Well since I'm about to replace my LG OLED CX 48in with the C4 48in, let make a LG OLED PCMR Club :D

My CX has 10.5k hours on it, has some image retention but it's only noticeable with Red
20240711_091549.jpg

All the black box are the windows folders ICON (yellow), so I should probably use some other color folder ICONs
Just realized I should have used a black screen saver all these years, yet the screen barely has any image retention

just plugged in my new C4, 4K 144hz is pretty sweet

Congrats on the C4. No meme. :)

I happily use a B9 and have for years; the first (cheap) 4k120/HDMI 2.1 OLED but before absurd levels of tracking/microphones. Gsync but no Freesync (which is weird), but hey...VRR works, so whatever.

I haven't noticed any image-retention/burn-in (which may be due to lower brightness than some other models), but also only use it sporadically (for gaming) and haven't put my color meter on it since initial cal.

While I sometimes wish it were a tad brighter (I'd probably be happy with a C-series, let-alone a newer G-series), I can black out the room so it doesn't matter *that* much, and won't consider an upgrade until:

A. It completely breaks or shows some severe sign of wear (which it's been kicking for ~4-5 years without issue, so obviously could happen but hopefully won't until at least...)
B. 4k240hz and an upgrade for the B/C series to use the same panels as the G-series (because I'm a frugal chap, but also likes to have the latest/greatest in note-worthy features).

I've been very happy with LG over the years. My older 1080p IPS LCDs (some going on 15 years old) still live; and in that time went through two completely dead 4k Vizios before going back to LG for an OLED.

This being a LG and OLED thread I won't go on about the ever-increasing value of some (TCL/Hisense) LCDs on the market (which I have also liked/owned/used), and will only state if you're on the fence about it, and can afford it for your PC/HTPC, definitely go for it...especially if you can settle on a size for your viewing distance that doesn't break your budget.

I sit 6-7 feet from a 65'', but a 48'' (as a desktop monitor) must be grand if you can justify it. I personally can't (until prices and/or sizes come down), but am kind of envious of those that can (like OP)!

I have an 42" C2 which just got replaced by the new 32" gs95ue. It' a nice monitor and all that but man, I feel like the old C2 was just better. If not for the sheer size - which to me gets a bit tiresome - the sheer size of the monitor makes it feel brighter due to higher luminance, even though it hits lower nits.

Yeah, I'm not going down to 32in and sit like a shrimp to play online competitive games.

Resting my back and neck fully on my chair is the one thing I will not let go off.

Using the Game Optimizer Mode on my C4, the screen looks a bit dim, though I get used to it after 30 minutes already. My eyesights will thank me for this

Had my 42 C2 over 2 years now with no intention of upgrading yet, what an absolute banger of a display it is. Every kind of content pops so hard and it even makes for a very good large format work monitor when I WFH.

My CX is still splendid in its own right, but the C4 has 30% lower input latency and I kinda need it to play competitive games :D

I gave my old CX to my daughter, next time I upgrade the old screen will go to my wife :D

I find that smaller screens are better for competitive games though. It's really hard to keep track of everything on bigger screens. Even 32" is kind of big for that. Playing dota 2 on my 42", I can tell you the 32" feels more comfortable. But for single player games, oh well, the 42" is just on another level

I just checked my CX 55, it has 11,5k hours on time and using a red background I can't see any image retention,
I only use it for my PC.

This is similar to how I feel, and why it's been really difficult for me to justify upgrading from a 32''. I want to do it; I know I might like it over-all, but then I consider the games I play, look at the prices and continue to wait and ponder if it's truly a good idea. Glad to hear from someone that experienced the exact situation I keep contemplating. Perhaps I will wait it out and see what model emerges victorious wrt value regardless of 32-42'' over the next couple/few years.

Thanks for this incredibly pertinent (to me) perspective.

Have you pushed for higher mmr? The game gets much faster the higher you are and then the bigger screen is kinda a hindrance to keep track of everything

I pushed for top 1% MMR back when I was 10 years younger, I'm less competitive and way less toxic player now :p. I play PUBG everyday and only play some DOTA2 when TI is going on now

Anyone who happened to be using the OLED wrong like me all these years?

Basically setting the windows power profile to Maximum Performance will disable screen saver, which should help OLED lifespan alot. I now use a Black screen saver after 1min

So much this, and not only a smaller screen, but lower resolution too.

Every time I bumped up res in my life I got less competitive, especially above 1080p. There's simply more to look at. I think there's a sweet spot though, and it also applies per game. Overwatch for example is fine at high res, there's little detail anyway, stuff is cell shaded so easy to resolve. But a realistic-looking shooter is a whole other can of worms.

For isometric games though like Dota I kinda feel its the other way around, because higher res = more visibility. Similarly, ultrawides aren't bad either for that, or shooters, because again, wider FOV.

Interesting your CX shows active hours, mine doesn't. Anyway, still going strong even if I have recently spotted a bunch of dead pixels. Pretty obvious up-close, but can't see them from the regular viewing distance. There's a couple close to the right edge and like 3 or 4 in the lower left corner. So not positions you're likely to spot them anyway.
No reason to replace it, but when I eventually do, I'm not sure I need splurge for the C-series again.

Ultrawides yeah, I've used a super ultrawide 32:9 for dota and it was fine although there is very big distortion on the edges

I've had my C2 for a while and I'm happy. I have noticed that all but one of the HDMI ports don't receive a display out. Does anyone else have this issue?

Probably static killed that HDMI port?

Hello. My B9 55" has made me a very happy OLED owner, 5 years in...

I don't know the hours, but if I knew how to check I'd post them. A metric butt-ton is a safe assumption.

Just realized I should have used a black screen saver all these years
You'd do better with random images that wear it evenly. I did that with my own screenshots folder and its worked swell.

Killed three of four ports?
Three are on a display hub of sorts if it's like my B9 so possibly the 3 port internal HDMI hub died. The back one facing outwards is the one that works, yes?

Your TV might run a much earlier version of webOS but here's how to do it:

Press cog on the magic remote (or settings button, yours might also have the older model of the controller), Support > TV information. Should be under the area that has your serial number, TV model and mac address
