Maybe saying ultra settings was a bit too much
Just a bit. Now 1080p Ultra? Sure, that's doable. 1440P Ultra, depending on the game, still doable. But 4k Ultra is out unless you have an RTX Titan, 3090/3090ti or 4080s/4080ti/4090. If you don't have one of those cards, sure 4k is doable, just not on Ultra. But then again, we don't need ultra settings to have great gaming experience.

all latest games i play with firefox 7-8 tabs open usage never gets close to 16gb. Mostly wanders around 12-14GB.
Ah, and a lot of games are like that. AAA titles that require beefy specs however can(easily) get into the 14GB to 18GB system RAM usage range. For systems I build that have GPU's with 12GB of VRAM or more, 24GB is the minimum with 32GB being the ideal sweetspot.

All I can say so far is that it's okay.

There are some scary moments in it that I didn't expect. I just wish it added a tiny bit more to the main story. I've never been much of a spin-off guy anyway.

I see an 8, but not a 9 to follow!? What is this!?

*sad noises*

Anyway, I'm starting Life is Strange Double Exposure. You weren't kidding about the demands.

The performance isn't my biggest qualm though; the ghosting from the anti-aliasing is! This is horrid, especially during moments where you're not walking around and when it's panning a conversation or something. I dropped it from cinematic to either low or high and it seems it might be improved, but I'm not sure yet (need to see more "cutscene"), so I'll experiment with it going forward. I'm open to suggestions on settings from those familiar with them otherwise.

There was also some aggressive blur in the (not so far) distance, and raising secondary resolution to 100% seems to have got rid of that. This does make it more performance demanding though.

But the game really does look great, and it keeps some of the same style the first one had. I'm just happy to be Max again (her voice is a bit of an adjustment but she is older), so I hope the story is good. I heard it's not as good as the first and I'm actually okay with that because the first would be hard to top, I just want it to be "not bad" and I heard mixed things about later chapters.

Now I want coffee...

It's not that long time ago when I played FF IX on PS4 ;)

I increased the secondary resolution to 100% immediately and played at 4K high. In some scenarios it felt totally like a diashow. Personally a total 5+/5 if you ask me, LiS2 is my least favourite and even that wasn't bad, just somewhat meh.

Here's the thing @Super Firm Tofu judging by the image this is a game with a non-binary character.
Much rather play this, than fake - not able to be identified - Dragon Age Veilguard mess.
Nobody is hating. We the Dragon Age lovers wanted Veilguard to succeed because we waited 8 years for this game. We are just sad.

Playing Days Gone again. This has become one of my top 5. It has a very good story (not excellent, but pretty good), great gameplay mechanics, beautiful vistas, good voice acting, and of course, the Horde mechanics. Despite 3 previous playthroughs (and 1 being NG+), I never realized that the challenges actually help in specific stats in the main game. I had tried one once, and it was super hard so I never went back. The other day I watched some videos of a YT creator who gives great tips for hordes and the challenges, as well as explaining what benefit each Challenge has in the game. Each of them also gives another patch for Deacon's leather jacket when you succeed at Bronze, silver or Gold. It has resulted in an even better game for me this time.

I've been glued to ff16 for quite a while but unfortunately.... I'm done. I did every single side quest and every single bounty. Now I have to move on :'(

So I'm trying out veilguard. Man that character creator was both impressive and frustrating. There's so many variables you can customize. But there's also no good presets. So it took me forever to get my character made. And then I accidentally reset it twice! ugh! Be careful on the following screens. I pressed customize when I was in backstory or something and for some reason it reset my appearance after 30 minutes of work.

But anyway... yeah I've played maybe an hour since then... haven't made up my mind yet... Possibly regretting going for mage. I think I did it for aesthetic reasons when normally I go for warrior as I feel more comfortable with a sword. Well at least I get a shortsword/dagger type side-arm as a mage so thats something I guess.

Days gone crew, let's go. I am starting my 4th game+. I grinded it out to get everything unlocked and boosted. Having it all from the get go is the reward for that hard work. I have no desire to start over fresh as a n00b again. I lol'd after the opening mission when we run back to the bike and Deek says "I need to get in shape", because I have max stamina already. Literal lifesaver to be able to spam dodge roll sometimes.

The horde missions in challenge mode are kicking my ass. Time to hit up the reddit sub and get some tips. At the infamous sawmill I have to be missing a tactical move that would allow me to get some freaker ears and buy better stuff. I end up running across roofs and eventually getting swarmed.

I am about 6 hours in now I think, have done about 6 missions, being a fan of the franchise I am not yet convinced this will become a Dragon Age game but so far aside from that I think it's pretty good, that could change of course, many die hard DA fans will probably never play this or not until it's heavily discounted and I get that totally but I do think there will be a lot of people over the next couple of years playing this game who have never played a DA game before ....... time will tell,

Ohhh and I met Morrigan a while back too :D I have a feeling she will play quite a sizeable role in this game, there is a fair bit I don't particularly like but there is more I do so far and the game is really well optimised for this stage in it's development, not a single glitch so far.

Well optimized it surely is. Especially on the cpu side. I cap at 60 but I can tell by how low my cpu's power draw is. And the frametime graph is flat, no stutters or anything like that encountered. Looks pretty nice too. I'd take this small but polished look over the open world but generic procedurally generated stuff any day. I don't mind open world, but it has to be done right. It can't just be miles and miles of nothing.

Still not sure on the whole though. I get why some people are complaining about the dialogue as it has a fair bit of modernness to it, but idk, doesn't seem that bad to me, so far anyway. We shall see.

Did you go for mage class by chance? If so.... hows that going for you?

EDIT: So I guess this is officially the first game I'm going to play with RT on, at least a little bit. I just played a section where somebody mentioned fog but I didn't see any. So I turned all rt settings on to see if thats why and it was. So I turned the ray tracing option down to 'selective' to see if that would be enough, and again it was. And also it really does enhance the lighting and atmosphere in, at least in the area I'm in now. I always found ray tracing made games look different but not necessarily better, but here I think it really does help. Weirdest thing is, it didn't even seem to increase my GPUs power draw. It did increase cpu power draw by 5 - 10 watts. But... I can live with that.

I lost interest in HZD. Perhaps the remaster will get the juices flowing.
I originally played the game on hard and I focused too much on weapon/mods/resources grind. I quickly got bored cause I wasn't following the story, just free roaming for hours to earn skills and find stuff. It got very repetitive after 30+ hours.
I started the remaster on easy mode, and it's a lot better to focus on the story.
