In the nearest future to come, it's ecology that will be important, powerconsuption, i don't think this will let NV AMD sell double powered PCs to the entire world, since they already just made adjustements in efficiency (7800x3d, 4000) to their last hardware, not tsure they would have done it if there had not been ecology talkings all over the world informations, and that's just the beginning.

The hardware is 1% the problem, it's software that is dumb at every level, driver, games, OS, and others if any (even Steam Deck OS is dumb btw).
Nah, the ONLY and I do mean ONLY motivation to reduce power consumption is because they can then increase clocks to give you a smaller chip with the same performance.

That is how node shrinks basically work. Use less power for same task = reduce die size = improved payoff from a single wafer coming out of the fab. Additionally, the same die size of a chip can hold more transistors - so if you want to place more transistors, a single transistor can't be using the same power as before, things will go unmanageable fast.

This is proven by Nvidia simply releasing Ampere which was a perf/w clusterfck (*because of the node used!) and then reducing it vastly with Ada....but still giving 4090 a higher TDP. This was never and will never be about environment. That will only happen when we actually tax the environmental impact, which no single product right now really does, even despite CO2 emission rights trading. It will be proven once more by Blackwell, increasing the TDPs per tier of GPU once more.

I'll be giving W11 a shot in a VM soon. I have been actively ignoring it until now, but 24H2 seems like a good point to see what's the OS like. It's been out what, two years? Well, whatever. I'll need to move on at some point anyway, so I better start testing.

When people say Windows 11 needs to be debloated, what do they actually mean? Physically deleting some shit from the installation? Or just configuring some packages or whatever to disabled state? I used to do all kinds of weird stuff with Windows 7, but in the end figured it was nonsense, the results were questionable at best, but more likely breaking stuff instead, and aside from the configuration that's part of the unattended setup I have (which I have to check from top to bottom since there seem to be quite a few changes since Windows 10) I only run O&O's Shutup10 these days and that's it.
For me W11 debloated means no TPM2.0 requirement, no online account functionality, which also means no MS Store bullshit, gaming overlays, and whatever else. By cutting those ties you've basically got a system you kinda 'own' again without MS constantly stepping in to tell you its really nice to use feature A B or C that then only barely works.

IoT Enterprise LTSC has this setup.

Got a report that a new preview update fixes the file fiasco in 24H2. (That it fixes the bug that is present in build '1882 and '2033)

The build that fixes it, appears to be '2152.

Don't know if '2152 will be the official update build number or not for the November patch-Tuesday CU, though.

It's starting to look like the November patch-Tuesday, which will be on November 12th, will be the "mea culpa fix".

OTOH, I just saw this report:

24H2, reportedly causes the "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED" BSOD with Western Digital SSDs.

At this time, it's looking like it's HMB causing this BSOD issue.

I got the PC build in the other room of parts that I got during the early-coronavirus-pandemic, and Windows 11 24H2 is working super! I actually got it to fetch release-preview updates, as it solved a problem that wasn't solved during the October patch-Tuesday. The release-preview-channel, is pretty much like the normal channel with rapid-fire-updates.

24H2 feels snappy on AM4 Ryzen! Even though I only ran 24H2 on my Ryzen 7 3700X.

My W10 finally couldn't handle my "experiments" and now I'm about to test if W11 24H2 will run any better. Don't see me posting anything else here this month = it definitely runs stable enough.

Main troubles with 22H2 and 23H2:

• RAM instability.
• M$ Paint instability.
• Completely incorrect CPU usage information.
It was virtually impossible to add text to images. It just lived its own life and shut the fields down. It was intermittent and only happened in M$ Paint. 3rd party software worked just fine.

After ~6 hours of testing, I am fairly sure 24H2 works fine on my PC. No effin clue whatsoever as to why it does and older versions didn't.
There's a solution to this.
Enjoy.

There's a solution to this.
Please read the vocabulary. Dirty hacks and solutions have never been even remotely close to synonyms.
This is software made by a huge company that gets paid for each and every sold copy thereof. We, customers, deserve being treated the way we DO NOT FREAKING NEED 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE FOR BASIC TASKS.

WTF? There is no need for being so smarmy and aggressive about this kind of situation. If the built in Paint app is giving you problems, use something else. Paint Dot Net is exceptional. Quit your whining.

Stop the insults.
Stop the arguing/bickering.
Thread bans will be forthcoming if you cannot behave.
First, off this was said. And I support it.

You stated you were having a problem with Paint. You can't fix it, so I suggested something you can do and use that is similar, but better and most excellent alternative.

Just wanted to ask everyone’s opinion - is there even a valid usage for the Media Creation Tool these days? I ask since Rufus can download the image straight from MS as well and provides far more flexibility for the finalized boot media. I suppose the MCT is very straightforward and “foolproof” for the less tech inclined, but the difference doesn’t seem to be THAT massive. I am just experimenting with both currently to make some new install media for work and kind of got curious to fiddle around and use MCT that I haven’t touched since… gosh, OG 11 release when it was the least painful way of obtaining the RTM since the servers with the .iso were flacking out?

If you just want a vanilla Windows install ISO, MCT is good enough.

Otherwise, if you prefer making some adjustments, stick to Rufus

That's fun how it's difficult to just set custom ico to folders, i was searching for the one displaying thumnail as it reverts/uses to a yellow colored crappysh style, can't find the correct number :

First, Res Hack gives 3 to an icon that doesn't mlatch the number (it's the 4) i use in regedit (that works tho), so i assume there is an offset of 1, like if DLL index starts to 0 where extracted starts to 1.
But worst, the working 7 for USB Drives is far of the number i'd find in the extracted res, so how does it indexed those MS guys their file ?

Worst again, the 7 looks liek the one that could be used for folder displaying thumbnail, hell, unlucky me they managed to trouble me as unexpected.

EDIT:

Well, also some Context Menu entries have been made by asses (trous du cul), i think this guys capable to come shit in my street like all the dogs do (yes, my street is the rendez-vous for dogs shitting):

"autoplay" that's disabled is forced to be displayed as a annoying menu under the normal used open, so it's cluttered, there is no "eject" for HDD (since 10) and their tray is shitty as a dogshit, there is this unremovable forced "format drive", that's enough... i'll fire everybody.

I think there is something in their head that make them enjoy do things liek that, i think they ink that's cool bc it will bother everybody and so that they get better intheir hear shitting on us.

Not really. They've set up the website so you can download the ISO directly in a browser so the tool doesn't matter AFAIK.

I believe the MCT downloads a different image than what you get from a browser. The MCT lets you select the language variant I believe.

Didn't know that.

Look, they have different SHA-256 by lang (MS apparently uses 256 for their Win ISO)

Microsoft is claiming some improvements in the update process for 24H2

I spoke with Lenovo regarding update KB5044380 for Windows 11 since I had a customer with a X1 Carbon 12th gen where the webcam, fingerprint reader and more stopped working and I was told they had reports for roughly a week now with customers of Lenovo products experiencing problems because of this update.

Not a great start.

Loaded untouched 22H2 ISO onto a flash drive in 2022 which I continued using through yesterday. Is there reason to go 23H2 or better modern alternative to slowly debloating using multiple programs after install?

I am using the 24H2 iso from MS, seems pretty decent tbh. Nice and snappy, even with just a very mild system tune.
