Hi, I'd like a recommendation for an AM5 mobo. Was gonna wait for Arrow Lake-S, but seeing all the drama with 13/14th gen, I don't think I'll trust Intel (despite being on intel cpus exclusively for the last 20+ years)
I will likely just pair it with a 7500f for now, enough for a 4070 Super, and upgrade the cpu to 9000x3d in the future.
I'd like to have at least 10xUSB on the back (got a lot of peripherial stuff), built-in wifi, at least 3x nvme (5.0 is not a must, could be 4.0 or even 3.0) and at least 6x SATA.
I'd like to keep it under or as close to 200eur as possible.
Got GB B650M DS3H for client built with 7600. Has VRM HS fat enough to put even 7800X 3D (IDC of OC) I think, but for R9 of course get some premium boards such as Asus Creator series or Aorus Master series. For budget built got GB A620 with 8500G. My main concern is Bios update without cpu just in case, good IO... back days I was M2 hunter and wanted mobos with more M2 slots the better but now I understand I love 1 or 2 drives at MAX. :) USB-C at the back is nice option, but anyway it's not very convenient so IDC anymore. Loved 4 RAM slots but build now 2x16 minimum anyway. Wifi is nice option but if there is good external antenna and not this budget crap 2 sticks from back they are pointless.

If you mainly are a AAA gamer, the only upgrade worth recommending at this point is the upcoming 5080/5070 series.

If you also play competitive gaming, upgrading to a faster CPU is essential for a smooth gameplay session. Having said that, if your gameplay is already smooth (your FPS output matches your monitor's max refresh rate and you've got no frametime issues in competitive titles) then you're all set and no need to upgrade anything just yet.
No MP, SP only. I might try Black Ops when it's on game pass but otherwise games with no SP story just bore me after 5-10 hours. Thanks for the feedback, I still want that AM5 system but at least I know it's not a pressing matter just yet.

I guess I'm late to the party, but when you do decide to upgrade, I think the ASUS Prime X670-P is the best choice. It has 9 type A/1 Type C USB on the rear IO. 3 M.2 slots with 1 gen 5 and 2 gen 4 and 6x SATA, all native from the chipset. It's generally price competitive with B650 boards.

Thanks, but the WiFi version is 260eur and it doesn't offer much more than b650 tomahawk wifi that's 195. There's pcie5 but audio is worse. I prefer to have wifi/audio/bluetooth/all usbs onboard, it's a cleaner solution.

I just came across this cheap AMD build with the 7500F CPU and the Jonsbo Z20 Chassis. Some of the parts are questionable if you plan to upgrade in the future, like the power supply and mother board.

But it is still a good build for some one that is tight on money but wants a new game rig.

I think the motherboard is the least questionable component in the whole rig. It's a nicely featured board for $110 with a VRM that happens to be slightly underpowered, but it will never see a dual CCD CPU anyway. He didn't mention it but the primary M.2 is gen 5.

The power supply and SSD scare me.

i7 10700 in the most CPU demanding games will limit your fps to something between 60-100 fps. More often closer to 100 than 60. Faster chip would also give you more even famerate distribution (frametime being not less important than framerate number), but I wouldn't bother until fps mentioned above and percieved smoothness satisfy you.

FWIW, I have the ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi. It's a decent motherboard but it did have some early teething pains for early adopters. A couple BIOS / UEFI updates in fixed all its issues near as I can tell. My board is paired with a RyZen 7950X. If I were doing it all again I wouldn't have an issue with buying the same motherboard. However, with the RyZen 9000 series poised for release I might consider buying a 9950X rather then a 7950X. Also X870E and X870 along with B850 (maybe even B840) could yield great new motherboard options.

I'd get this G.Skill kit but that's me. It has also an RGB version if you're into that.
I have similar G.Skill RAM:

G.Skill F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

It was a part of a Microcenter bundle that was free with the RyZen 7950X and ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi motherboard combo. The price on the DDR5 kit at the time (around release day) was about ~$269. USD. Now it's about ~$100 USD for the kit.

Identical performance, different aesthetics.

Aesthetics won't matter though, if they're offered free of charge. No two ways about that.

Yeah it’s tough to argue with free but the price was wildly inflated back then.

I rather like the aesthetics of both options as well as the RGB version. Still I tent to go with lower profile out of habit for better HSF clearance. Less of an issue when you’re going with an AIO cooler though.

Or single tower air coolers like Thermalright Burst Assassin 120, Scythe Mugen 6 and the like.

Although AIO(s)/Custom loops do look neater, I prefer air cooling.

Is this a good thing or bad? Since 7800X3D consumes the same power as the 7600.

I have the MSI Pro B650M-A Wifi, which is like a cheaper version of the Tomahawk, and I concur.

If you want no holds barred. this is the X670E E Strix from Asus. This has everything you listed and even has room for 5 M2 drives. For B650E you are not as featured for what you want as you can see from the 2nd pic. I will also add that with the X870 focused on USB 4.0 X670E is a great root as you have some serious CPU support to look forward to. I get the notion of a budget CPU but the 7900X3D is currently $278 US on Newegg.com. Regardless of the narrative I can promise you that you won't in anyway regret that chip at that price.

On the other hand, custom loop parts can also last years. I've only replaced the pump in the last 6 years and I broke that myself accidentally as I let that run dry

Wouldn't even have to do that on an air cooler.

The U12A series by Noctua especially is interesting (7 heatpipes on a single tower), basically performs like a dual tower (liquid cooling performance territory).
