Are you kidding? How do not understand the privacy implications?
You care. I care. You think an average Joe cares?
Apple does the same thing, Google does the same thing to a degree etc. This was always going to happen.

More and more everyday. As more people realize what companies are doing, they are getting wise to the problem. So yes.
Exactly, it ticks me off when it used to call 'My Computers' now it's just 'This PC' it pretty much shows you don't own your own PC anymore. I haven't used Windows 11 yet, but from the discussion the LTSC looks promising, if I ever wanted to upgrade. Thank God M$ don't release DirectX exclusive to newer Windows (not yet anyway) like they did with older Windows version. Pretty much why I stick to Windows is because I play games.

I use W11 and don't really have any complaints, except when setting up a system they force you to have a Microsoft account.

Is it really necessary to make MS account if I wanted to use W11?

Yesnt. It's required for all Windows 11 editions, except IOT (and maybe Enterprise?)

You can skip it if you run a command during the OOBE part of setup, but you're not given a local only account option otherwise.

Binding windows key/login and OS/settings and what not to an ms account, I find it an unnecessary security risk imo...

I think they have locked that down now also, at least according to a video on the tube, I haven't tried it.

No it isn't necessary to have an online account. For example Rufus has an option to get around that without any hassle.

EZ boy, now Linux fanboys will come and beat you bcuz "they can play some games too", so don't offense that little "pride" :D :D :D

Just installed the latest Update and read through the patch notes and now I have another axe to grind. The good 75% of changes are marked as "Gradual Rollout". Now okay, if we were talking about big feature updates like the Copilot nonsense - I get it. But the FIXES TO THE BASIC OS UTILITIES? What the actual hell MS? Like, for example, this Update apparently makes the new Task Manager less of a sluggish POS. But is it applied? I have no idea. One of the changes is the talked about previously RAM speed nomenclature one - MHz to MT/s. Is this on my PC yet? Nope. Are the other changes? No idea. This is just another nonsensical way that MS obfuscates what they are actually doing to your OS from the end-user and essentially makes the whole Windows Update process useless if they are just applying changes in the background whenever they deem it necessary. It also adds to the overall paranoia, since you have no idea when and if MS just decides to change some user-facing setting that you've set previously without any notice.

Just unplug the Ethernet cable. If wifi, temporarily turn it off. Windows will likely throw a little temper tantrum, but like the little tot who doesn't get the toy he wants, it will survive.

It is a simple fact that there are many users on local intranets (perhaps even stand-alone systems) where the organization simply does not allow normal Internet access for security reasons. Governments do this all the time. So do utility companies, financial institutions and more. This involves millions and millions of computers - in other words, a HUGE market Microsoft is not going to shut the door on.
