sorry about weird title but my topic is about - closed pc cases VS air open cases (ex. thermaltake core P series)

so...is it better to force air circuit towards a needed component across a closed case OR is it ok to let air freely flow and come from all sides on a test bench type of open case?

An open case usually works better as the only restriction to airflow is the CPU/GPU cooler itself.

We tend to build PCs inside a chassis to protect them from dust and other elements, nothing else. Case fans only exist to compensate for the airflow lost by enclosing your components inside a box.

Test bed is great but lacks the channeling of airflow that keeps SSDs or motherboard VRMs cool.

If your not moving heat away from your components your not effectively using your case to assist in cooling regardless of which type it is. Open cases at least provide less restriction to escaping heat than closed cases.

A case is just to keep all your components neatly in the box and protected from outside interference (physical). Therefore you must take more care how to route airflow compared to just having all components laying on your desk.

Just sayin'... I have a Core P chassis and I ended up ghetto rigging three fans to the front bars.

A larger case is in essecnce like a test bench, thermal soak is reduced while protecting the parts, unlike shoebox builds which are very limited in cooling capabilities.

I have large hands and prefer roomier cases.

Also if your case has a lot of obstructions you want intake fans with higher static pressure to overcome the obstructions.

Dual chamber cases are the go imo. Take a look at the affordable Antec P8 Constellation. Ever since I rebuilt my gaming rig in it, the thermals overall have been excellent, even in intense gaming scenarios & the RX 7900 ATX is not known to be a cool running card either! no undervolting, everything on stock.
Compared to my older MSI Sekira 100R case, the thermals on my M.2 drives, VRM & CPU have all decreased by between 5-10C even with same ambient temps in the room.
Of course a bunch of 140mm fans strategically placed in the case helps a lot. :)

I believe corsair or coolermaster started the chambered case designs.

Mine i have no need for the side panel fans lol.

Side mounted PSU with chamber guard & no front fans was something very new to me, but I can see the logic behind it.

It entirely depends on the case. Usually a good case is better for components that don't usually get fresh air.

i run a open case cruncher pro's are things are easy to get to looks good ect cons is there's is not a lot of air flow across the motherboard to cool my nvme's so behind the gpu i have a fan blowing cool air across the board.

thanks buddy . about every six months i clean the dust out the rads and once a year i change the distilled water its about due for a water change just to be on the safe side as distilled water picks up copper out the rads which makes it very conductive over time if i got a leak "touch wood ive never had one to date"

thanks bud ,thats just the water temp mate, its crunching @52c on the cpu and 32c on the gpu its cool and quiet with the 2 rads but thats norm for custom water cooled riggs.
for work i also have a P3.

Look at the techpowerup reviews for the streacom bc1 v2 and da6. one is a bench the other is an open frame chassis
Under load, they have the best or nearly the best cpu, m2 and chipset temps

In my experience, open bench is lower temps, however no protection from outside elements including dust. Case with fans, it becomes a hot air magnet but protection from outside elements and can keep dustless. This is even more so if the GPU is so large that it blocks air flow.

Electronic duster like a datavac. Takes all of 10 seconds every other week to stay dust free.
edit: im running a bc1 v2, bc1 mini v2 and a da6. Cleaner and better temps than any case i have ever had

im looking at Thermaltake core P1 as my first open case
i dont understand why less metal and plastic and glass are more expensive than a closed case ?!?!
the more fancy the bench, the more it costs for so little material - such as Streacom DA6 -or- the HYDRA mini o_O
i mean... between 10$ flimsy chinese DIY rigs and 200$ american steel, theres only closed cases!

impressive setup @xtreemchaos wow! double radiators and lcd screen for monitoring
that top blue [ 32.8 C ° ] is from cpu or gpu? both are water cooled - amazing o_O

one minor suggestion, use a aquacomputer highflow next for the flow meter, also has a temperature sensor , thus will replace that “ghetto” temperature readout.
