Since I 'upgraded' to HD 4850 I believe it now have enough grunt to play at 1600x1200 thus I summon my EIZO MX215 monitor. Compared to 15 inch TN panel I previously use, this is HUGE. And because its IPS colors were beautiful but....I just noticed now it have input lag. This is a medical grade monitor meant to look at MRI and CT scans so despite the color accuracy alas it's not meant for gaming. Still, it was breathtaking. You noticed its on it's side because its 4:5 display not 5:4 display but the monitor does comes with rotatable hinge. This also poses problems in some games. Oh well you can't have everything...

That Kalok Octagon hard drive is epic! I think those look so cool. I like SSDs and all for their swiftness but man, I love old clunky HDDs.

You have to download this driver:
Put it on a floppy disk and install it.

Playing around on my Radeon 9100, I kept getting freezes and brown striped screen before I disable AGP fast write, think ATi knows that why they out the setting inside the Catalyst control panel to disable it. I get it clocked to Radeon 8500 speeds too (default is 250/250 same as 8500LE, it was stuck at 260 before I disable fast write)

Overclock the CPU a bit and get over 11k. This is on Intel Desktop Board I use SetFSB to overclock in Windows.

Love that CPU and I have one myself, sucks though that I don't have a good board with 533FSB support.

I remember that I borrowed my friend's P4 524 back in 2008 and tested it with Asus P5B, ran fine at 4.3GHz :toast:

I have a BE6 but I don't know where to find the Rev. Do I need to look at the post screen because I don't see a Rev printed on the board.
I used to have this board too. I still have the BIOS updates for it in storage. Here is a picture from the update guide where to find the model and version.

1727787438402.png

I think the last updated BIOS was 07-31-2001. Also the BE6 had an onboard HPT66 controller.
If you need the flash files, flash program, or HTP66 drivers I can upload them somewhere for you.

Also the manual

The best part is you can hear the computer "thinking"
It was always a reassuring sound too, because if it ever stopped, you knew something might be wrong.. One of the things I miss about computing BITD.

How to get USB on 98?o_O
Did you use 98 or 98SE (Second Edition)? SE has builtin USB 2.0 support whereas the first edition did not.

They both have some USB support (even Windows 95 OSR 2.1 had some), but 98SE is better. However, neither of them support USB mass storage out of the box.

I thought i hered that 98 did not come with usb. drivers, thanks for that
It comes with USB support, but it doesn't have drivers for USB storage drives. Windows Me included those, though.

The original 98 sucked but SE was good. Waaay better than WinMe.

I loved WinME. It was very misunderstood.
Tried that for a week back in the day, went back to 98SE happily :D

Though from that era, I loved 2000 and that was stable as hell, everyone else used XP but I used 2k SP4 as long as software developers supported that.

I bought a 2006 MacBook Pro 15" A1150 almost a whole month ago now but just now got around to poking around at it. I am generally not a Mac person, however I got to interact with this generation of MacBook a few months ago and absolutely loved it, so I went out and bought one. In my classic fashion I bought the cheapest possible one I could find, paid $13 for it at eBay auction.

A little worse for wear. It was dirty and covered in tape residue, but the real issue is that its missing EVERY SINGLE SCREW that holds the bottom case together. Basically the thing just falls apart if you try and use it.

There are more photos attached, didn't want to spam any more as embeds. It seems to be fully functional except that the slot loading drive eats discs and just makes angry noises instead of ejecting it, although it did play the disc fine. I had to disassemble it to recover my poor CD. The display works but has a lot of blemishes and yellowing, and the top case is very scratched. The white background of the apple logo is peeling up from within the top case. The ram cover is also missing on the bottom, as is a battery.

I have ordered a screw kit to fix the main issue, but honestly I am trying to fix this up on a budget so the other things can wait, if I ever fix them at all.

I myself do prefer a Mac ,the thing i don,t like is that after seven years you can,t up date os :(I am now in that position :(At that point they say it is obsoleteo_OThere is a hack where you can get a newer os on it ,but you can have problems with it.I do like the M2 mac mini i don,t know weather there is no a m3 mac?I have a old Quad 405-2 from the 70,s and still get that parts for it and anything in the Quad range gong back to day one.And yet Apple don,t keep parts for something that is only seven years old?o_O
It weighs a ton o_OI am a Retro Hifi man to :)

I think that Apple does a good job of making good chassis but I've watched enough of Louis Rossmann's videos to know that I would never buy one brand-new. I only have a 2015 MacBook Air because I received it and $40 from a trade involving an Oculus Rift S.

Same here i have seen thous videos where people take stuff to him. Stuff that is just out of guarantee and say it needs this and that done to it.They take it to Louis and he fixes it in five minutes and does not charge the person who took it there.Mine was a few years old.I would have got the latest one at the time bur it old had a HDD drive o_OThis was just before the M1 mac mini came out.I wish i had waited and got that.I still have the lovely Thunderbolt display i just wish there was a Windows PC that comes with Thunderbolt.o_O
