i just wish there was a Windows PC that comes with Thunderbolt.o_O
A lot of higher-end laptops and desktops have Thunderbolt. My XPS 15 7590 has a Thunderbolt 3 port. You can also install a Thunderbolt PCIe controller card.

I still have the lovely Thunderbolt display i just wish there was a Windows PC that comes with Thunderbolt.
Thunderbolt 3 & 4 are pretty much available for every PC that comes with an USB4 port. It's part of the USB4 spec.

Thunderbolt 1 & 2 are basically Mac-only nowadays.

also. the thunderbolt PCI cards (like Asus) is only compatibles with certain (Asus) motherboards as far i know
You need a board with an electrical PCIe Gen3 x4 slot and a Thunderbolt header for such cards to work. These are also manufacturer specific, Asus cards only work in Asus boards, MSI cards in MSI boards, etc. Power delivery also varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, especially MSI's and ASRock's card don't come even close to the up to 100W the Thunderbolt spec allows.

The cost is also quite prohibitive. Where I live, these cards go for €70 to €100.

myself do prefer a Mac ,the thing i don,t like is that after seven years you can,t up date os :(I am now in that position :(At that point they say it is obsolete
Apple gives you about 6-7 years of lifespan on a Mac. The computers are good enough quality to usually still work well beyond that, so I agree it's a shame that's all the updates just end and then a lot of software, websites etc just stop working. I've worked in the repair industry and had people laugh at me when I told them their 2017 iMac is "vintage" and parts availability is very limited. But that's how they work.

Imo this is far more of an issue in machines with PPC or Apple M CPUs, because the Intel ones you can theoretically just slap Windows into. I could put Windows 10 onto this one and still have a fully supported, functional, and secure OS. Granted.... It's not going to run well with 512mb ram and a 60gb HDD. But because this is before Apple began to hate it's users, I can just upgrade that in a jiffy.

The chassis, that is. Some of their design choices regarding the hardware is very bad. They have designed bad screen ribbon cables that fail and flex connectors with the 50 V screen backlight power contact right next to the data contact, just to name a few.

*cough* butterfly keyboards *cough* :banghead:

I've seen so many die hard macOS fans losing it about that garbage and switching to Dells and Lenovos. It was worse than pretty much any other stupid shit Tim C(r)ook's Apple pulled.

I think that Apple does a good job of making good chassis but I've watched enough of Louis Rossmann's videos to know that I would never buy one brand-new. I only have a 2015 MacBook Air because I received it and $40 from a trade involving an Oculus Rift S.
Most of my issues with Macs comes with what they've done in the last decade or so. Deliberate design choices to thwart repair. Security measures so intrusive they cause actual owners to lose data more than they save it from attackers, etc.

It really used to be a lot better for repairability, upgradability etc. I like this generation of MacBook because the chassis is great and overall it's a great cosmetic/functional design. I especially love the design of the screen latches. They look very clean and yet still work perfectly unlike any of my HP laptops of this era, just for example. The keyboard is excellent and backlit, and the touchpad is actually tolerable and a good size, which is uncommon on machines of this era. It has a lot of IO (FULL SIZE DVI!), is decently repairable/upgradable, the major parts chosen by Apple are good etc. Its not perfect, the speakers and screen aren't great but not was most laptops at this point.

I really hate macos as a whole, and especially the useless versions supported on this device. But since it's Intel I can slap Windows on this and be done with it.

Oh I absolutely agree, I was just saying overall they tend to last the length of software support.

Butterfly keyboards feel terrible and are a horrible design. The backlights seem to die far more than on any other brand, often a cable or shorting issue. Old ones had bumpgate failures, logic board issues, etc.

I think as a whole the iMacs are the most reliable, but they also don't get moved dropped etc. the 3.5in HDDs they used in those till like 2020/2021 were disastrously slow drives when new and they like to die all the time, but it's an easy upgrade to solid state at least.

Its madness that something as new as 2017 is vintage o_O I did put Windows on here bit after a time it started having problems booting one to the other. I also put it on a external drive that to stated having problems .I also tried putting Lynx on here that was a big problem with there grub loader.256 internal drive is to small for windows and apple dual boot .I think i will try and get it on a external drive again i have quite a few Thunderbolt I don't need three with the same os on.

Had someone come in with an ibook g4 they wanted to recycle. Out of curiosity I press the power button. It boots up perfectly, has a fully charged working battery, crazy. There's always an element of luck in how long something will last, regardless of brand. Also how you treat it, that thing didn't have a scuff on it.
