Call of Duty Black Ops 6 comes with a highly entertaining single-player campaign that feels like a James Bond movie. Graphics are good, too, with very high production value. In our performance review, we'll look at the game's graphics quality, VRAM consumption, and how it runs across a range of contemporary graphics cards.

Thanks for the performance benchmark, crazy that the IW engine is the only one that seems well optimized for AMD hardware would be nice if more developers made the effort.

Not sure what the point of this performance is on tiny copy-paste 6v6 maps. Gone is 32 player MW2019 Ground War and the actual fun 24 player maps from BOCW. Everything is so tiny SMG filled short engagement there is no reason to even discuss this pathetic game.

I would say it's the other way around. It's one of the few engines that doesn't play well with Nvidia hardware. Modern Warfare 2 initially ran better on the 7900XTX than it did on the 4090 for example.

This benchmark is based on the campaign which oddly a lot of people still enjoy likely becuase it's very similar to 360/PS3 era SP games.

RDNA3 also sees decent gains over RDNA2 and older generations from both AMD and Nvidia seem to underperform.

Likely due to older generations not getting optimizations from my observations it seems like usually 2 generations of Nvidia cards and 1 generation of AMD cards with older generations getting less and less optimization which is to be expected. RDNA 1/2 already performed equal or outperformed equivalent Nvidia hardware in this engine.

I don't understand why there are Max settings benchmarked at 3 resolutions but no Medium, 1080p setting that is relevant for most people. (especially with such differences in VRAM usage).

This would be so much more useful to owners of lower end cards or some cards not on the list. It's not like one can download a demo and try it out. Those are far and few nowadays.

The "Image Quality Comparison" page shows the performance difference for various scenes with different quality presets. That's a good rule of thumb.

I don't think you can look at this like that. It is widely known that manufacturers optimize drivers to run better on more recent architectures, so it may just be that.

If you go and have a look at say 1660 Ti vs 1070 Ti, you would find that 1070 Ti was significantly faster in most games (sometimes 20%). Where in what can be compared today, the 1660 Ti will match most titles and sometimes win by a significant margin. The more recent architecture has gotten optimizations that the older one has not.

Or on AMD how we had Anernime Zone drivers that allowed unsupported cards to run newer games that otherwise wouldn't even load. Others went from slideshows to very playable.

Hard to say most game engines are heavily optimized for Nvidia which makes sense they own 70-80% of the market when you account for desktop/laptop. This games engine seems to really like infinity cache and gpus that are good at Async compute. Not a game developer though so we'd need to get Infinity ward/Treyarch to comment on why it runs so well on amd hardware which they never will.

How hot does your 7800x3d get when playing blops 6 multiplayer? I was seeing 83 celsius in gpu-z after a 1 hr session, 99% of the games I own don't even break 70 celsius though, so it was a bit of a shock to see this game get my temps so hot.

7800X3D runs a bit warm but sips power. It's likely only using 45-50W in a turd of a game like this.

An optimized title that doesn't need an $800+ card to hit 60 fps in 1080p? o_O What a welcome change!

I really like the detailed options for managing VRAM usage and power consumption. No need to be rendering 500+ fps in the menus, or to be rendering anything when the game is minimized.

Pascal is weak at DX12 and was from the start. When Turing released there were still many DX11 games where Pascal was competitive with Turing but nowadays there are few if any DX11 titles released, rendering Pascal weaker in newer titles. Turing and later simply has better hardware support for today's APIs.

This is why I hate brand loyalty and developer sponsorship. It gives the impression that a piece of hardware is faster than another when in reality, it's just the software that is optimized on the highest bidder's hardware.

You should be in the 60-65c range while gaming.

I don't break 60c with a 5800X3D plus 360 AIO while gaming.

COD installments are like fashion, they just recycle the good old styles from back when ad infinitum. Its not unsurprising to see the series return to old concepts, because they were fun.

After all this franchise suffers from content overload. How can you reinvent the same thing to begin with? They already went full ridiculous with the zombie mode and all that. Can't do much more other than recycle.

Wait, these NPCs and objects look like they were made in like 2009. How come this game really needs next-gen to run smoothly at 4K?
Ssshhh, leave the sheeple in their illusions  This looks absolutely mindblowing, dammit.
