I suppose if you were editing 8K or larger this would fit a workstation very well. Not seeing much use for it outside that since random performance isn't scaling. Is there any CPU overhead?

you would still be scouring fleabay for 2tb 960 pros, a gen5 tlc/qlc that runs out of slc cache in 30s then drops down to sata speeds is no good for video editing

Not quite pertinent, but I think it's interesting how it's the second adaptor of this kind that included "Rocket" in its name, or those of relevant products.

Considering how few of these are actually coming to the market, it's quite a...poverty of words for things that go fast.

I still have an old "hardware" 8-channel SATA 2 (yes 300Mbit) "RocketRAID" card. Have a look at their list of discontinued products, "Rocket" from memory is their largest product brand name/word, and one of the reasons why I am so surprised that this product is so damned expensive is because HighPoint has never been a high-end brand, but they certainly do continue to try.

Just installed the HighPoint Rocket R7608A with 8pcs of Crucial T705 in an AMD EPYC 9004 series computer system.
The settings of the CrystalDiskMark has been resetted to default after testing.

I guess you need hardware RAID, which justifies the cost of the R7608A. Those who don't have RAID as a requirement could achieve the same capacity and nearly the same performance with four 4TB SSDs and a passive adapter card.

I have installed two Gigabyte AORUS GEN5 AIC adaptors with 8 Crucial T705 GEN5 SSDs before. The performance of the software RAID from the Gigabyte AIC adaptors is extremely terrible, much worser than a single SSD.
I bought one R7608A to test the speed first. Would buy another R7608A for cross-sync to double the performance (110GB/s+).
The built-in Broadcom PEX89048 switch of the R7608A is not a toy and it plays a big role in data transfer.

Yes, I also see mentions of poor performance with software RAID. But W1zzard achieved excellent results using only Windows RAID, which he also confirmed in post #36.

I understand that the PEX chip is serious stuff, has management and telemetry built in etc. But its basic job is simple; it's just a switch. Epyc's eight x16 PCIe controllers should do the same simple job equally well. If they don't, I'd suspect there's a flaw either in hardware or software, or it may be consumer Windows (assuming you used 11) that can't handle those PCIe controllers properly.

Yup, My post in #53 has already indicated that the OS is "Windows 11 Pro for Workstations" and the AMD EPYC 9004 series hardware platform is just piece of cake for 32threads operation.
Please be reminded that it is hard to find hardware RAID for GEN5 SSDs in consumer market. Even the Broadcom's Tri-mode RAID supports only up to GEN4 SSDs.
The transfer rate of SupremeRAID from GRAID Technology could reach 260GB/s+ in Linux environment but only 80GB/s+ in Windows environment. In addition the price of SupremeRAID is extremely expensive unless you have a deep pocket.

Just cloned the boot partition to HighPoint RAID0 SSDs. Another HighPoint R7608A has been ordered and ready for delivery, hope the cross-sync setup is smooth and has an expected result in speed.

Is there significant CPU load at these extreme speeds? I assume (but ain't sure) that "T1" in CDM means that a single-threaded process is sending requests to transfer data. Did you try multiple threads?
