For the older gamers here, what can I expect when I actually do have to start wearing reading glasses?

Is gaming immersion diminished with reading glasses? im only a couple of years away from needing some reading glasses ( I can tell )

just wondering what to actually expect when that day comes, it makes objects bigger, for the reading part, but won't that distort the immersion of the scene i am looking at? nearsighted is different than reading glasses

I got used to it quite alright, its not so much staring at a screen that becomes any different, its the real world in 3D where things change far more, or at least, more adaptation was required, for me.

But, we're humans, we adapt. Immersion isn't vision per say, its an emotional state. You're either immersed or you're not; it doesn't really matter much how you see things.

I am blind as a bat and for me presbyopia will only improve things. That being said, properly picked and fitted glasses/lenses are absolutely not distracting and the brain will quickly adapt to them so that you don’t notice. But note that I said PROPERLY. Please, when the time comes, do get an actual eye exam first, have an optometrist test everything and write you a prescription and then go to a well-regarded, licensed optician to get your glasses made and fitted.

Yup, I've been going back to my usual place for years now since I need new glasses every 2-3 years. 'damn thing aint cheap but what can I do right..'
While I can read w/o glasses up close like if I hold my phone or a magazine, etc in my hands but looking at the monitor from where I sit its already blurry and anything further than 1-2 meters I can't see shet.

I've got used to it by now to the point of not even noticing the glasses anymore and gaming is all the same.

Sounds like we are in the same boat my friend. I feel I am might be further along as pill bottles are no longer readable. I have to use the camera on my phone to see it or grab some cheap readers I got at Wallyworld. In the last 5 years I can tell the blurriness is much more pronounced and I can no longer see my TV clearly across my living room but can see well enough to see scores and the like on my massively large TV. LOL.

While I do use readers for work and reading paperwork, I have a hard time adapting when using them for gaming. Headache after around an hour at best so I still don't game with them. Just my .02

I would like to add that when I did wear them was for when I play Tarkov, when I sit close enough to the screen I can see just about every pixel it seems. I might have to just keep at it and eventually the headaches might subside but not there yet.

I got some last year, rarely use them, the more you do the more your eyes become used to having to rely on them, only on tiny instruction pamphlets or cooking instructions on the back of packaging will I rarely use them, using my phone/PC I have no issues with, aside from having to up the font size on my phone, that's my opinion and not neccessarily fact so you do what works for you

I am not sure how wearing reading glasses could diminish immersion in gaming because as far as I am aware most people with a monitor would be sat too far away from the screen for reading glasses to be very effective, I know that for me currently my distance eyesight is pretty good but at 64 I use reading glasses for reading and have an intermediate pair for my monitor.

If your at the point that you need to wear glasses of any type to clearly see what's on your your screen then wearing them improves the image quality therefore enhancing the gaming experience I would have thought? For many Presbyopia starts from about 40, I didn't need reading glasses until my Mid 50's so maybe I got lucky.

You adapt pretty quickly. Seeing things clearly is something your brain very much wants. I actually need them for distance as well as reading, so I use bifocals. The line is invisible. the only thing that took some getting used to initially (years ago) was remembering to tilt my head a little bit up or down so that I wasn't trying to watch TV or game on a monitor with the wrong half of the lenses.

You can expect to look cool af as long as you pick the right frame for your face shape! :D Seriously, try lots of them. It's like being able to wear cool shades anywhere but without going full Jack Nicholson. You can even get self-tinting lenses in various colours.
Just get birth control glasses

Been wearing glasses for a long time. Get the anti-glare feature. I get my optometrist to give me a regular all around prescription and a prescription for Computer Glasses. You can tell them how far you sit from the monitor and they can prescribe the perfect lenses. It doesn't have to be exact as there is a range of several inches either way. It's worth having a second pair for gaming to me.

This right here. While some simpler forms of anti-reflective coating already help a lot, anti-glare works wonders against any light projected on your eyes: screens, flashlights, vehicular high beams, you name it. It can get undeniably expensive, but IMHO it's a godsent.

Short sighted but do not need readers, my close vision is fine, just long distance not, and i have double vision, so have prisms in my specs.

51 and I wear progressives. I tell ya man, I held off getting progressives for many years because I thought bifocals and progressives were for old people and I just didn't feel that old yet but damn the man if they weren't one of the best things I've tried. The adjustment period was zero. It instantly worked perfectly. There is no difference in gaming other than making everything even more HD.

At 1.75x, I find using my reading glasses annoying (PC Only - 2.25x for books). B/4 that, no problems. Part of it might be due to my WQHD curved monitor though - I was so used to flat screens that I find it a bit annoying for anything but gaming (where it's awesome).

It also lets you turn down some settings (speaking as someone who has glasses/contacts but doesn't wear them while gaming). You won't notice the blur that you will acclimate to but you will notice the faster frame rates.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i always had glass when i was little ... nowadays (42) i don't need em anymore, technically since 20 yrs now... (or a bit more, since i did not use them during my army time, 20-21, since my right eye was literally my good eye, excellent accuracy during 300m and above shooting, i did not need the, hum ... peculiar glass they give us )

i still have a slight blur on distant things (specially for reading) but up-close no biggies ... if anything ... my eyesight got better since i started gaming
i tried some Gunnar blue light "shield" glasses and well i experience the effect in reverse o_O

well, if it degrade later, i won't say no to free AA  although gaming at 1620p i don't really need it :D

ive noticed a lot of younger folks are wearing more glasses then ever before being married to their phones. it screwed them over.

for me covid put massive emotional and mental stress on me. within 3 months I noticed my vision was going bad. I couldnt understand and thought not enough sleep or missing vitamins. I took massive amounts but it didnt change. I see double vision+some blue. so 1 looks like 11. I can read/align things by moving my head left to right 1 inch when reading. I dont care to goto an optometrist. I use reading glasses. +1.25
