on my radar. I have the router, storage server, 2.5gb switch, 1gbe switch, patch panel, etc. Just waiting for the right moment to pull the trigger.

My wife was just giving me a stern talking to after I sold and consolidated two months ago and once again I have four rigs running. I just can’t help myself. Here’s my space.

mmkay goodbye piss-colored old soft tubing.

edit: I know that there's few "wrinkles" via tube getting slightly too hot, but I did hours of leak testing. That pink stuff under the pump-res is for minimizing the resonance.
